Blood culture Culture of the drainage (fluid) from the infection Skin culture from the infected site Sputum culture Urine culture Treatment Draining the skin sore is often the only treatment needed for a local skin mrsa infection. This can be done at the doctor's office. More serious mrsa infections, especially HA-mrsa infections, are becoming increasingly difficult to treat.
It is shown to be susceptible to that antibiotic, but will only 4 days do for something as serious as mrsa?? I hope someone can help with this, and if anyone could tell me a better antibiotic choice, as well as length of prescription/dosage, it would be greatly appreciated. I want him to go to an infectious disease specialist, but it is hard to find a good doctor where he lives.
) Since steroids suppress immune system functions, I think that's completely backwards. They were prescribed for the mrsa. Have you ever heard of sterioids prescribed to help with mrsa treatment? Also, could you suggest some preventative mrsa treatments for me to look into so I may suggest one to our primary? Thanks.
I was given shot of Clindamyacin, initial DX was clinic acquired Staph infection / possibly mrsa. I was on Clindamyacin for 10 days. The condition improved a lot in that time but was not completely gone when I completed the antibiotics. April 6th the condition not only spread but was a lot worse. the doctor cultured one of the older lesions by removing the scab and sending it to the lab. He gave me another shot of clindamyacin and then a 5 day course of doxycycline and RX Muciporin.
I have suffered from chronic (and at times acute) sinus infections for over 15 years. I have had pseudomonas, mrsa, and enterobacter, as well as strep and other staph and even penicillium fungi. All were cultured from my sinuses. I've had 2 surgeries, and voila, the infections return. My entire body has now been affected (and I am unable to work). I have had 7 central IV lines for IV antibiotics, and am on antibiotics nearly every day.
If not he will be sending me to an ENT for scoping and a CT scan. I am in the Tampa, FL area for those who are asking.
One reason for the infection not showing any improvement after a 30 days course of antibiotic doxycycline is that the infection may be showing resistance to doxy and may be sensitive to some other antibiotic. For the same a repeat culture sensitivity of the discharge and a biopsy makes sense. Other than that few other possibilities also need to be evaluated.
Hello, Tetracyclines are the standard treatment for perioral dermatitis and you have been prescribed the correct treatment. Perioral dermatitis like acne is a chronic papulopustular and eczematous facial dermatitis. It mostly effects women and appear around the nose, mouth and eyes. Treatment consists of oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. A mild soap or soap substitute, such as Dove or Cetaphil should be used for washing. Scrubbing should be avoided.
My daughter just fought off a bout with it and it took about 3 days to find the right antibiotic. She ended up having to take doxycycline which is fortunately used for the less dificult strains to treat. mrsa is becoming pretty common anymore. She thinks she contracted it from the YMCA - working out and using a community excercise mat. Who would of thought.
I was treated twice with doxycycline (2 mos.) for the Lymes but the treatment did not work and the doctors suspected that I may not have Lupus but had Lymes the entire time. In July 2009, a year later, I was tested and the IGM Lymes test was again positive. The neurologist confirmed I have Lymes Disease but told me that it should have showed up on the IGG test and not the IGM test because of the length of time I have had Lymes. Now I have numerous questions. 1.
exactly 6 days ago i was tested and treated for chlamydia with doxycycline. i think i am now on my last pill for it but it still burns pretty bad to urinate. i did masturbate during treatment for the 6 day trail period of taking these pills. no sex or mess with anyone. could masturbating make you keep the infection or do the pills not really really work until a few days after treatment.
He prescribed doxycycline 2 times a day for two weeks. I am still in the process of finishing that medicine. So my questions are thus: 1. Can ureaplasma urealyticum cause rashes? What would cause such a rash? 2. I am also worried about herpes. In my panic (of course) of being diagnosed with an STD, I started paying attention, especially since the rash had moved up towards my anus and I had started feeling uncomfortable.
I also started taking doxycycline antibiotics that I had leftover for unrelated issue (acne on my face.) This is day 3 and my labia seems less red, however is still swollen, itchy, with a burning/tingling feeling. The weird thing is it is only the left labia. Any idea what this could be? I do plan a dr visit but not for a few days, and I'd like input in the meantime.
mrsa is a staph, and it can be transmitted sexually. All I could suggest is that your partners see their doctors for testing, and treatment if necessary.
Shampoo eyelashes several times/week (as often as necessary) with TheraTears SteriLid eyelid cleaner (available over the counter). 5. If you have facial rash/acne see a Dermatologist for treatment and especially to be sure you don't have Acne Rosecea which gets in the eyes and causes chalazia and blepharitis. 6. You may need to be oral tetracycline for 3-6 months. 7. You may need to use an antibiotic drop at bedtime or an ointment such as Bacitracin or Erythromycin. 8.
