Doxycycline for cellulitis

Common Questions and Answers about Doxycycline for cellulitis

Today I decided to get a second opinion and went to Doctors Care and they took one look in my nose and without hesitation diagnosed me with cellulitis (staph infection). I was prescribed Doxycycline Hyclate 100MG tablets and also they administered a shot of antibiotics and gave me a prescription for Bactroban nasal ointment. Seems this is a really serious infection that can spread to your brain if not treated and thanks to my own gut feeling I got a second opinion.
If not he will be sending me to an ENT for scoping and a CT scan. I am in the Tampa, FL area for those who are asking.
My thumb got very hard after doing floral design. I was treated for cellulitis with doxycycline. After a few days, the thumb started softening and feeling much more normal again. It started to feel a little worse while I was still on the doxycycline but was sidelined with a head cold. After resting from the headcold for a couple of days, that's when the thumb seemed worse and I woke up with terrible ringing in the ears.
Lymphadenopathy occurs in relation to an infection. For your symptoms cellulitis needs to be ruled out. Cellulitis is an acute infection of skin and soft tissues characterized by localized pain, swelling, tenderness, erythema, and warmth. It usually follows a break in the skin, such as a fissure, cut, laceration, insect bite, or puncture wound.
My doctor prescribed an antibiotic cream and tetracycline (doxycycline) which I've been using for a week and it has cleared up.Although he didn't test he thought it was likely caused by a spider or tick bite( with the risk of Lyme disease). .
already think it is infected, hence the doxycycline. Even if it was a cellulitis, doxycycline would cove the common pathogens.
I agree there are no signs of periorbital cellulitis. The tetracycline family of antibiotics is quite beneficial for the treatment of blepharitis and meibomianitis. It is not real helpful in an acute setting, but helps in preventing future obstructions by altering the composition of the meibomian secretions. Common side effects are GI sensitivity and photosensitivity. They are often prescribed for a month or two, and then stopped for a few months.
(internal medicine) and he diagnosed as infected. Prescribed Doxycycline and clotrimazole and betamethasone dipropionate cream. 10/24 - Allergic reaction to doxycycline (skin rash), switched to Sulfameth and added 12-day decreasing strength Rx of Prednisone to treat allergic reaction. 12/5 - Wound was healing, but now has gotten worse - inflamed and weeping. Continuing cleaning and use of bacitracin 2x per day. 12/7 - Went back to Dr. The Dr.
Thank you so much I believe I have dissecting cellulitis of the scalp I took antibiotics Doxycycline and Prednisone steroid it seem to have work all my infection inflammation and Pus has gone away, hopefully for ever I will have to wait and see for the permanent results, thank you again
Dear Pedro, Insect bite can be a sufficient entering point (traumatized, damaged skin) for microbial infection. Recommended treatment for widespread cellulitis are parenteral (intramuscular or intravenous administration) antibiotics, effective on causative pathogen (e.g. Streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, etc.) Cool, sterile, saline dressings are used to decrease local pain and heat. Swelling may be reduced by immobilization of affected areas.
Went to PA at local Doc in the Box and was issued levaquin 750mg and bactrim DS for round 2 for cold and for possible cellulitis. A return trip to be made if signs/symptoms persist/worsen.
I just finished 10 days of Levaquin qd and 8 days of Bactrim bid (supposed to take for 10 days as well) prescribed for an infected abcess/cellulitis resulting from a ruptured sebaceous cyst. When I went to sleep last night, my legs felt itchy, but I thought it was just winter dry skin. I woke up this morning and discovered a maculopapular rash over my enire torso (chest, stomach, back) and both arms and legs, but nothing on my face. Slightly itchy but bearable.
My dermatologist injected corisone directly into the boils/bumps and put me on doxycycline, then oracea for about six months total. I've had no recurrences since then, so I sometimes wonder if I actually had HS or if maybe it was a MRSA infection (I was substitute teaching in the NYC public schools during the whole MRSA scare at the time).
In any case, I do have an appointment to go in tomorrow early AM, so hopefully the doctor can clear some of this up for me. Thanks Jamlws for answering.
35 yr. F. I have pain and inflammation in my hips/groin for 20 mths on L side and 10 mths R side. Femoral nerves are painful, numbness. Hip impingement both sides, painful mobility/range of motion problems, ortho says caused by inflammation. I have seen 2 neurologists, 2 orthos, 2 rheum. + 2 PCP's & several ER visits. I take lots of meds including neurontin, skelaxin, vic. for groin pain. During this time also diagnosed w/endo.
What type of testing is done for this? I've had blood cultures done. Still waiting for final results but so far 3 sets haven't shown anything. Thank you!
Hi, The nodules of hidradenitis suppurativa may need to be drained in the emergency department, particularly if they are very large, fluctuant, and painful. Antibiotics are indicated if cellulitis or fever is present, and you should get admitted if you have fever, etc. Surgical consultation may be obtained for removal of sinus tracts, curettage, and exteriorization of the gland. Excision and skin grafting may be helpful for severe intractable cases.
(Atkins induction menu for one whole month instead of the suggested two weeks) I did this recently for one whole month (SHEER TORTURE...LOL) was very strict about it when I did it, and I kept the carbs below 15 grams a day. MEAT, EGGS, CHEESE AND LETTUCE ONLY!!! "YES" TO MAYO and ranch dressing, NO TO KETCHUP (it contains sugar) also...NOTHING WHITE...I allowed myself a very small portion of green beans or broccoli once a day. I also drank enough water to fill a lake.
At darkness her both eyes look normaly dilated but in daylight her pupils have diferent sizes (the left is larger) I took her to the vet on saturday, the vet found her healthy, without fever or with a signal of being sick, just with her left eyelid a bit swollen and suggested me to go to an ophthalmologist. I made an appointment for today. but I'm too worried. She eat, walk and act normaly in fact she doesn't look to be sick just has her left pupil look strange and is always dilated.
The bacteria can cause infection when they enter the body through a cut, sore, catheter, or breathing tube. The infection can be minor and local (for example, a pimple), or more serious (involving the heart, blood, or bone). Serious staph infections are more common in people with weak immune systems. This includes patients in hospitals and long-term care facilities and those receiving kidney dialysis.
I had the nurse send it to the lab, where they only cultured it for TB?? which was negative. After that mucus came out my fever started to come down, and has stayed down. I was discharged to the ENT who scoped my nose and said my adenoids were enlarged (pressing on my eustachian tubes, reason why I heard this white noise sound) and *****. He told me to stay on the LEVAQUIN and irrigate my nose with salt water as often as possible. I did this and the mucus cleared up a lot.
I have been having problems for a long time now and have gone to several doctors that say nothing is wrong. I was on antibiotics for orbital cellulitis this winter. I think I tried to pop a pimpled and it got infected. I was given two shots of rocephin and then put on doxycycline. In the middle of the doxycycline I noticed that I was having weird white spots appear...especially in the shower.
Meaning i have high insulin resistance=my body produces too much insulin so therefore,i have to take glucophage and byetta for type 2 diabetes which i don't have. And i also have to take Blood pressure pills for a condition that doesn't exist. The reason i have to take the pills is because i'm at a high risk for a stroke. For the person who asked about whether or not they should go on accutane.
My wife has had chronic diarrhea, malabsorption, and weight loss for over 4 months. She continues to lose weight, from 140 to new low 113.2 today. The GI at Wake has her on a 2 week gluten-free diet. We are 3-days into the diet with no change. We know that a test showed low pancreatic enzymes and a biopsy severe colitis in her lower colon (GI said it looks like colitis caused by acute infection, but no infection found). Many tests (stool/blood) and biopsies have been done, all negative.

