Avatar f tn I am not medically trained, but to my knowledge it's possible 14 days of Doxycycline was not long enough to eradicate the infection. The tests for Lyme Disease are not 100% accurate. If you are having symptoms, you may want to see a physician who is knowledgable about Lyme Disease (referred to as a LLMD). If you google "Lyme Disease Association" and go to their website, I believe they have a referral function to locate a LLMD.
Avatar m tn My St. Bernard was diagnosed with Lyme Disease Monday evening. She was limping for a few days and then it stopped and came back. We gave her an aspirin and it made her very sick, so we took her to vet and the the vet did a blood test that came back positive for Lyme. He gave us Amoxacilin and a med to settle her stomach. My problem is this, She is limping much worse today then she was on Monday. She is eating but not as much previous to Lyme.
Avatar f tn t leaving until it was removed and a nurse flushed a dead rotten tick out with a water pick! I was then tested for Lyme and came back positive for Lyme and erlichiosis. I switched drs of course, he proceeded to tell me mo. Had no Lyme disease, he tested me again... Positive! I was put on 6 weeks of doxycycline. That was in 2001 and I have never recovered and am on disability and STILL being told I never had Lyme disease!!!! HELP!!
Avatar n tn You should look for a Lyme specialist or Neurologist who knows about Lyme Disease.
984138 tn?1359813073 doxycycline is what they treat you with for lyme right? Odd thing but my gyno called me in that medicine for a common thing probaly yeast infection... i just talked to the recpetionist not the actual doctor because it was very minor she said. But anywho should i take it? Obviously i should but should i take it when im a positive for lyme but have no LLMD yet and my ID just got back to work today so shes catching up with everyhting and havent looked at my results yet.
Avatar n tn Two weeks later a large infected rash appeared. I got myself tested for Lyme and it came out negative. I was given a day of Doxycycline and then it was changed to Amoxicillan. I took it for two weeks. The doctor told me to stop the medication and get retested. Two weeks later, I got my positive results. I had, at this point, two weeks on, two weeks off the antibiotics. When I returned to the doctor with positive results, he put me back on Doxycycline for another two weeks.
Avatar f tn In your situation, I would find a different MD for a fresh look at your history and symptoms. Doxycycline works in the very earliest stages of Lyme, but even if you saw a recent tick/tickbite before you were started on Lythe meds, it's quite possible that you could have been bitten and gotten Lyme months or years before that: the ticks are so tiny that they can be impossible to see, esp. if on the scalp or other places where they just don't show up.
Avatar f tn He also had shaking, muscle spasms. She took him to the vet and he was positive for lyme disease. He is on Doxycycline for 30 days, then will retest for the lyme. She said he looks and seems to feel terrible.... vet gave her pain pills for him too. Interesting..... people get brushed off, ..... At least the poor animals who have no voice get treated!! Best wishes and healing to all!
Avatar m tn He has been on Doxycycline for a week now, even though his results for Lyme were negative. Is it normal to have negative results if you do have Lyme disease? Is it normal for a fever to last for weeks. When can he expect to start feeling better? Any info or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn You ask, "Is it possible for the symptoms to be due to my immune system over reacting from the doxycycline which I finished 2 weeks ago or is that something the docs like to assume?
Avatar f tn I have been suffering from almost every symptom listed for Lyme Disease since being diagosed in 2007. Most recently I have had seizures and cognitive problems causing problems at work. Does anyone have any information regarding preferred treatment other than antibiotics and pills for the symptoms. I rarely have a day withont pain. Help!
Avatar n tn he referred me to my GP doctor. I have an appointment with my GP next week. Do you think I could have Lyme disease from the tick, and if so - are my current symptoms consistent with Lyme? I'm desparate; the pain is bad - and Aleve/Advill, etc. are no relief. Please help!
Avatar m tn You obviously tested positive for Lyme disease, even if your blood work was sent to a lab that is inferior to Igenex which is a specialty lab for tick diseases. Yes we're biased but for good reasons! Taking from Dr. B's treatment guidelines, which is a good place to start to read about Lyme disease treatments, if you haven't already: "The tetracyclines, including doxycycline and minocycline, are bacteriostatic unless given in high doses.
1138687 tn?1548643978 There are natural herbs that people use for chronic Lyme however with a recent bite IMO I would do the antibiotics. You don't want to wait and wind up like many of us, disabled and miserable. If I were in your shoes, I would run towards the medicine.
Avatar f tn Good Morning everyone. I am new to this forum and have a question to post. I have currently been diagnosed with chronic lyme disease. I have been fighting this "monster" for over ten years. . Can anyone share what type of diet might help control symptoms in chronic lyme disease?
Avatar n tn I was just diagnosed with lyme disease and will be taking Doxycycline for 30 days. Can anyone tell me if I must avoid dairy entirely or just avoid it a couple of hours before and after taking this antibiotics? Thanks.
Avatar n tn Last tests were positive for Mono (which I had when I was 17) and Lyme Disease. Started on three weeks of doxycycline. Lots of questions: Is it very likely to have so few symptoms with Lyme Disease? Are hypertension and tachycardia common symptoms of Lyme? Is it possible that I've had it since February without more symptoms and without worsening? Have any of you had Mono and Lyme at the same time? Are false positives common in this type of situation?
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone has tried a product called Immunfactors for Lyme Disease? It's a product which has live antibodies which claim to help kill or suppress the bacteria. I talked to a natural healthcare practitioner who treats chronic lyme patients with this product and has success. It cannot be taken at the same time with antibiotics, however, because the antibiotic will interfere with the antibody action. I am thinking about trying it once I complete a round of doxycycline.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone, I have been suffering from chronic pain and fatigue problems for nearly 2 years now and recently got tested for Lyme Disease. I live in the South West of England. I do not recall being bitten by a tick and neither do my parents but you never know. I never had a rash. My problems began after severe emotional stress over only a period of 3 months. I suffer burning skin, fatigue, shakiness, stinging skin, sore throats, occasional migraine, feeling of weakness.
Avatar f tn I should non specific white matter at the front of my brain. (I have read this can be related to Lyme Disease and also MS.) I currently waiting to see an neurologist and Im also working with an ENT to rule in or out inner ear problems etc. Im scheduled for a ENG balance test tomorrow that I have been waiting to get an appointment for, for 7 months now. Anyways I came across information on Lyme Disease on the internet a month ago and started reading it.
Avatar f tn If this is true, it is significant that some physicians follow a protocol for treating Lyme disease that allows just two to six weeks of antibiotic therapy. Based on the above scenario this may be inadequate. "If either of the above examples are true, this may mean that physicians who are acting in good faith by using conservative treatment protocols may actually be prolonging and thus complicating Lyme infection in their patients. However, much of this theory is speculative.
