Common Questions and Answers about Doxycycline cats

My cat was prescribed doxycycline tablets for mycoplasma felis: but was unable to complete the whole course owing to difficulty of swallowing loss of appetite and occasional sickness. Is there a suitable injectable antibiotic that could be given: and how successful are antibiotics in this case,.? Also how can I alleviate the catarrhal and throat symptoms present?

The adult cats are now all on Doxycycline but I was told there's nothing else I can treat the kittens with since they are so young. Now here is my problem... One vet told me that the Doxycycline will cure the Mycoplasma and everyone will be fine. The other vet said that the cats will all become permanent carriers and I should spay/neuter all of my breeders and rehome them if I want to keep breeding.
They gave me a shot that is suppose to kill off any parasites that may have been in the cats claws, and they have started the rabies treatment on me. They gave me 2 shots today, and then I go in on Thursday to get another shot, and then one the following Monday I have to go in and get yet another shot and then another one in 7 more days after that and then I'm done. I hope that cat didn't have it, but the doctor was even shocked that it came after us like that.
He's been to 3 different vets and they give us the same medication - Doxycycline. We know it's time for a refill on the Doxycycline when he starts a coughing jag through his upper palate. Do you know what is wrong with him? Behaviorally, he is a nervous cat. It takes a bit work (sometimes weeks) to get him into his carrier to get to the vets. Otherwise, he loves to be scratched and his tummy rubbed. He has let me pick him up about 5 times since he's been with us (5 years).
then the PCR test was done and results were positive for mycoplasma, so we did 3 weeks on doxycycline (cycle ended yesterday). some improvement, but now more sneezing and still some clear eye discharge. yesterday, our vet recommended 2-3 additional weeks on doxy, told me it could be allergies or just a stubborn mycoplasma infection. if 2-3 more weeks don't stop the symptoms, we could see an internist for a CAT scan and another test to look up the cat's nasal passages. any thoughts?
Realizing that one, it was a REALLY bad idea to have kept them in a large plastic box while we waited for the large cage we ordered, and two, it was in even worse idea to have kept them where we keep our other two cats' litter boxes.
I have been on torbadex, erythromycin, doxycycline, and patanol. Although it looked like it was slightly better after being on the doxy and patanol for 1 month, I had to stop the doxy due to GI problems. I will be seeing the Dr in 2 months, but wanted to get any advice you might have for me and any idea what this could be. Also, I had a culture of both eyes which came back negative. Thanks in advance.
I have a 7 mo old shelter cat who has been examined no less than four times now, by two different vets, for a cloudy area in his eye that has presented recurring issues. He was examined under anesthesia and the pronouncement was congenital corneal adhesion. The problem is that the adhesion seems to want to chronically ulcerate, sometimes seemingly painful with clear tears & a thick mucus, on other occasions with a dark brown discharge.
NO....doxycycline is an antibiotic to fight bacterial infections....cancer is NOT an infection. I am so sorry your kitty's diagnosis...can I ask what type of cancer and where? the very best thing you can do for her yourself if not doing chemotherapy is to feed a very good diet high in protien..good protien in CANNED foods, not meat by-products like most cheaper cat foods have. and preferably one with NO grains...these are just fillers and take away from the amount of protein in the can.
I know that when I was bit by a feral kitten I had both lymph nodes behind my ears swell as well as two additional in my neck area on the right side. They hurt so badly to cough or laugh. A round of Doxycycline cleared it up. Haven't been bitten by any cats right? They hold a lot of bacteria in their mouths as well. You may want to check in with a doctor if able because it could be other things as well..Hope that helps some.

