Avatar n tn I took single dose of doxycycline everyday for 6 weeks during the summer. Would that have cleared a chamydia infection.
Avatar n tn Based on your history of gastrointestinal problems, I would not recommend doxycycline. Doxycycline works well but can cause sun sensitivity and can cause esophageal reflux (~ heart burn or indigestion). Now, we are down to two choices. First, malarone (atovaquone + proguanil). Malarone is taken daily, begun one day prior to arriving in a malarious area, taken every day while exposed to malaria, and then for one week after you leave the malarious region.
Avatar m tn I am visiting Laos/Thailand in Jan 2011 and I have been advised to take anti-malaria tablets while there called Doxycycline. Does anyone know if there is any interaction between these two drugs? Can it make one or the other not work as effectively? Thanks.
Avatar n tn Doxycycline 100 mgm by mouth twice/day for 6 weeks and then once/day for 3-6 months is a common treatment of blepharitis and meibomian gland disease. It is not so much antibacterial as antiinflammatory and gets into the oild gland. That's the reason its also used for acne. There is a new product that is specific for blepharitis but I don't have the details or brand name. None of these cause floaters.
Avatar n tn what i meant those with malaria should use artesunate instead of chlorquine or a mix of the two drugs so they may attack both malaria and hbsag.
Avatar n tn Well, hey! Good to hear from you. My LLMD treated the babesiosis first, and the mepron/zith did the trick. I was way better just getting rid of the babs. I haven't heard or read much of anything about lariam (aka Mefloquine) ... but I just looked it up on wikipedia (however trustworthy that is or isn't), and found some interesting stuff: "Mefloquine is used to prevent malaria (malaria prophylaxis) and also in the treatment of chloroquine-resistant falciparum malaria. ...
Avatar m tn And to add to that, doxycycline does not treat ALL std's
Avatar f tn Have been on doxycycline for malaria prevention. After shaving my scrotum and penis I developed redness on the scrotum. It doesn't appear as a typical rash. There are no bumps or raised skin or edges. Red skin that is dry (initially flaky), itchy, warm to the touch, sensitive and skin appears thin. After a few days the redness spread to the penis and now the tip of my penis (penile ring) is red and sensitive.
Avatar f tn I was recently traveling and have been taking 100mg of Doxycycline per day as an anti malarial drug. First dose was taken on March 4th. On March 17-18 I had an episode of travelers diarrhea (as did at least 50% of my fellow travelers, so it must have been something at the hotel breakfast or restaurant we ate at for lunch the day before). Shortly thereafter, around March 29th, I came down with a common cold. My poor body feels like a war zone!!!
Avatar m tn and I still have them since returning home two weeks ago. I was taking Doxycycline for malaria prevention, for about 30 days, and stopped about a week ago. Reaction to the meds? Nasty tropical disease?
Avatar f tn I had babesiosis -- it's first cousin to malaria, and comes and goes like malaria as the bugs go through their life cycle. It does not respond to the same meds as Lyme. I saw at least one infectious disease MD who missed diagnosing both the Lyme and the babesia, along with about 20 other highly trained docs I saw at some first class medical centers. Docs just aren't trained to be aware of this stuff.
Avatar f tn As I was washing my hands I noticed a prescription bottle with the medication om it Doxycycline. I paniced and left without confronting her in person, sent a text after that she has not responded to. Please help, I know oral is not 0 risk, what am I at risk for?
Avatar m tn I then went to Asia travelling for 3 months where I took 100mg Doxycycline every day for about 60 - 70 days (for malaria). Since then I had unprotected vaginal sex again about 4 weeks ago (only time since last time). I had a couple of symptoms and then got diagnosed with Chlamydia. My questions are: a) Would the Doxycyxline have cleared up any Chlamydia (if present) prior to Asia. Given that I had no symptoms before recently.
Avatar n tn I have been off doxycycline for 2 months now and my hair is still thinning. Can anyone tell me how long it will continue to fall out? I don't think my hair loss is as extreme as some that have posted here but I have lost alot of hair in the past two months. I did contact my doctor and I got a similar response as others on the forum. I really don't have any idea of what to do next. Started taking a biotin supplement and probiotics to help with restoring the good bacteria in my body.
Avatar n tn Malaria infection in pregnant women can be more severe than in nonpregnant women. Malaria can increase the risk for adverse pregnancy outcomes, including prematurity, spontaneous abortion, and stillbirth. For these reasons, and because no chemoprophylactic regimen is completely effective, women who are pregnant or likely to become pregnant should be advised to avoid travel to areas with malaria transmission if possible (see Chapter 8, Pregnant Travelers).
Avatar n tn My 11 year old son suffered a local seizure in left leg followed by a general seizure in 3 hrs. he was suffering frm high fever and was on malaria drug along with doxycycline. his reports like MRI, veinography, CFS, EEG AND OTHER BLOOD TESTS R NORMAL.what could be the reason of seizure? will it repeat. what r the precautions to be taken.
Avatar m tn I then went to Asia travelling for 3 months where I took 100mg Doxycycline every day for about 60 - 70 days (for malaria). Since then I had unprotected vaginal sex again with a girl about 4 weeks ago (only time since last time). I had a couple of symptoms and then got diagnosed with Chlamydia. My questions are: a) Would the Doxycyxline have cleared up any Chlamydia (if present) prior to Asia. Given that I had no symptoms before recently.
Avatar m tn Went to the doctor and she said it looked like an abrasion. She gave me bacitracin and a moisturizer. It went away in about a week. A week or two later another one showed up in a different location but the same general area. Used the ointments and it went away. Almost 3 months after that another one showed up, went to a different doc, he said it was ring worm, gave me clomitrazole. It went away in about four weeks. He also said it did not resemble an STD.
Avatar n tn I recently took a three week cycle of Doxycycline for an overseas trip, to prevent malaria, would this kill a bacteria infection? Do you recomend a examination by a Urologist? Thank You!
Avatar n tn I am a 30 year old female and have a question concerning Malaria. I just returned last Sunday (3/23) from a week in Honduras where I spent most of my time on the Bay Island of Roatan with my husband who is 33. We did not take an anti-malarial pill before going, but began taking Chloroquine given to us by another traveler.
Avatar m tn On the day after the incident I began to take 100mg of doxycycline hyclate twice a day for malaria prevention purposes and wondered if that might be the cause. I feel, however, that I am clutching at straws now.
Avatar m tn Dear Doctor I'm concerned about my hiv results at 13 weeks.. First of all, I had a low exposure to the disease ( briefly performed oral sex on a woman who's HIV status is unknown). I took a Ora Quick Advance hiv anti body test and the results were negative.. I read that if you do a test after 13 weeks the accuracy will be 99%.
