237053 tn?1258832026 anyone have suggestions for supplements and probiotics to an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean> along an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>withan> my antibiotics? My dr has already prescribed a good probiotic that is kept refrigerated, and an high dose of b12. What else? thanks.
Avatar n tn I was just diagnosed an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>withan> lyme disease and will be taking Doxycycline for 30 days. an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan> anyone tell me if I must avoid dairy entirely or just avoid it a couple of hours before and after taking this antibiotics? Thanks.
Avatar m tn I knew that any of the Tetracycline antibiotics, and especially Doxycycline, could have gastro side effects, and I stuck an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>withan> the pills, after contacting my GP who prescribed them. I finished the course, and after three weeks, my digestive system still hadn't normalized. My GP then put me on a 10 day course of Nexium (a proton pump inhibitor) in case I had an ulcer. I took one 40mg tablet per day, as instructed, but this didn't seem to make any difference.
Avatar f tn I was taking 300 mg per day and yes, I am taking probiotics. How long did an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean> the Doxy before those symptoms improved? My joints were actually throbbing and even my feet were itching. So do an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> think it's a herx or is it just a matter of the body getting use to the medication? I read the side effects of doxy and some of these symptoms are listed under adverse reactions which concerns me.
Avatar m tn keep asking questions and thinking over all that has gone on and is going on, and modify an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>r approach as more data comes in. Doxycycline is said to be effective, but only almost immediately after the infection ... and so many of us never know when we were infected. This knee-jerk response by too many MDs is a problem. That an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>r daughter is also having GI problems is something one would hope the MD would an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean> into account and not just let it go on.
Avatar f tn Now in my history I've had problems an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>withan> Gerd and anxiety. So after 2 weeks of advil and antibiotic I'd imagine it could be somewhat irritated but it's been 2 weeks since I have been off an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan> it really be delayed side effects I'm not really belching to get relief or having trouble breathing. I remember it started three nights ago after eating a Greek yogurt then laying down. and I did have trouble breathing but then it settled down.
280418 tn?1306329510 I think my positive western blot sat on my GP's desk for a while too. The nurse kept saying that they hadn't received it and I called IgeneX back and they said he should have gotten it a long time ago...but said they would fax it over before my appointment. SOMEHOW, when I went in for an appointment he had the original copy dated weeks before, folded up like it had been in an envelope. I had been his patient for @ 6 years and never had any problems before all of this.
Avatar f tn Tuesday I went back to the dr and he examined me again and said there was no sign of bv or yeast but that I did still have bacteria and so he prescribed doxycycline an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>hyclatean> and flagyl. I am on day 5 and there is still no improvement of symptoms. When examined he stated both times he did not see any problems on my skin. He did tell me to an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean> probiotics so I've been eating an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>gurt for a few days. any idea what this could be or what I should do?
6402846 tn?1391067348 When an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean> antibiotics, an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>r killing both good and bad bacteria. That's why they say to an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean> probiotics when an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> are on antibiotic therapy. The probiotics help to restore the good bacteria in an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>r intestines. But, of course an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> would want to an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean> the probiotics at least an hour away from when an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean> the antibiotics.
Avatar f tn I'm not sure about whether the probiotics and the antibiotics would basically an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan>cel each other out - it sounds as if it would be logical that they would. an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> may want to call an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>r pharmacist and see what they say - they an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan> quite often be an invaluable tool in answering questions like this. If they say not to an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean> the probiotics, maybe check an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>withan> them about possibly taking another over the counter stomach medication such as prevacid, prilosec, or even tums.
458072 tn?1291418786 My GP had given me so many WRONG antibiotics, that I was reacting to a bunch of them. The other antibiotic that works for me now is Doxycycline and I do 14 days of that. as Pax said....it is imperative that an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> flush an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>r sinuses an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>withan> salt/water combo. I always continue on after antibiotic an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>withan> Oreganol Oil afterwards for a while, and please don't forget an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>r pro-biotics!! an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan> an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean> those vaginally as well so an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> don't get a yeast infection.
Avatar n tn Based on an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>r history of gastrointestinal problems, I would not recommend doxycycline. Doxycycline works well but an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan> cause sun sensitivity and an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan> cause esophageal reflux (~ heart burn or indigestion). Now, we are down to two choices. First, malarone (atovaquone + proguanil). Malarone is an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean>n daily, begun one day prior to arriving in a malarious area, an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean>n every day while exposed to malaria, and then for one week after an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> leave the malarious region.
Avatar n tn I took doxycycline for 4-5 months and my hair began thinning. I had long and extremely thick blonde curly hair but an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>withan> doxycycline i lost more than a fourth of my hair. My hair turned stringy lost its curl pattern and looked awful! Now after 9 months i am watching my hair grow every day. It is so painful to watch because its SO FRIZZY! i have tons of little baby hairs growing in that frizz out around the rest of my hair. They look terrible and i have never had a problem an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>withan> frizz before.
4939681 tn?1361302899 I will try it again tomorrow and see if tomorrow is a good day. I was already on probiotics before taking the doxy and since I store them in the fridge I didn't have them in the pile when I compiled the list, so it was forgotten. Thanks for mentioning it and advising timing on that as well:) My blood calcium is under a separate investigation. It has been in between 10.2-10.5 for nearly a year now. Only slightly above normal but consistent. My parathyroid was suspected to be abnormal.
