Common Questions and Answers about Doxycycline dosage syphilis

I would probably insist with the doctors to check the cerebral spinal fluid for signs of Syphilis infection just in case. 3. I would in your shoes. 4. Depends. - Doxycycline is efficient in eliminating Syphilis. I developed a small light rash in the trunk area in June last year (2013) which was there for months. I did a mycological analysis of the rash to see what it might be, but nothing problematic was indicated.
I was prescribed Azithromycin to syphilis (early stage). I am allergic to penicilin. However, the doctor prescribed 5 doses (one a day) of 500mg (that is, during 5 days). But I have read that for Syphillis the recommendation is 1g dose (instead of 500mg). 1) Is the dose prescribed enough for Syphillis? 2) five days is enough?
1) Given that oral syphilis is rare, and syphilis in general is rare, can you give me any idea of the odds of my having come into contact with a CSW with syphilis (I live in Germany)? 2) Due to a sinus infection, I have been taking 2 X 500 mg of Biaxin / day for the past four days, the prescription is for a total of 7 days. I started taking this 2 days after the event. Can you tell me whether this would cure potentially incubating Syphilis and Gonorrhea?
There are surely many headache triggers, and you don't state much about your situation (do you have Lyme, how long have you had it, is this your first time treating?). In terms of Lyme disease and adverse reactions to antibiotics, there is the Herxheimer Reaction. It is fairly specific to Lyme disease, though also (and originally, I believe) observed in syphilis. In a "Herx" reaction, the die-off of the bacteria causes a worsening of symptoms, or sometimes even new ones.
Was diagnosed with syphilis 2 weeks ago and went on the 14 day, 2 pills per day of 100mg doxycycline monohydrate. All of my obvious skin sores and spots almost disappeared except one on my penis head gland close to the pee hole. This spot is still noticeable. With penal activity I can barely make out a little skin discoloration where the other affected areas were. The following are my questions. 1. My urologist suggested I take another 14 days of doxycycline monohydrate.
I'll try to help but your doxycycline will make it a bit difficult to be 100% sure. Syphilis is a rare disease, in fact it is very rare with less than 10,000 cases occurring in the US, among a population of over 350 million. Furthermore, oral syphilis (it sounds as though your only exposures were oral) is a rarity among all cases of this rare disease. Finally, you have an excellent alternative explanation (folliculitis) which was considered by not one but two health care providers.
for now i think i have to rely on people who had the same disease(early syphilis) and the meds they took. i just wanna confirm if doxycycline 100mg twice a day for 14 days is enough just like what most websites say and do i really need a second shot of benzathine though i already had ceftriaxone?
Or just cured it? You were exposed to syphilis. Seven days of doxycycline is a recommended therapy following exposure to an infected partner. If you took all the medication, that should take care of things. 2) I read that the recommended dosage for doxycline is 2 weeks 100 mg twice a day. They only gave me a dosage of 100 Mg twice a day for 1 week. This has me worried. What if the Doxy doesn’t work what do you recommend as an alternative Im allergic to penicillin.
The risk of syphilis was low, and doxycycline would treat incubating syphilis, if present.
I did get a blood test for syphillis after being on doxycycline for 8 days, and after having all of those other antibiotics. Obviously that test came back neg, but I am assuming it wouldnt be any good due to the antibiotics. I tested neg for HIV at 4 weeks ( I had got mixed up and posted it was at 5 weeks, but it was only at 4 weeks). I never had any chancers though. I have been off of the doxy for two days and the pain in the lymph nodes has increased again.
Do you think my Syphilis treatment regimen is adequate? Yes, 14 days of doxycycline is a recommended therapy for syphilis is persons who have allergic reactions to ceftriaxone (Rocephin). I suspect those who treated you were concerned (as am I) that your reaction was a reaction to the ceftriaxone. I hope these comments are helpful.
All my test were negative, with the exception of syphilis. After a shot of rocephin, 500mg of Azithromycin, and one week of Doxycycline (1 more to go), I feel much better. I have a feeling that the Syphilis test may have been skewed by the bacteria that was in my system as Syphilis does not come on after 2 days, but stranger things have happened. Also, it could have been a joint infection of Syphilis and some other bacteria was causing the symptoms.
Seems to be susceptible to Doxycycline, but hospital only prescribed half the recomended dosage, dut to also injecting me with the Ceftriaxone and giving me zithromax. The Doxycycline got the swollen lymph nodes to almost stop hurting . They are only affected on the left side in the auxillary, cubital, groin and lower thigh. I feel like I get fevers, but temp is normal. I sometime appear to have a clear discharge when waking in the early am, but then it goes away for a day or two.
Having taken antibiotics for helicobacter would have also reduced your risk for getting some STDs (syphilis, perhaps gonorrhea).
Te ceftriaxone would cure gonorrhea, the doxy and z-pack would cure urethritis and chlamydia, and it sounds like you didn't have syphilis at all, or you would have had a positive test at 41 days. Your syphilis test would have shown lower levels, but would still be positive at that point. If you waited until you were finished the doxy to have sex, you are fine there. You don't need to wait any longer. The guidelines are 7 days after a 1 time dose, or after you finish the meds.
here in Japan and I told him I was tested for chlamydia syphilis and gonorrhea in the United States before I came to Japan. I asked him to test me again because I noticed a sore on the tip of my penis and had terrible stomach cramps, I had an itchy feeling in my penis and a clear discharge oh and my testicles were really starting to hurt.
