Doxycycline for gonorrhea and chlamydia

Common Questions and Answers about Doxycycline for gonorrhea and chlamydia

doryx

Avatar f tn You need to re-test and I would recommend have your regular partner tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia; there is a risk for your re-infection.
Avatar f tn Doxy only cures chlamydia if I am correct. I got treated for both chlamydia and gonorrhea just in case when I thought I wasn't cured and it was two different medications. Your discharge may be from a yeast infection due to the doxy you were taking for acne. What Vance didn't say was that we do not advise on self medicating so, if that is why you are asking, it is strictly unadvised.
Avatar f tn They treated me for Gonorrhea and Chlamydia while sending the test off (only vaginal swab). They gave me a shot and 4 zithromax and 4 other anti fungal type pills. Well they also prescribed doxycycline. I started taking it. Raging yeast infection! Well i took the doxycycline for 5 days before my ex fiance wanted to come back. We were together sexually on the 19th. No oral. (The gonorrhea and chlamydia test came back negative....vaginally) im scared to death it could still be in my throat.
Avatar n tn It has no effect against chlamydia or the other bacteria that cause cervicitis in women and NGU in men, and borderline efficacy at best against gonorrhea and syphilis. The alternative to doxycycline is azithromycin 1.0 g orally in a single dose, which is safe and effective in pregnancy. If gonorrhea is a concern, then it's azithromycin plus a cephalosporin antibiotic, such cefixime or cefpodoxime; or a 2.0 g dose of azithromycin.
Avatar m tn Accordingly, it will make gonorrhea and chlamydia tests negative, and may result in lower strength in RPR and VDRL, commonly used to diagnose syphilis. But this isn't really the same as "interference": that is, the tests themselves work just fine after or during doxycycline treatment.
Avatar m tn So, I really guess i am infected from the oral sex just not sure what virus caused that. Could gonorrhea, chlamydia and HSV2 cause pharyngitis? If yes, can doxycycline work for that?
Avatar m tn Yes I have been tested negative for HIV and syphillis. I actually have Gonorrhea too in my throat and got ceftriaxone injection.
Avatar m tn I was treated with 1gm of Azithromycin, a shot of Rosephin 250mg, 2 shots of Benzylpenicillin, and 2 gm of Flagyl to treat Trich, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and Syphilis. The Dr. did this to put my mind at ease and said it's highly unlikely, that if I had any of these, that I'd still have them after all of this treatment. However, two days after treatment, the tip of my meatus/urethral opening started to sting. Not when I urinated, but most of the time.
Avatar m tn I took a UTI test Via urine, 2 days into doxycycline and it was negativ. The rest of my urine was sent off for cultures for gonorrhea, chlamydia, and other bacteria. Now I'm stuck playing the waiting game. Any insight that can at least help me relax?
Avatar f tn I went to the community clinic last week because I started to have gono/chlamydia symptoms. I saw an APRN who based on my description of the symptoms put me on Doxycycline 100mg for 7 days. Of course I also got tested for everything (Idk the results yet). What is concerning me is that, I began to take the antibiotics last Wednesday, and the symptoms went away about 2 days later, so I was really happy.
Avatar n tn The recommended thing is to wait 5 days to test for gonorrhea and chlymida...if positive then treatment is given from there.
Avatar m tn While neither doxycycline nor levofloxacin are recommended therapy for gonorrhea, in many cases they would cure the infection in the very, very unlikely circumstance that you had been infected. At this time, I would suggest that you see your own doctor for evaluation of your symptoms. Further self-medication or just guessing what might be happening without testing is not a good idea. There is little or no chance that they are due to your receipt of unprotected oral sex 10 weeks ago.
Avatar m tn I am afraid that whomever put you on Cipro without testing for gonorrhea and chlamydial infections has put you between a rock and a hard place. You do not mention your age but urinary tract infections are rare in men younger than 40 and thus testing for STIs should almost ALWAYS be done in evaluating such symptoms in men under age 40.
Avatar m tn hello, I had protected vaginal sex and unprotected oral sex with a random person I met one night (female) and 6 days later i got tested for STD's (gonorrhea, chlamydia, Herpes 1 &2 and HIV) which all came back negative, but as the week went on i began having increasing pain in my scrotum/penis until this past tuesday it became so bad that i went to the ER they tested for torsion which i didn't have and diagnosed Epidiymitis due to the pain which i know can be caused by STD's the
Avatar f tn If you had been exposed, doxycycline would definitely prevent or abort chlamydia and syphilis, but not necessarily gonorrhea. When you started the doxy makes no significant difference. Now that you have started, I would advise taking the doxy for a full week (100 mg twice daily for 7 days). Then move on without worry.
Avatar m tn Hi, I am under treatment for Gonorrhea & Chlamydia as i didnt go for a test but had a colorless and sometimes white & light yellow discharge from tip of my penis with a burning sensation & frequent urination. Doctor gave me doxycycline 100mg for 10days. I am on my 4th day. Since yesterday discharge has increased and its not stopping. Is this normal or is this how it gets healed. I am worried if the medication isnt working or this is how you get healed from gonorrhea or chlamydia.
Avatar m tn Tell me more about the urine test you had. Ideally it would include specific tests for gonorrhea and chlamydia. (Chlamydia was actually zero risk, since it is rarely if ever acquired by oral sex -- but the most common gonorrhea test usually includes automatic chlamydia testing.) A simple urinalysis doesn't mean very much one way or the other. Still, the chance you caught anything that you then transmitted to your wife the next day is very, very low.
Avatar m tn I am not sure if the urine test you had was for gonorrhea and chlamydia, for white blood cells (signs of inflammation seen with NGU) or both. Most probably and based on your symptoms, I would have treated you with either doxycycline or azithromycin for the problem you describe 1. Does this sound like a possible STD? Yes, what you describe could be NGU or less likely gonorrhea a acquired through oral sex.
Avatar n tn Sulfa drugs were commonly used against Gonorrhea and Chlamydia in the 30's and 40's and still remain effective against Chlamydia....not so much against Gonorrhea. However, resistance to sulfa drugs has steadily increased and typically treatment for one includes treatment for the other.. and today Chlamydia is usually treated with doxycycline.
Avatar m tn Subsequely (three days later) the test results from the urgent care facility have come back negative for gonorrhea and chlamydia, and the discharge has persisted. However, it has changed colors from green/yellowish to white in the morning and clear by the afternoon. Does this mean the antibiotics prescribed for gonorrhea are working anyway? How quickly should I begin to see results?
Avatar m tn About six months ago, I was diagnosed with Gonorrhea after noticing discharge and painful urination. Turns out, my girlfriend had an oral infection, and she transmitted Gonorrhea to me through oral sex. We were both treated. She was given Rocephin and Azithromyocin, and I was given Rocephin and Doxycycline. I wasn't given Rocephin until after my bacterial culture revealed it Gonorrhea and not Chlamydia, but Doxycyline cleared my symptoms within 4 hours.
