A sense of "burning" on the outside of the penis isn't a typical symptom, and having a few white blood cells in the urine is a nonspecific test result. My guess is that your professor/doctor treated you more as a precaution than from definite diagnosis of urethritis -- but you'll have to clarify that part with him or her.

Dear All, Does anyone know whether alcohol decreases the effectiveness of doxycycline? I have read that it is ok to have "a few drinks" when on doxy. What exactly are "a few drinks," if it is ok to consume them while on doxycycline?

I have blepheritis and dry eye and have started a course of this. I have tried many other things and I wonder if this has helped anyone or if the doc could explain how it helps. I am assuming it clears the bacteria with the bleph but can take 6 weeks. Also I have been on many eye meds for this condition and was wondering if any like azasite etc could cause increase in floaters. I have had them dialated 5 times and there is no tear or detatchment.

I'd probably do what you are doing, taking the meds prescribed now, since your current MD seems to believe you have Lyme, and then seeing what the LLMD says when you get there.
