Avatar f tn I have kept him away from other dogs to avoid getting them sick. The vet diagnosed him with kennel cough and put him on Doxycycline 100 mg - he takes 1 1/2 pills twice a day. He started them on Tuesday. He has also had a Bordetella vaccine. His cough seems to be getting worse instead of better. We cut our walk quite short this morning because he was really coughing and coughing up a lot of phlegm (gray and pale yellow).
Avatar n tn YES......The Kennel Cough Vaccine covers about 2 strains of Kennel Cough...There are approximately 30 something different strains which make the shot a JOKE!!!!
Avatar f tn Kennels, crates, and bowls should be disinfected and all her bedding should be washed. Especially if you have other dogs and also for her protection. Hope it clears up soon and she back to good health.
Avatar f tn ll probably need antibiotics for the cough. Bordatella vaccine to prevent kennel cough. Sometimes it takes a couple of rounds of antibiotics for the cough. My dog did. Also, you should get the bordatella every 6 months especially if she is around other dogs & at dog parks. Did your vet say its okay for her to be around other dogs yet? I forget how long your suppose to wait before you expose them to other dogs?
Avatar f tn they are both on antobiotics and on the cough pill but now neither of them will eat and they are barley drinking and they just lay there and barley move I am so worried. what else besides kennel cough is contagious and makes dogs cough and become lathargic???? I do not want them to die!!!!
Avatar n tn His cough sounds dry like a honking goose. Took to vet he said could be kennel cough and put him on doxycycline but also said he heard a heart like murmur. The vet did say that the heart could have sounded like that cause of the dog not feeling well if it was kennel cough and/or being anxious. How did I have a vibrant healthy eating dog one day and a sick one the next. His appetite seems still to be ok. He just wants to eat anything else except his dry food at this time.
Avatar m tn Be sure your dog has been vaccinated for kennel Cough as this is quite common and a hacking cough is the cardinal sign in an otherwise, apparently healthy dog. An Herbal Canine Cough remedy you might consider that is helpful to relieve coughing associated with Canine Kennel Cough is Slippery elm and the dose is 5ml which is the equivalent of one teaspoon by mouth, as needed.
694466 tn?1227677802 Was your dog vaccinated for kennel cough within the last six months? Next question: When was your dog's last heartworm test? This blood test should be run annually on all dogs. Is your dog on heartworm preventive? When was the last dose that you gave? It is not possible that she contracted heartworms from the kennel. If your pet has not been on heartworm preventive, it would be a good idea to take her to the veterinarian for a blood test. Is she sneezing or coughing?
Avatar f tn Well it was kennel cough. We saw the other vet in the office. She's on meds n got a shot. They haven't even been around any other dogs, but he said that they could've gotten it from running the fence with a neighbor dog.
Avatar f tn My dogs are recovering from kennel cough too. One of my dogs got over the cough in just two days, but my other dog has had the cough since the second week of July. She just finished her antibiotics and prednisone and now she's on cough syrup, the pediatric robutussin, three times a day. She's still coughing, but not as much as last week. I think it's just something you have to wait out.
Avatar n tn then maybe hes chewed something and its caught, kennel cough air bourne...if hes been around other dogs or in public...it would seems something is not right and that you probably already know... Tip: If my dog has a hair or something aggitating him, I give a little bread w/butter, the butter picks up the hair and the bread take is down the stomach... Good luck, keep the forum posted of your outcome...
1491913 tn?1288486935 Do you think he could have something stuck in his throat? There is another thing that dogs sometimes do, and that's called "Reverse sneezing" Take a look at some videos of dogs doing this Reverse Sneezing (there are some on youtube) And see if the sound he makes is anything like that. Reverse Sneezing is harmless, and no-one really knows the cause, but many dogs do it.
Avatar n tn In my experience, I have seen cases of tracheobronchitis (kennel cough) last for 6 or even 8 weeks. Has either veterinarian done a culture and sensitivity test? This test helps to specify what antibiotic will work best on the "bugs". Without that kind of test, you really don't know if the antibiotics aren't working or if the illness is just more prolonged. I would also ask our experts in the Ask A Vet forum for their advice.