are now in the normal range. I have been treated for chronic depression for 8 years, but with these current symptoms, my Psychiatrist is convinced that something physical is going on. I do not have pain in my joints, or extrimities or thickening skin patches to suggest Scleroderma, though I occasionally have difficulty in swallowing. Is Scleroderma the only autoimmune condition to give a positive Anti-scl-70 result? According to my lab results anything >1.0 is positive.
I have recently been bit by an unknown assailent. Three days into the bite...I got a "Bull's Eye" rash. I had showed a Dr. at the clinic I work at and he prescribed me Doxycycline for 10 days for Lymes. I figured that if it was Lymes...YEY...lets nip it in the bud...if not... it would treat the cellulitis. 3 days after I started treatment I started to feel wiped out and my knee didn't feel right either...no position but moving felt right.
I'm on day 3 of taking a 7 day course of Keflex 250mg (cephalexin) for a cellulitis infection in my ankle, and my entire chest, neck and now my FACE had broken out in a bumpy, red, hivey mess. I recently changed my face moisturiser so I wasn't sure if the symptoms were an anitibiotic allergic reaction, or a new skin care product reaction. I think I now know which one to blame...
might have been coxsackie because I had a lot of chest/rib inflammation but I never figured out what it was. Recovered and felt pretty good for two weeks, then in the middle of May I started getting the dizzy/fatigued/nauseous spells telling me I was getting sick again, and then I got what I thought was a stomach virus but it never fully went away. For a while I was waking up every morning and vomiting like a pregnant woman, and I could barely eat anything.