Avatar f tn I've been doing some reading on Banderol and Samento and am hearing positive things about them. They don't have the side-effects that long-term antibiotics an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan> create. I just wonder if anyone on this forum has any personal experiences to share about them. I've been reading that combined, they an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan> be as effective, if not more so than Doxy in treating all forms of the Bb Spirochete as well as co-infections.
Avatar n tn Plaquenil (Hydroxychloroquine), quinacrine, chloroquine, and primaquin, mefloquine (Lariam), doxycycline (available generically), and the combination of Plaquenil, atovaquone and proguanil?? This is what happens to my child, it is always seasonal; his CRP hates the heat, hot weather, & sun, it responses to Minocycline during the hot summer and sweat, but then transmutes as the weather changes and comes back worst and spreads quickly.
1434731 tn?1382725984 I was prescribed doxycycline to prevent infection. I took it for 3 1/2 days and I felt like complete crap everyday and last night was the worst. I was so neasous and felt horrible. it gave me really really bad anxiety. I almost took myself to the ER ( hubby was drunk sleeping, lol) but I was able to calm myself and get thru the worst before I fell asleep. So now I'm not taking it anymore! My sister also has a hard time an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>withan> "cycline" antibiotics! NO MaS!
Avatar m tn clarithromycin/Biaxin and cefdinir/Omnicef -- 5 months -- drug holiday due to side effects of probiotics--2 months -- for Lyme: Zithromax/azithromycin and Flagyl/metronidazole -- 4 months ------------------------------------------------- This may have been an abbreviated treatment schedule, because I had continuing problems from the probiotics, so my schedule is odd in at least that way.
Avatar f tn I posted back in Sept about having insanely irregular periods and the pill after several months was not able to regulate it. Even though my ultrasound came back showing only one cyst, my doctor swore that I still had PCOS. Since then he ended up putting me on Doxycyline to see if it would help my acne while as well as ordered blood test to check for signs of PCOS.
Avatar n tn she had a full gi scope which ruled out crohn's but her colon and intestine were wholly inflamed. her stool became solid 2 weeks after stopping the doxycycline and remained so for the next 2 months. we had a stool sample that showed calprotectin levels of 500. two weeks ago her stool became liquid again (no blood no cramping). i have been giving her 50 B probiotics/ day and bovine colostrum. unfortunately i also gave her 1 oz/ day "omega swirl" which contains xylitol.
1353650 tn?1429466974 I have been treated an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>withan> doxycycline for 4 months and lyme tests finally showed positive. I had a few herx reactions while on the doxy, one was pretty bad. I have read that microplasma is a possible cause of rheumatoid arthritis and want to know if I should continue taking the doxy. My lyme md wants to put me on I.V. Rocephin and oral zithromax for lyme. Should I check further into microplasma before being treated for lyme? or an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan> the I.V. help both?
Avatar f tn My mouth was extremely dry and irritated and white tongue and white near my tonsils. on 12/10/13 i returned to the ER and he prescribed Doxycycline an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>hyclatean> MG and Clotrinazole Troche 10 MG. my head ache, fatigue is gone. Now i have painful tiny clear blisters near my tonsils. I also have white on the back sides of my mouth and white tongue. The medication is gradually helping but not as fast as i wish. i feel something is stuck on my throat. an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan> an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> tell me what is occurring?
Avatar m tn The mainstream docs then often imply heavily (or just come out and say) that (1) the Lyme docs who use IGeneX tests are hoodwinking their patients into taking more than the old 'standard' treatment of a couple weeks of doxycycline, and (2) after doxy treatment, the patient must then cured no matter how bad s/he still feels. [The politics of Lyme are ugly, and it's quite personal on the part of the non-ILaDS docs. Why?
Avatar n tn For the past year, I have been experiencing burning and stinging in my vulva (which is NOT made worse by peeing), which comes and goes but an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan> last for over a month and is extremely uncomfortable. The area looks normal, and there is no unusual discharge. The last time I had these symptoms was in March - they came on suddenly an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>withan> a stinging sensation, and lasted for 6 weeks.
Avatar f tn Hello Everyone, Over the past 3 years my health has been declining and I've developed multiple conditions. My doctor recently checked my c4a levels and they came back really high and now he suspects that I may have lyme disease. I have the following conditions and symptoms (all have developed an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>withan>in the past 3 years): autoimmune thyroiditis (elevated Tg and very high TPO). Interstitial cystitis. Chronic dehydration (I drink lots of water but it doesn't seem to help).
Avatar f tn I got a bad systemic yeast infection from the particular probiotics I was taking, and had to stop feeding the yeast an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>withan> sugar (from fruit etc.) and absolutely no junk food. Sounds boring, but it was better than being sickly all the time. Do talk an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>withan> an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>r doc about what vitamins and supplements an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean> ... some are very useful and others are not .... tho some docs are just not interested in vits and supps, tho.
Avatar m tn I am an avid runner and biker. I have always an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean>n care of my diet and eat as fresh and as healthily as possible. Before now I have had a bowel movement 3 times per day. about 4 months go I began having bouts of severe constipation that last between 7 and 10 days. I have had xrays and a CT done and they say everything is fine. The only thing that happened prior to these bouts of constipation is that I got a severe infection following a tetanus shot. It was so bad I could not move my arm.
Avatar f tn The dr prescribed omega 3's and probiotics and already the swelling has come down all together. She an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan> now move her feet and toes where before she had no feeling in her feet and she could feel the water. It was horrible. So we are taking it day by day right now. Thanks to all for an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>r responses.