415109 tn?1304890182 We have a 9 yr old Low Chen who for the past 2 weeks has been hacking and coughing almost constantly. He did have valley fever 2 years ago and was treated successfully and his titer is negative. He coughs but doesn't cough anything up-just sounds like he is going to choke or get something out. sometimes rubbing his throat gently and calming him down will make it quit but as soon as you stop he starts again. He is in otherwise good health.
Avatar f tn a half later he developed kennel cough passing it on to our other three dogs. The vet gave us oral antibiotics to give to the dogs for the coughing, they all never stopped eating & are all playfull and happy as tgey usually are except my puppy. He still eats but he pooped red liquid which we figured it would be blood. We took him to the vet & they kept him the rest of the day to keep an eye on him & had him on IV.
Avatar n tn I agree with Karla, it sounds like Kennel Cough to me. Kennel cough often resolves itself as long as it's not a real serious case of it. There has been good results treating this disease with azithromycin. Sanchez is certainly an adorable little boy! I hope he is back to normal again soon! Please keep us updated.
Avatar f tn My dog has been coughing for the last couple of days. She acts like something is stuck in her throat. I was walking her and she began to cough again and then vomited up white mucus. At night, she began to grunt softly. I would like to know if there is anything I could do to help her until I get her to the vet. She is only 2yrs old. She does not seem to be sick because she eats the same and is extremely playful. Please help me. I am very worried.
507241 tn?1225491785 After adopting a dog from a shelter my dog was diagnosed with kennel cough. Many people tell me their dogs never vomited when they had this .My dog finally started eating but when she drinks water the dry cough starts and she vomits the water everytime. This has been one week now.How long will this last ?? My vet put her on antibiotics and he is away for a few days.
Avatar n tn It sounds like your dog may have kennel cough (tracheobronchitis). It is a highly treatable condition and very common. She will need antibiotics and cough medicine, so please take her to the vet.
184674 tn?1360860493 Last night, my mom called me to tell me she had our 13½ year old family westie, Zeke, at the emergency vet and was about to have him put down. It felt like my stomach dropped like a ton of bricks when she said those words through her tears. She said that after I had left her house yesterday afternoon that he started coughing, panting and shaking, and it came on suddenly, so she rushed him to the vet.
Avatar f tn Hi. If this has been going on for more than 2 or 3 days (maximum) then it is likely a gastrointestinal infection, which will need antibiotics. She needs the attention of a vet to examine, diagnose accurately and prescribe medicine. You should not leave this, so borrow money if you have to, or sell something to raise the funds, or seek the help of a local canine welfare association - or ask your vet if you can pay in installments - whatever it takes, please get your dog to the vet.
Avatar n tn I have spoken with my vet about kennel cough, but the cough does not sound like the dry, hacking cough of kennel cough. It is a very congested sounding cough. Also, we have had her on multiple doses of antibiotics, some of which were some very high-powered ones in combination with a low-dose steriod, which carry some very serious side effects for such a tiny puppy.
1756475 tn?1330538713 this again leads me to question whether it is influenza, as neither dog influenza or kennel cough would not ordinarily last this long. For example, kennel cough would usually have cleared up within 2 weeks. Have both your dogs been vaccinated against kennel cough? Distemper is also a more serious concern, particularly if your dog has not been vaccinated against this sometimes fatal virus.
Avatar f tn I too have a Wheaton. This has never been a problem for him. The kennel cough is something you should look into. If you have other dogs you know kennel cough is contagious. There is also a preventive vaccine for it. Also worms will make a dog gag and do that thing where you think they will throw up but they don't. Heart worms can also cause these symptoms. If I were you I would see a vet asap. Hope you figure it out.
Avatar n tn t stop, then you may be dealing with Kennel Cough if your dog has been out around other dogs such as the Vet, kennel or groomers....... You might google "Reverse Sneeze" and see if this is what your seeing....It's common in toy breeds... Also, it may be a case of allergy related congestion triggered by usually dust or dryness...... Let me know....
