Hello, It is possible that this was a regular break out of acne as doxycycline is the treatment for acne also and it is less likely for doxycycline to cause such a rash. In case of an allergic reaction, it can cause an itchy rash or itchy bumps/hives. Just keep you face clean by washing with a mild soap atleast twice a day. Pat it dry and do not rub it. Avoid picking or pressing the bumps. You can also use Benzoyl peroxide 5% lotion or gel once at bedtime.
I've been on doxycycline for 9 months (for my acne). I was very impressed with the results. Although lately, I've been having chronic headaches (pressure behind my eyes and by my forehead) for about a week now. Should I stop taking it immediatly?
was given a 1 week course of 2 100g tabs a day and 4 days after the course im still fealling the side effects itchy irritated eyes and random itches on the body with no rash and a uneasy stomach. does anyone know how long it stays in the system and how long ill feal like this for ? thank you !
Have not heard of a rash associated/side effect for treatment. I would follow up with your Dr as for some reason you have irritation or something.
I seem to be having a rash reaction to Doxycycline and have taken Benedryl...so far, no other symptoms after 10 hours. If I keep taking Doxy for the next 10 days, will my symptoms likely get worse or stay the same? With such a long half life, I'm likely to have this experience for several days anyway.
I took doxycycline the first week of march, after 3 days of taking the drug, i started experiencing an iching red rash, from the neck down , So I only took doxycycline for 5 days total. It has been 6 weeks since i have taken doxy,, It has not went away yet, I still have a rash, that iches insanely, I am absolutely miserable. I have been to GP 2 times, and dermatologist 1 time, I have taken predisone, allergy pills, and cortisone cream, Nothing seems to be working, No relief in sight.
However, these high doses can be difficult to tolerate. For example, doxycycline can be very effective but only if adequate blood levels are achieved either by high oral doses (300 to 600 mg daily) or by parenteral (IV) administration.
Hi Thanks for writing to the forum! Yes Doxycycline can cause both non specific rash—skin discoloration and also hives that itch. However if there is a history of unprotected sex, it would be wise to get a complete STD panel done. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Hello, Doxycycline may help but there are other antibiotics used more commonly to treat trichomoniasis which include metronidazole mainly. Doxycycline 100 mg 2-3 times a day for 10-14 days is taken usually. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
how long does the rash from doxycycline or other antibiotics last? What do you do for it?
My wife has had an allergic reaction to doxycycline. She took pills for about one week and then she noticed a few red spots on her body. She stoped taking the medicine but the spots continued to spread more and more for over a week now. Someplace they just grow into one big spot anymore and they start to be itchy. Doctors say to wait, another says to take steroids, which we are reluctant to take. What shall we do? Anybody seen or heard about similar cases?
And please stop using doxycycline, if it is triggering your allergic reactions. Consult your doctor for alternate antibiotics. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Is it OK if I have a few beers while I'm taking Doxycycline 100mg twice a day? I'm not getting wasted or anything, I just want to have a few with the guys this Friday. I had ehrlichiosis and am on day #6 of antibiotics...
I have been on the meds for 15 days and today I noticed a rash developing on the back of my right leg in the thigh area. I don't know if the rash was there before as I haven't noticed it. I don't know if it is getting better or worse until I monitor it for a couple of days! Dr. Just gave me the prescriptions and did not do a blood test, as I was in a rush and traveling around many countries. I am back home now and am in the process of going for tests, but I would like to know: 1.
I am taking doxycycline (antibiotic) , would chest pains be a side effect ?
Of course I was very afraid to have contracted HIV, but the doctors and HIV help center here told me that my fears are unfounded, arguing that the risk was too small. On day 7 after exposure I got doxycycline to take 200mg per day (which is quite much) for 14 days (which is quite long). The urethral smear, then, resulted negative for Chlamydia and Gono. Nevertheless, I was advised to complete my course.
They took a swab and looked at it under the microscope, came back with no yeast cells but a few white blood cells. She gave me a prescript for doxycycline 100mg 2 a day for 7 days for a bacterial infection. Finished them last Monday morning. The irritation had gotten better, but now there's a flat red rash that is peeling & sore. Is this a side effect of the medicine?
