Doxycycline for gum disease

Common Questions and Answers about Doxycycline for gum disease

My wife has had an allergic reaction to doxycycline. She took pills for about one week and then she noticed a few red spots on her body. She stoped taking the medicine but the spots continued to spread more and more for over a week now. Someplace they just grow into one big spot anymore and they start to be itchy. Doctors say to wait, another says to take steroids, which we are reluctant to take. What shall we do? Anybody seen or heard about similar cases?
Oh I forgot to mention that my bf was put on docy too for the chlamydia that he thought I had even tho he didnt test me for it. Sooo now after this last time that it came back I am having real bad problems with cramping and I'm frustrated that this horrible disease keeps coming back. So my question is, has anyone had their PID recurr over and over again or can this be maybe trich and since my bf wasnt treated with the right meds for it he keeps giving it to me?
One normally seeks out an MD in a field that seems a logical place for treatment of a particular disease (such as an ID doctor for infectious disease), but in Lyme, that is not always so. As well, there are some doctors who have rather odd ideas about Lyme and its co-infections, and you will have to use your judgment whether to consult with them. It sometimes takes a few tries to find the best doctor for you, but it is worth the effort.
There are several of us on here who have a similar eye complaint: seeing a bright flash, like the afterimage of a flash bulb, when we blink, and sometimes, on upgaze. This is transient symptom for most of us, lasting anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. When the "spot" in our visual field passes over a dark background, the spot appears light. When the spot passes over a light background, it appears dark.
Next, I went to my family doctor clinic and was tested again for chlamydia and gonorrhea. While waiting for that result I was given 100mg of doxycycline 2 times per day for 10 days. Again the tests were negative. I finished this medication about 4 days ago. The stinging in my penis mostly went away by day 6 of this medication but after finishing it the pain has started to creep back in. Still no discharge. And no other aches or pains this time.
Urethritis is one of the most common reasons for men to visit their local genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinic or sexual health clinic. There are around 80,000 cases of urethritis diagnosed in men visiting GUM clinics every year. It is more difficult to diagnose urethritis in women because it may not cause as many symptoms. Outlook NSU is usually treated with antibiotics (medicines to treat bacterial infections) and the symptoms usually go away within two weeks.
3 doctors including Ear,Nose,Throat spec and my dentist did not see anything clinical (no thrush) for treatment.I was diagnosed with the start of minor gum disease but some of my symtoms don't match up.At 2 weeks I also tested Negative for STD's.Still need to wait 3-6 months for another HIV test.3-4 weeks of occurance I also had some experience of naseau, depression, mild anxiety attacks. For several weeks, urethra seems swollen off and on with no pain or discharge.
I ask because I have recurring NSU for a number of yrs. My GUM clinic has reassured me there is no reason to be concerned at this stage. I attended them numerous occasions. Some times there has >5 WBCs, on other occasions there was no NSU (i.e. <5 WBCs). No Gon or Chl found in any tests. In summary: 1st visit: NSU - Took 1g zithromax - wasn't called back. 2nd visit: 6 weeks later - No NSU 3rd visit: 16weeks later - NSU - Took 1g Zithromax. 4th visit: Returned 8 weeks later - No NSU.
Was given 2 weeks, 100mg twice daily,Doxycycline presumptively for Chlamydia, but to clear the apparent NSU. 1)From the 2 incidents described above, what STDs am I likely to be at risk of?HIV/Syhilis? 2)1g azithromycin is the norm for NSU/Chlamydia. Does taking 2g reduce effectiveness in treating Chlamydia? The pharm dispensed the prescription in 8 250mg tablets. Taken all at once, does this equate to the 2g single dose?
Most of your symptoms don't suggest BV as the cause. GUM clinics don't test for Ureaplasma for the same reason that US STD clinics don't do it and that I don't recommend it: whether positive or negative, the test makes no difference because generally Ureaplasma doesn't cause disease. At any point in time, half of all women and sexually active men have ureaplasma in their genital tracts. Since the GUM clinic is convinced you don't have an STD, you should rely on on that conclusion.
With the chronic late stage form of the disease, it may be necessary to continue antibiotic treatment for months or years. Lyme's Disease is very misdiagnosed due to false negatives. Then again Doxy for 7 days and it got better for a while. But then again back, I have taken Cefixime for 7 days. It again got better only to come back. Another doctor prescribed me Ofloxacin with some dazole, but I could only take this one for 5 days. I have done 2 tests for STDs during this period and everybody comes negative but my symptoms remain. Recently, I have taken Azithro 1gm followed by Cefixime 400mg and am on Doxy for 10 days (on the 2nd day today). Symptoms remain the same.
So I am going to seek another periodontist to do flap surgery on me, to hopefully try to stop the disease, and to salvage what teeth I may have left after the surgery. Both the dentist and the periodontist told me that some of my teeth are such that they will come out during the surgery. This is really a shame because my teeth themselves are very healthy and good looking, it is just that they have no more bone to hold onto. This is really horrible and I am having a hard time with it.
with the negative 90 day can I resume sexual contact with a steady girlfriend who is definitely negative and disease free? Is there any reason for me as a 32 year old healthy male no diseases or immune problems to test out to 180 days? I have not had any sex since this event , gave the blood at the lab and clinics as mentioned if that is a risk of any kind, apologies in advance if thats the dumbest thing you have ever heard.
