Avatar f tn The underlying copolymer formulation has been in use for over 20 years. It has no adverse effect on humans and it can be programmed to release a drug over several weeks to several months," says Dr Zeidner. "We plan to test the doxycycline formulation to develop different release kinetics and delivery methods. For example, a slow release patch could be used in conjunction with current recommended protection against ticks, such as repellents and personal tick checks.
Avatar f tn We were not given doxycycline because we had had symptoms for quite a while, and once Lyme burrows in, doxy often isn't terribly effective. However, Lyme often has companion infections that do respond to doxycycline, so it does have its place. There are other antibiotics that treat additional infections, so there are ways to deal with the whole mess. What really matters is THE DOC.
Avatar n tn I am always concerned about tick-borne diseases, because there are ticks that transmit Lyme Disease etc in my area. I found this website, I don't know if you will find your answer here or not. I hope it is helpful. http://www.plainfieldvet.com/petcare_anaplasmosis.asp For the Lyme positive test, you could ask that this be followed up with the Lyme Quant C6 test, which helps to monitor infection level (dormant to active) so treatment can be given before the onset of noticeable symptoms.
Avatar f tn You ask, "Is it possible for the symptoms to be due to my immune system over reacting from the doxycycline which I finished 2 weeks ago or is that something the docs like to assume?
Avatar n tn Do the bites from dog fleas can cause lyme disease to humans? We have two dogs at the house and we take them with us whenever we go camping. Should we be alarmed of them getting those lyme-causing ticks and transmit them to us?

Avatar f tn I am not medically trained, but to my knowledge it's possible 14 days of Doxycycline was not long enough to eradicate the infection. The tests for Lyme Disease are not 100% accurate. If you are having symptoms, you may want to see a physician who is knowledgable about Lyme Disease (referred to as a LLMD). If you google "Lyme Disease Association" and go to their website, I believe they have a referral function to locate a LLMD.
Avatar m tn My St. Bernard was diagnosed with Lyme Disease Monday evening. She was limping for a few days and then it stopped and came back. We gave her an aspirin and it made her very sick, so we took her to vet and the the vet did a blood test that came back positive for Lyme. He gave us Amoxacilin and a med to settle her stomach. My problem is this, She is limping much worse today then she was on Monday. She is eating but not as much previous to Lyme.
Avatar m tn My dr seems to think I have Lyme disease and began treatment since Aug 2013 for Lyme disease first treatment was 3 months and I began to feel better. The fatigue never left though :((. About amonth later began having more symptoms some similar as before and new ones(very debilitating ones). I was put back on antibiotics for 2 months with dbl the dosage as first treatment. Did not feel better some symptoms were not as severe but still present.
Avatar m tn You can go to -- ILADS [dot] org -- and click on the 'physician referral' button, in addition to any personal recommendations you may receive here. ILADS is the main voluntary group for MDs who treat Lyme and its co-infections in a more 'progressive' manner ... as in something more than a couple weeks of doxycycline regardless of symptoms and test results. Let us know how we can help -- we've all been where you are. You go!
Avatar f tn I feel better now but anyway I have been to neurologists in the USa and Argentina and EVERYTHING comes back normal (the results of different tests, I mean). Here in Buenos Aires I asked the neuro to test me for Lyme. They did a IFI method for detecting Antibodies and it came back normal (negative). I attend a clinic called FLENI, it is really good, great professionals, good tehcnology, etc..
Avatar m tn Thank you so much for your reply. The cat was extremely sick. Since it was a stray the vet just put the cat down and did not do any major examinations. She thought that maybe the cat had eaten poison and had been dying for a few days before we found it in our yard. I will check out the thread you supplied me. My son has been investigated very thoroughly and they cannot find anything in his lab work to account for the illness...
Avatar n tn You should look for a Lyme specialist or Neurologist who knows about Lyme Disease.
1691275 tn?1322327507 Sorry, my cutting and pasted submitted prematurely.... This is a fantastic article! I am sorry that you are sick, but I do love it when smart people have the same disease as me. :) I think you do a fantastic job proving your thesis that the geographical perception of where lyme disease exists is an unnecessary hinderance to a diagnosis. I was asked by every doctor I saw...."Have you been to Long Point?."...(the only place where Lyme exists in my province)...
Avatar f tn It is well recognized that some patients have various subjective complaints after treatment for Lyme disease [5–7]. In our experience as infectious disease clinicians, many (and perhaps most) patients with systemic infectious diseases complain of fatigue, musculoskeletal pain, and various body aches well after cure of their infection. However, such complaints are not an appropriate indication to continue or reinitiate therapy for an infection that is otherwise cured.
984138 tn?1359813073 doxycycline is what they treat you with for lyme right? Odd thing but my gyno called me in that medicine for a common thing probaly yeast infection... i just talked to the recpetionist not the actual doctor because it was very minor she said. But anywho should i take it? Obviously i should but should i take it when im a positive for lyme but have no LLMD yet and my ID just got back to work today so shes catching up with everyhting and havent looked at my results yet.
Avatar n tn I have lost my confidence in the doctor who originally prescribed it to me because he googled Lyme disease while I was in his office. I have had many antibiotics this year for other reasons and know they are dangerous...but I have extra Doxycycline in the cupboard that I can take. I called the doctor yesterday and he said to stop because I have had too much already. I am still taking them until I get find a second opinion.
Avatar f tn The scientists caution that the discovery does not suggest the presence of chronic disease, nor does it support extended use of antibiotics to treat Lyme disease in humans. Their findings were reported March 31 by the journal Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy." source: http://prohealth.com/library/showarticle.cfm?
Avatar f tn In your situation, I would find a different MD for a fresh look at your history and symptoms. Doxycycline works in the very earliest stages of Lyme, but even if you saw a recent tick/tickbite before you were started on Lythe meds, it's quite possible that you could have been bitten and gotten Lyme months or years before that: the ticks are so tiny that they can be impossible to see, esp. if on the scalp or other places where they just don't show up.
9258519 tn?1404468525 I am a 55 year old female who was tested negative for Lyme Disease in 2007. I, along with my son had been cutting back bracken in a horse field. My son came down with a rash on his leg typical of Lyme Disease and I had the same rash on my face. My son tested positive and was treated with antibiotics. I tested negative but I always knew I had, had Lyme Disease. I just thought back then that it was something that went away on its own.
Avatar m tn He has been on Doxycycline for a week now, even though his results for Lyme were negative. Is it normal to have negative results if you do have Lyme disease? Is it normal for a fever to last for weeks. When can he expect to start feeling better? Any info or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn He also had shaking, muscle spasms. She took him to the vet and he was positive for lyme disease. He is on Doxycycline for 30 days, then will retest for the lyme. She said he looks and seems to feel terrible.... vet gave her pain pills for him too. Interesting..... people get brushed off, ..... At least the poor animals who have no voice get treated!! Best wishes and healing to all!
Avatar f tn I have been suffering from almost every symptom listed for Lyme Disease since being diagosed in 2007. Most recently I have had seizures and cognitive problems causing problems at work. Does anyone have any information regarding preferred treatment other than antibiotics and pills for the symptoms. I rarely have a day withont pain. Help!
Avatar f tn I vomit a lot and as long as its not soon after the meds, my Lyme doc said its ok. As for the not eating, that is a normal human Lyme response for some. If I were you, I would check it out with the vet to be sure. Good luck!