As a result, she can get neither a test for the condition nor a script for Doxy. Jenny is a widow in her sixties and her health is so poor she can no longer use a computer and struggles even to make a phone call. She is barely eating at all and has adverse reactions to all grains, most nuts and potatoes. peppers and tomatoes(nightshade family). The prospect of her having the strength to wage a campaign against NHS inadequacies is remote to say the least.
He tried topical herbal solutions for few weeks and that did not help. When he went for his usual annual physical, internal medicine doctor subscribed doxycycline with clindamycin. After full course face was completely clear. Since then it keeps coming back though, he took one full course again recently. We are worried that it will come back again. Also he tends to get pimples on face pretty often. Any suggestions will be really helpful.
My boyfriend has been taking doxycycline hyclate for about 3 months orignally for a rash he was getting on his eye lids and face. A month in he got what the doctors thought could be shingles and gave him a script for Valtrex. For the past 3 months his penins has been very sensitive and he couldnt last more then a few minutes during sex. After he added the Valtrex to the mix he cant even last a few minutes at all! We never had these problem before he started taking these medications.
I just ordered some doxycycline for a rash and I notice it is for pets. I have taken it in the past and it has worked. Is it safe even though it is for pets?
i have a penis rash after 6 weeks of sex with prostitute with condom (oral and vaginal). this rash look like prickly heat rash with one painless mild sore. my penis color also changed into to black color upto 1 inch. doctor prescribed me candida B cream and doxycycline (10 tabs). before complete these course all problems rectified. this problem because of STD? i have no other infections.
the facial redness and the rapid heart rate. The pimply rash for which you got doxycycline sounds like either rosacea or folliculitis. The latter diagnosis can be associated with heat and fever, but more often it is spontaneous and without a specific trigger. Oral antibiotics help, but the condition may recur, as it seems to have done in your case. My advice is to have your doctor re-evaluate the rash and see whether another course of antibiotics is indicated.
My GP put me on antibiotics for it. The first antibiotic (I don't recall the name of it) for 2 weeks and now doxycycline. I have taken the doxycycline for 7 weeks now. The antibiotics have not helped and I am not convinced that it is bacterial. Any suggestions you could offer would be very much appreciated.
I have recently had a recurrent chronic conjunctivitis in one eye that will not go away with several treatments..we did clear it for about 6 months with Tobradex, but the pressure in my eye elevated and that can't be used again. Could this be rosacea related? Also, does rosacea itch and burn at times? I am asking because I am concerned my red rashy face may be something else as the doctors have had me do all the autoimmune blood tests due to the chronic conjunctivitis.
I did not ever use the cortisone as I read that it was not a good treatment for the condition and could actually make it worse. I have taken the doxycycline for over a month with no listed side effects or problems. However, this past weekend I developed an intense itching on my legs and arms only. There is barely a visible rash...what is there appears to be tiny flesh colored bumps but you honestly have to strain to even see them. The itchicing has now spread to my chest.
What do you all think? I have no idea if I got bit, no rash, blah blah, but neuro symptoms for two years and a positive ELISA. I am ready for IV antibiotics and whatever else they want to throw at me. I'm game! They said the doxy wasn't strong enough and they would start some treatment plan tues, but I am taking the doxy just as a starter. Cant hurt, at least. I think my neuro will have a good handle on it AFTER I got them to take notice. I pray!
I then went to a general practitioner, who referred me to a urologist. The urologist did a urine culture. While I was waiting for results he prescribed doxycycline (twice daily) as a precaution. I completed the treatment eventhough the urine culture came back negative. I have had no sores, no discharge, only the rash? Does anyone have any idea what this could be? If it is just irritation or dermititus, does anyone know how to make this fricking rash go away!?
A mild soap or soap substitute, such as Dove or Cetaphil should be used for washing. Scrubbing should be avoided. Doxycycline is the preferred antibiotic for perioral dermatitis but minocycline can also be used. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