I will post a linkt about banderol and cats claw. By the way it needs to be TAO FREE CATS CLAW. There is a difference between cats claw and TAO FREE CATS CLAW. Read this article.
Thanks Opus. Lilly and I have looked over the links. She is sitting here next to keyboard and purring right now. She says that having plasma cell pododermatitis isn't fun but it isn't too bad. At least she got out of the animal shelter as a kitten after selecting Odin to take her home. Now she has fresh food, a full time servant and numerous retainers. Lilly has agreed to try and eat less fish and more rabbit. Not too difficult as she really likes rabbit.
“They even bled my horses, and my dogs and cats,” the owner of the farm said. “They got to looking at me, and I said, ‘I already gave.’ ” The scientists have been trying to find out how this farmer and another unfortunate Missouri man contracted a severe viral disease — a new one, never seen before. It put both men in the hospital for more than a week with high fevers, diarrhea, nausea, muscle pain, low blood cell counts and liver abnormalities.
- whatever the * that is, or that I may have early onset of a disease called lou gehrig's disease. they put me on doxycycline for about a month (i spent my last $300 bucks) i am poor and unemployed, and currently staying with a friend (wonderful right?) so anyways... i got this cheap herb off the net called cats-claw (yes that makes me instantly a crackpot doesnt it?) anyway, it works for a little while, then you have to take more.
I spoke with my doc and decided to stop taking the Doxycycline just in case it was a reaction to that. Well I stopped the doxycycline 3 days ago - and so far the pain is still there. It comes and goes but it has never been extremely painful. Also, during the time I was taking the antibiotic Doxycycline, I found another lump underneath my right ear... right behind my jaw. Its really hard and not painful. (parotid gland maybe?
Recently, I was put on Allegra D and I just finished my antibiotic (doxycycline) prescription. I have dogs, but my allergies seem to worsen at work or when I do heavy cleaning and dusting. (I have had dogs for the past 11 years with no problems) I use a vaporizor/humidifier. I keep a clean house. I use a HEPA fan at work and home. I guess I'm just frustrated. I can't make plans in any season without worrying about getting sick. Is there something else I should be doing?
I am a 20-year old caucasion female. I went to the doctor, who labeled me from the get go with acne and perscribed doxycycline. This, however, has not worked. Instead of rambling on about EVERYTHING I've tried to cure myself of this condition I am going to bullet a few key points. POSSIBILITIES I'VE ELIMINATED: -Bacterial -Allergy to skin care products (including make-up) -Allergy to food -Allergy to drugs.
She does not have diarrhea. She vomited a number of times last week (she was on doxycycline because she had a UTI and the vet gave her that in case she had leptospirosis. The results of the lepto test turned out negative.) She is not vomiting now and eats and drinks well. Do you think there is anything we can do? I know the numbers are ugly, but she is still wagging her tail and playing with the cats....
So FINALLY I got this letter faxed 2 week ago but only got to see my doctor yesterday. So she has agreed for me to start on doxycycline (I think...I know it is one of the cyclines anyway). I have a script for 2 weeks, to see how it goes and she will give me more as and when I need it. She has NO CLUE ABOUT LYMES, I even printed off a load of information for her, and also about herxing etc. She was amazed at my knowledge and said she needed to do some reading herself...
"My ID doc said no lyme but postitive titers for Q fever." ID docs are known to be great Lyme deniers all too often. Wish I could say I'm surprised, but it seems they will bend over backward not to see the Lyme in front of them. That said, perhaps you do have Q fever too. I don't recall anyone mentioning it here on this site in the several years I've been lurking around, but if Lyme has taught me one thing, it's not to underestimate Mother Nature.
Many thanks to those who tirelessly answer questions here. I am early 40's man. 1 week ago, I received fellatio and had unprotected vaginal sex with woman I know from the gym. ~8 hours after the encounter the tip of my penis felt as though it had been "pinched." 24-48 hours later I had a low-grade fever and the "pinched" feeling had progressed to severe a burning/tingling in the entire penis, combined with a near-constant feeling of having to urinate.
As I found out, I had chlamydia and trichomonias. I read somewhere you could get chlamydia from cats or sauna and things like that, so I took antibiotics hoping that what I have had for years was trich. A week after i took antibiotics, I went to venerologyst and was tested again and event hough I still had the symptoms, the results were negative.
we take him out 3 times a day for long walks and everything was going ok, until a few weeks ago when we noticed pee stain on my pillow and the corner of a couch in the living room we also have two cats. they get along well, but we don't know if this has anything to do with his recent behavior we took him to the vet to check for possible urine problem, but everything was ok healthwise we are running out of things to check. please advice us on this problem.

I came down with a head cold/sinus infection the very next day. I was also taking doxycycline at this point because I feared she may have an STD.
Just think of how many cats owe their now happy existences to you. I believe there's a special place for those who do as you.
Also get a good probiotic, start that right now they are not expensive and you need this good bacteria to get you body ready for abx treatment. I would start on some natural antibiotics like allicilln or cats claw for you immune system. Mangosteen juice is a good one.
i think he caught a chill so i took him to the vet and they gave him ornicure which i beleive is doxycycline the antibiotic. He has it in his water but has not improved much after 5 days. I have moved him near a heater where it is very warm.If i take him to the avian vet is there anything different they can do? i do think it is a respiritatoy infection. He is eating, drinking and playing fine but he does sleep more and his breathing is very heavy.
