Hi there, Hair loss can be a side effect of some medications.Doxycycline in general does not cause hair loss as its common side effects. Hope you are doing well. Every person has some hair loss. Hair loss of about 50-100 per day is normal. Medical causes of hair loss are hormonal problems (low thyroid), seborrhea, alopecia areata, stressful illness. Other causes: genetic male/female pattern baldness, telogen effluvium.
I eat a very health diet and exercise 2-3 times a week and I'm only 30 years old. I'm convinced that the Doxycycline has caused my hair loss. Has your hair grown back now?
Hi, I have been experiencing hair loss for the past 3 months and im not sure why. A couple pf months before i started losing hair i was on doxycycline 50mg twice a day for about two months as well as metformin for pcos. I also had my hair chemically straightened with bio ionic retex system. Although i have had the smoothing treatment before and never experienced any hair loss. I have stopped both medications and no longer blow dry or straighten myhair as i used to do it everyday.
I have been taking the medication 5-6 weeks and for the past week or so I am noticying hair loss. (roughly double the normal amount of hair I would loose in a day.) My hair is noticably thinning. Could this be a side effect of the medication I am taking? Has anyone else experienced this? On a side note, my skin is now completely clear.
Specifically on the top where men experience male pattern baldness, but also a little on the sides. I was wondering if the antibiotics could be causing this thinning and hair loss and if this is permanent? Is there anything I can do to help my hair grow back? I have a good probiotic. (15 billion strains) I got from a vitamin shop and take a vitamin about three times a week. I eat a wide variety of foods and am pretty conscience about attempting to get enough water daily.
Another HUGE concern of mine is that I have suddenly undergone a sever sudden hair loss. I have developed a bit of bald spot and hair is coming out in the shower in clumps. And falls out regularly throughout the day.

One more major question I have for you is when does this get out of my system and when will the hair loss/ itchiness stop? Is this scarring(permanent) hair loss or will it grow back!??
If I hadn't been tested at IGeneX, I don't think I would ever have been diagnosed correctly. IGeneX found my Lyme and Bartonella. Hair loss and loss of libido are less common symptoms, but LLMDs (Lyme Literate Medical Doctors) are familiar with these symptoms, even if most "mainstream" doctors are not. Lyme likes connective tissue, and the thyroid is full of connective tissue. Many people with disseminated Lyme develop thyroid problems.
I used to wear it in a ponytail all the time, but when this happened I got it cut short. Around the same time as I noticed the hair loss, I was taking doxycycline for acne and had been using it for 2 years- one of my friends also used it for acne and noticed he had a lot of hair loss when he was taking it.
Hello, Thanks for posting your query. I can understand your concern for the hair loss. Although there are many causes of hair loss in men like stress, fungal infections, alopecia aereata, hormonal imbalance (overproduction of dihydrotestosterone and thyroid hormones irregularities),malnutrition, telogen effluvium and sebum plugs on skin, but important ones in your case are stress, weather change and telogen effluvium.
The results came back negative but he called in Doxycycline Hyclate 100 mg 2ice a day for 7 days to just be sure.I was only able to take 3 days as it got me sick. Metronidazole and doxycycline does not cause hair loss. I am not sure what the cause is.
My dad, both grandfathers, all of my uncles and cousins, and great grandfathers had or still have a full head of thick hair. I took doxycycline for acne a while back which thinned my hair a good amount. It never recovered or even began to. Then I started taking NO-zero extreme pre workout and my hair became noticeably thin to the point where you can see my scalp if you look hard enough. I stopped taking it and will never take preworkouts again.

However, she became extremely lethargic, loss of appetite, weight loss, and hair loss/skin lesions. She was then started on a two week dose of doxy followed by two weeks of zenaquin. she has lost over 6lbs and was only 35lbs to begin with. She was just put on another two weeks of zenaquin. Her blood tests revealed high WBC, low RBC, and low T4. It is now about two months from the start of her symptoms and she is still very sick with little improvement from the meds.
Probably about mid-February I noticed that my heart rate was quite fast. Then I started to get chest pains. Then the hair started to thin drastically (I'd gone off Yaz in mid-January, and know your hair can thin out after stopping bc, but I've gone of bc before, and this was way more drastic; I should note that I actually went off the Yaz because it was giving me heart palpitations, but those went away after stopping it).
I am also having some extreme fatigue issues, what appeared as a case of gout on my big toe, hair loss, digestive discomfort, and headaches. I am quite tall and slender, and have healthful eating habits, but find that I am ravenous within an hour of a hearty meal. I far out-eat my companions with no apparent weight gain. I am a good student at a prestigious university, but am having some trouble with focus and clear thinking.
I had so much anxiety that I was getting intense headaches, weird body sensations, and hair loss. Stress can do weird things.
9) Other medications I use are Propecia and minoxidil (Rogaine) for hair loss, ketoconazole (2% cream) for seborrheic dermatitis on my face, and Finacea (azelaic acid) for rosacea on my nose. I do not use any other prescriptions medications. I take multivitamins in the morning. 10) I do have seborrheic dermatitis on my face, so already I appear to be predisposed to fungus problems.
He also mentioned that he saw some blood work I had done in 2007 had a high white blood cell count and he wanted to test me again when I get done with the Doxycycline. He sturck me as being kind of at a loss for what this could be. He said he's treated over 100 cases of HPV and that this didn't look like anything he'd seen before. Because the bumps are all on my inner right thigh and none are on my penis and scrotem, he pretty much has ruled out the possiblity of it being HPV.
He told me that I had an infection of my hair follicles and prescribed Doxycycline. I took it for 10 days and all but an area behind the lower part of my right ear went away. I went back to him in December - when I couldn't take the itching any more and he perscribed Doxycycline again. And it appeared to almost go away - but the very itchy bumps are back in full force again and just in that area. It is driving me crazy.
The flesh is clearly exposed through the ends of his claws. He also has very thin and short hair which did not thicken up at all over the last severe winter and we are in Canada. He is not walked on cement or any other hard abrasive surface and the other Jack Russell in the family has all the same activities and has hard and long nails. We feel there is some kind of a deficiency which we need to supplement but do not know what.
however, I'm still very worried, for my rosacea, blepharitis, hair loss, and skin irritations (including inflamed hair follicles) are neither getting better nor coming to a state of remission. So my question is: Could the chlamydia infection have prompted any of the above-mentioned conditions? I'm a 23-year old female who's never had any health problems.
I had an ultrasound today, and the person who performed it said that it looked completely normal -- not even any inflammation. I am on finasteride for hair loss. I have been on it for 5 years or more without any significant side effects. I am 28. What is the treatment for chemical epididymitis? Thanks again.
So...I went to the doctor the other day because I have been experiencing hair loss, extreme unexplained weight loss (close to 12 pounds in 3 weeks), extreme fatigue, and swollen lymph nodes. She ran some blood tests and all she could come up with was that my potassium was very low. She put me on Doxycycline for the the lymph nodes (thinking I have an infection) and put me on potassium supplements. I am ALSO on Lortab 7.5 and Flexeril 10 for a herniated disc with fragmentation.