I recently took doxycycline hcl 100mg for 7days twice a day. A week after I was done with treatment I had the worst heartburn and abdominal pain in my life. The pain so strong that it woke my up in the middle of the night. The pain has been in my upper abdomen around where my ribs begin to join, and I had also some lower abdominal pain. Weirdly enough the onset took place after having a calzone and pizza.
The Lyme was only initially treated with 3 weeks of 250 2x daily doxycycline. It seems a little scant for late stage lyme. My life was never the same afterward.
Thank you for the information. I just got home from my second doctor appointment. She reviewed my initial appointment results & stated that a viral culture had come back negative & that she had run a HSV2 test which was a 1.94 . She seemed defensive of her positive findings. She reluctantly agree to re tested me using the HSV2 test and stated that she was unfamiliar with a "Bio kit" test and she claimed the WB test was specific for HIV only.
They tested the staph to be sensitive to doxycycline and intermediate with levaquin. I was on doxycycline for 30 days. Everything was going well and thought it was gone, but it came back PLUS I had really bad side effects (twitching, nausea, loss of sleep, etc.) During this time, had unprotected sex with girfriend. Now I'm on levaquin for 40 days. I've seen improvement, but I still feel pains in testicles, urethra, prostate swollen. This is a really difficult bug to get rid of.
I use a low dose of doxycycline antibiotic for cosmetic (acne) reasons and have done so since I was 17 and I'm now 26. In late June I had been feeling itchy around my abdomen with a slight rash for about a week or so and one night a spot popped up on the glans (head) of my penis, just a small single spot, slightly pinker than the appendage itself.
doxycycline is the first choice, explained below in the quote from ILADS. But sometimes a doctor will rx amoxycillin or Ceftin if it's summer and the patient shows an unwillingness to stay out of the sun or to take the simple precautions needed to protect from the sun while taking doxy. Doxy often (almost always) will give a sunburn to unprotected skin, even through windows.
Others here can speak in more detail, but if you have been ill for longer than a few weeks at most, taking only doxycycline may not be effective. Also, were you tested for other infections the same ticks often bring along with Lyme? If your doc did not give you hard copy of ALL the test results, whether positive or not, get copies of them for your own files, and let us know (if you want to) (1) what you were tested for and (2) what the results were and (3) what lab(s) ran the tests.
ciprofloxacin, nitrofurantoin, amoxicillin, doxycycline, azithronmycin, erythromycin. The last round 30 days on doxycycline Nov/dec 2007; then erythromycin 10 days beginning of March 2008. It was less than 3 weeks between the out break (this is with a bath and a shower each day). It seems to occur a couple of days before my period (but this is not always true). Help: Is there a dr that can see me (Northwest area) that can look at this thing and treat it.
She did 2 swabs of the broken blister -- one for a viral culture for herpes, and one for a bacterial culture for mrsa. She said that she cannot think of anything that would present this way, but she is going to "brush up" on her knowledge of possibilities and get back to me. She also is going to call her friend who is a dermatologist to ask her opinion.
Let me note that I am not one to go to a doctor. I have an unhealthy fear of medical treatment. All of these trips for medical intervention were acts of pure bravery and desperation. Luckily, I had a tick attach itself to me in June this year, and got prophylactic doxycycline. That may have made me feel the best of all the antibiotics, although I credit Levaquin for clearing up the infection in the flesh in my nose. doxycycline just made me feel healthy, and gave me endurance.
Indian (Lived in USA for almost all my life and now moved to Sydney for family) 31. Is there anything else you would to share of your disease? Still looking for the treatment.
Given that it's been a month since you were first diagnosed with RMSF, your docs may view you as being past the critical early days when things can go south very quickly. Maybe that's why they are relatively relaxed about the situation.
Both had to be lanced and packed with gauze. It did come back positive for mrsa. So then I get one, I did not go to the dr tho. Yes it hurts, but so far I can stand it. It started draining on its own some, and starting tomorrow I am going to try some home remedies on it. But now that I know what it is... how do I get this mrsa out of the house ?? I never touched her boils... we dont share razors or anything.... and also her b/f got a boil in his nose. So it is apperntly speading around..
The reason people get strep or staph infections is that the bacteria get through the naturally protective outer skin through small breaks, or the bacteria overgrows, or your immune system is weakened temporarily, or you have acquired a stronger strain (mrsa, for example, which about 1/4 of the population now has, and which doesn't cause problems except under the circumstances above). Viruses can also cause the problem.
i am 21 years old and i notied a small lump under my armpit , i havn`t realy been taking much notice off it untill yesterday when i cudn`t put my arm against my side without it hurting, i went to c the doctor today but he wasn`t very helpfull at all, just said it was a sweat gland that has grown to infection when i asked questions he just gave me yes and no answers, gave me doxycycline, to take for a week and sent me on my way, i have never had anything like this before and im realy scared.