16 hours later I began a regiment of Doxycycline Hyclate (100 mg) 2x daily for 7 days. I took every dose on time for the entire 7 days. On 08-19-11, my anxiety continued to grow and I began to have slight, nagging discomfort at the tip of my penis. No burning while urinating, no discharge that I can tell, just this discomfort. As I said, however, I have had severe anxiety and have been what I consider over self examining myself for symptoms.
this should kill off either chlamydia or gonnorhea, right? will this work on syphilis at this dosage and time frame if the infection can't be more than 6 weeks old? if not, will it further delay testing positive in the long run for syphilis?i know this means i'm probably at greater risk for other things as well. do u know or can u comment on the effectiveness of the hiv duo test at 29 days after possible exposure?
I suggested to him to wait 3 months after treatment to see what the numbers will be after Penicillin and possibly get a lumbar puncture test done to ascertain the potential presence of a Neurosyphilis infection. Doxycycline is considered effective for Syphilis treatment, but this is the second time here on Medhelp with a reported Doxycycline treatment failure (treatment failure means the tests do not show a 4 fold decrease in titer counts after 3 months time).
If you took azithromycin in one dose, that would take up to around 7 days to fully work. If you took doxycycline for 7 days, it will be cured by the time you are finished those meds. I'm guessing, maybe, that you were being treated for chlamydia and had sex too soon. If that's the case, your partner should be told to test. If your partner was being treated and you had sex too soon, you should test.
Went to the doctor and he tested me for Chlamydia (negative result) on Tuesday August 25th and prescribed me Azithromycin (1-time two-pill dosage). The irritation subsided but a week or so later came back. Very concerned, I went back and on Friday, September 4th, (13 days after exposure) the doctor gave me an injection of Rocephin and I have been on doxycycline two pills a day since Friday, September 4th (4 days ago). I do not have any discharge or sores, bumps, red spots, blisters, etc.
He gave me a shot of penicillin and prescribed Doxycycline Hyclate 100mg. 1 tab twice a day for 10 days. Also sent me for blood test on 23rd Nov. He later told me the blood test was fine. During this time sensitivity of the penis went away but felt slight discomfort in urethra and inconsistent light pain in the lower right of pelvic area. Is this because of antibiotics?
Just one last thing, one of the doctors I saw suggested that the Doxycycline treatment (100 mg Doxycycline every 12 hours for 5 days and a 500 mg Ciprofloxacin every 12 hours for 1 day) wasn't effective, not because the bacteria was resistant, but because the dosage wasn´t adecuate, and that that's why the discharge reduced at first but then picked up again. He said that Ciprofloxacin for just one day wasn't enough.
I was wondering if anyone could help me, this is costing me a fortune and making me miserable. I have taken Azithromycin, Doxycycline, Metronidazole, and Levaquin in that order. Here is a brief time line of my experience: June 2nd: noticed blood discharge after going for a run from the penis, there was no visible lesion but the hole looked inflamed. When the blood was cleaned up I later noticed a white discharge.
1. Zthromax + Tergecef single dosage of each 2. Ciprofloxacin 7 days 3. Levofloxacin 3 days 4. Doxycycline 4 days 5 Glitisol 500 mg two per day for 10 days Medications Dermatology in order taken (Philippines only): 1. Mupirocin cream for white bumps - did not help 2. Anti-fungal medications Testing with Negative Results (Philippines and Brazil and Germany): 1. HSV2 (IGG/IGM) - after one week with symptoms 2. HSV1/HSV2 (IGG/IGM) - after three weeks with symptoms 3.
He prescribed me a weeks worth of antibiotic (doxycycline) and told me that I should come back in 4 weeks. It is now 1 week after my last doctor visit (2 weeks and 1 day after the encounter) I am still feeling the discomfort (burning) in my urethra and have still had extreme gas and occasional cramping. I find myself constantly itching around my penis, testicals, and anus. I have yet to have fever, discharge, or genital lesions. Would a reaction to benzocaine last this long?
in your opnion do you think that i got this from the oral or are my wounds self inflicted. i am concerned that if i have Epididymitis that the 7 day dosage of the doxy will cut off short as the reccommended dosage by the CDC is 10 days. its been almost two months and i just want to get better and put this behiend me, i am 2 days into my zithro and doxy treatment and i think its working, just hard to tell as i have a cold and some sinus activity aswell.
Both the amoxicillin and the doxycycline (virbramycin) you took do have some activity against syphilis however a key consideration is the timing. The further out from your exposure, the less likely it is that taking antibiotics would affect your syphilis test results. Thus if someone took these drugs within a few days of exposure to an infected partner, their test results MIGHT be delayed.
If, even though you were condom protected, you wish to be tested for genital exposures as well, tests for gonorrhea, chlamydia and nongonococcal urethritis are appropriate. Your blood can be tested for syphilis and HIV. The tests on your throat and genital specimens will be valid for both exposures you describe. The blood tests only for the one about 3.5 weeks ago. the probability that any of these tests will be positive is miniscule. 3. Some are, some are not.
I had blood tests for Herpes, HIV, Hepititis, Syphilis and a Urine and Swab Microbiologocal and Culture test for gonnoreah and clamidya. The swab test indicated i had contracted Neisseria gonorrhoeae. And negitive for all other tests. However the sample "died" as it was too "fragile" to culture. I saw the female doctor and an infectologist. I was then given a shot of Cefotaxime 500mg and a weeks dose of another antibiotic specifically for Gonnoreah.
