Avatar n tn The vet prescribed doxycycline 100 mg twice a day for 3 weeks. My dog seems fine without any obvious symptoms. Can we just give him the doxycycline 100mg once a day instead because the medication may cause nausea/vomiting. Also after 3 weeks medication, how do you he is treated ? Any advice !
Avatar f tn The vet tried 4 different antibiotics ( amoxicillin, then rilexine then Zeniquin and last doxycycline) and none have cleared the infection. After the doxycycline in liquid form my dog has been vomiting constantly. He can’t seem to swallow comfortably anymore. Even water seems to be a problem. His breath is very acidic. I tried to give him food through the syringe but he vomits everything, even after water. I gave him subq to keep him hydrated.
Avatar n tn We then did a CBC and he tested positive for Anaplasmosis. He was immediately started on 50 mg of Doxycycline and given Tramadol for pain (I've added around 150mg of aspirin occasionally for inflammation). After initially improving (dramatically), his symptoms don't seem to be any better. I convinced the vet to give me another two weeks of Doxycycline, as they only gave me a two week supply, but it's been 10 days already and I'm concerned that I'm chasing a wild goose.
Avatar f tn Because my dog interacts with other dogs a lot, when he developed a "cough" I immediately took him to the vet. He had no fever, is eating and drinking normally and his activity level is normal - he doesn't at all act like a sick dog. I have kept him away from other dogs to avoid getting them sick. The vet diagnosed him with kennel cough and put him on Doxycycline 100 mg - he takes 1 1/2 pills twice a day. He started them on Tuesday. He has also had a Bordetella vaccine.
Avatar f tn He also had shaking, muscle spasms. She took him to the vet and he was positive for lyme disease. He is on Doxycycline for 30 days, then will retest for the lyme. She said he looks and seems to feel terrible.... vet gave her pain pills for him too. Interesting..... people get brushed off, ..... At least the poor animals who have no voice get treated!! Best wishes and healing to all!
Avatar f tn I am here (again) at the Chronic Kidney Failure in Dogs pg, but I don't see any "join" button. I have looked several times on different days. I did join some part some weeks ago, because I get automatically logged in when I click the favorite button. But what should I do now to join the ckf in dogs group?
Avatar f tn Doxycycline nearly always causes nausea in dogs, and often vomiting. However, it is a very effective antibiotic. Has he finished the antibiotic course already? If so, then it would be a good idea if you can feed him some natural "Live" yogurt (unflavoured) daily for a few days until you see any improvement, as this will act as a pro-biotic, replacing natural gut bacteria which will have been wiped out by the long antibiotic course. This will help his digestive balance.
Avatar f tn Our 7 year old yellow lab Rocco was recently diagnosed in the last stage of renal failure just a couple weeks ago. I brought him to our regular vet with symptoms of loss of appetite, bad breath & nausea. The vet did a brief exam & said his exam was unremarkable & didn’t feel like a blood work was necessary. Said he looks like a healthy dog. A week later I called the vet back & said I wanted blood work done. On a Friday they performed blood work & urinalysis.
Avatar n tn No generally there is no correlation between dogs ingesting antifreeze, antifreeze therapy and joint stiffness and/or lamness. My recommendation would be to have your vet run a complete blood profile which should help to reveal the actual cause of the joint issue. Auto-immune disorders are classic for canine rotating/shifting leg joint issues. I am glad to follow up on this with you.
Avatar m tn So, here we go. I live in Tennessee. My wife, son and two dogs went hiking about 3 weeks ago near Big South Fork and apparently the dogs and I managed to get quite a few "seed ticks." We didn't know it until my wife saw a few small black "dots" on the dogs. We initially thought it was flea "poop" because we pulled them off the dogs and my wife mashed one- it left a little red streak. We honestly couldn't see legs or antenna or anything.
Avatar f tn Have been on doxycycline for two weeks and there has been no improvement. Gotten worse. She was on steroids for two days and perked up a bit but then the Vet took her off after tick panel results came back because he was afraid the steriods were keeping the antibiotics from working. I have been pumping her legs and rubbing her muscles. There is still no movement in her legs at all. The Vet said to try one more week then maybe start steriods again.
1699033 tn?1514113133 I know they have treated other dogs for HW with the arsenic shots but have not mentioned treating this particular dog, yet anyway. Does anyone have experience giving your dog Heartguard to stop the juvenile worms and then having your dog outlive the adults? Is there a test that can actually "stage" the heartworm infection?
Avatar n tn How affective is doxycycline 100mg when taken for a period of seven days to cure infections and std's present in the body alone with a shot a penicillin.

Avatar f tn I took Doxycycline for 10 days to treat a sinus infection. A week after finishing the Doxy I developed a sore throat and sore tongue. I'm assuming it is a reaction to the drug. How long will this stay in my system and is there anything I can take to alleviate the reaction?
Avatar n tn I have been on doxycycline an antibiotic for about 5 days and i seem to be feeling very anxious and panic like. Does anyone know if this can cause these symptoms. I am also on 25mg of zoloft. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Avatar f tn Can someone tell me what STDs can be treated with Doxycycline? Can you list all of them please? Thank you.
Avatar m tn I'm currently taking Doxycycline for anti-malaria reasons. I was wondering if it's unsafe to take for 5 consecutive months?
Avatar m tn I have been using doxycycline, I have had trouble urinating still I had oral sex about 3 months ago. First my penis was going numb and then it went away.
Avatar f tn I have horrible acne and was prescribed doxycycline. I take orthrotricyclen, does anyone know if they interfere?
Avatar n tn Most of the tick borne diseases do respond to doxycycline, but Babesia does not respond to doxycycline and must be treated with medications that your dog has not been treated with yet including clindamycin with metronidazole, and others. Another uncommon disease that fits many of Lola's symptoms is canine histiocytosis. There is quite a lot of information about canine histiocytosis in the following Pub Med linked journal article (though it may be a bit technical): http://www.ncbi.
666921 tn?1254990618 Hello 'All' - has anyone noticed an increase in 'herx' symptoms several hours after eating 'onion' - I know garlic can do this. I am back on antibiotics [doxycycline] and have been o.k.'ish untill today - I ate some onion last night and whilst I was preparing it I was wondering to myself if it might have the same affect as garlic! I am going to wait untill I feel o.k. again and try some more to see if I get a reaction. Wishing everyone well.
1518277 tn?1290837469 Normally Erlichia canis infections in dogs are easily treated with the antibiotic doxycycline given twice a day for 3 weeks.
Avatar m tn I also had some doxycycline left over in my house from when my dogs got sick a few months ago. I read that doxycycline can be used to treat the treatable STDs. I began taking 100 mg, twice a day, 2 days ago (got that from online as well). Could the discomfort in my genitalia be a side effect from the doxycycline? Should I continue to take the doxycycline? How long should I take it?