The infection that your grandfather has is not going to be HIV or any other STI for that matter. You using the guest toothbrush will not give you any disease. I often tell people that I think OCD should be renamed OMG for all of those Oh My God moments of irrational thoughts we have and also for Obsessive Mind Game because honestly that is what we are doing to ourselves...we are allowing our own mind to play tricks on us. That is where we need to gain the control back.
then I went to the doctor and they test me for chlamydia and gonorrhea, 7 days and 12 days after exposure and all came back negative and they gave me a course of doxycycline for possible testicle infection. When i took those tablets, my fatigue, cloudy urine, abdominal pain, no appetite, pain after masterbation removed but right tonsile pain and itchy rash on my arms stay until now.
Neither of us on this site have ever seen or reading the medical literature of a convincing instance in which HIV was passed by oral sex. This includes by all of the people who had gum disease, etc. Furthermore this does not change when people are exposed to pre-ejaculatory fluid or ejaculate on if the oral sex is vigorous.
Thanks for the picture, which corroborates the lovely description you've given of steroid rosacea. Not everyone gets this response to steroids on the face, but when they do, they get a rash just like yours. Every time you try to stop, the rash gets redder and angrier, so you start again. Some people call this "steroid addiction." However, you are going to be totally fine.
Before taking penicillin V, tell your doctor if you have ever had asthma, colitis (inflammatory bowel disease), diabetes, or kidney or liver disease. For infections such as strep throat, it is important to take penicillin V for the entire amount of time your doctor has prescribed. Even if you feel better, you need to continue taking this medication. If you stop taking this medication before your treatment time is complete, your infection may recur.
January 16, 2010 met and picked up 46 year old female in bar. Both of us very drunk. Engaged in brief unprotected vaginal intercourse for no more than a couple of minutes. No ejaculation. Went to ER doc and he prescribed one 500 mg Cipro and a 14 day course of doxycycline. And I talked him into a PEP regimine which I only took 3 tablets then became scared of the toxicity and stopped. The ER doc said they don't usually even prescribe PEP for this sort of concern.
All symptoms intensified at night. 9/7: All symptoms persist. Visited Planned Parenthood was examined, told my symptoms might be gonorrhea or chlamydia. Was given a shot of antibiotics and a 10 day prescription for Doxycycline. 9/9: All symptoms persist. Pain in groin seems moderately better but lymph nodes in groin, armpits, and neck still swollen. 9/11: Swelling in neck intensified making swallowing difficult. Armpit swelling persists along with burning and dry skin.
After 5 days I had burning feeling in my bladder where I had to urinate every 5 minutes or so. I tested negative for all possible STDs but I received doxycycline, Zithromax and metronidazole. And later I got 1 G of Cefaxone (intravenous) and later 500 mg of Cefixime for 5 days. I had HIV, HBC and HCV PCR qualitative test after 10 days (results: not detected), tested HIV combo after 21, 40, and 72 days (results: nonreactive).
Since then you have been treated with three different antibiotics which are very active against bacterial STDs (azithromycin, doxycycline and levofloxacin) as well as other antibiotics for bronchitis. Your tests for STDs are negative. There is just no way that your symptoms are due to an STD. So, what could this be? I do not know if having been prevented from ejaculation during your exposure might have caused some sort of hydraulic damage to your urinary system or not.
If a patient has antibodies for a disease and has symptoms of that disease, odds are extremely high that the patient does indeed have that disease and needs to be treated for it. But when it comes to Lyme Disease, all logic is out the window. The orthodoxy prevails over common sense and any compassion for a sick patient. You are positive for Lyme Disease. You have Lyme specific antibodies, including bands 23 and 39, which you can only get by having Lyme Disease bacteria in your body.
After a while I figured out that the source of the bad breath was the gum area right above the crown. If I rub my finger in the gum area just above the crown, it smells really bad. I can even smell it in the floss after I have flossed the crown tooth. My dentist did the ususl once-every 6 months cleaning but the smell persists. He took an X-Ray and he ruled out any tooth decay and he says that the gums look fine. He sent me to a gum specialist and she too didnt find anything.
GUM stands for Genito-Urinary Medicine - a clinic that specializes in that department. From what you say, I cannot help you - if you have had the tests and they are all negetive you shouldn't have much to worry about. Stress itself lowers the immune system and can result in you being more prone to infections and illness. If you are very stressed and these symptoms keep on flaring up, why not try chilling yourself out a bit? See if that helps?
Which the only exposure I would have had to that was from him giving me oral (which that in itself is incredibly rare) I was not tested for STDs due to lack of money and insurance. I also did not test for HIV because everyone here assured me I was just worrying for no reason. So I chalked up my muscle and joint pain at that time up to Chlamydia and figured I was fine, although my swollen glands in my neck that would cause me pain from time to time still persisted.
I was given broad spectrum antibiotics( Rocephin/ Azithromax/Doxycycline for 2 weeks). I had fever and severe stomach issues continued and appetite loss during the whole time. After 5 weeks, my testicular pain and urethral burning has gone away but now I have developed severe white tongue issues, rashes/scratch marks in the arms, muscle pain and fatigue, lump in the throat, enlarged circumvallate papillae and i get bruised easily.
