Avatar f tn I read last nt that the antibiotic he is on, Doxycycline Hyclate has this happen a lot if you do not drink a lot of water with it AND sit upright for 30 min after, neither which he did the other night. I read that it irritates the esophagus when this haopens. I gave him Tums last night and he started taking Zantac today. He said that it is not burning as much but is just pretty bothersome when swallowing. Anyone know of anything else to do for this or how long this will last? Thanks!
Avatar f tn The doc said that when doxycycline does not get all the way down, perhaps stuck in the throat, it creates esophagitis, or can even ulcer in the esophagus. Make sure you drink tons of liquid when taking, and do not lie down for atleast an hour after taking. Hopefully it will reside.
Avatar f tn I self diagnosed myself (not a doctor) with esophagitis ever since I noticed three days ago a burning sensation in my throat, I was having difficulty swallowing and it felt like my upper chest was burning. I looked up the symptoms and traced the cause to be the doxycycline pill I had four days ago before I slept, which I downed without water. I’m worried I will have to get an endoscopy and I would like to solve this without having to get a doctor involved. Is this possible?
Avatar m tn Thanks for your care and concern. Looking into my medical record I had this symptoms last year and I was also in doxycycline for twelve days. My little problem has been diagnosed as Esophagitis which has been documented as one of the side effects of doxi. Every symptom was pinpointed completely as described in a journal article. Your advice is noted for future discussion with my MD.
Avatar m tn I just ran a a google search for 'doxycycline cardiac effects,' and virtually nothing turned up. Apparently this drug is almost never involved in that. However, it IS often associated with esophagitis (inflammation of the swallowing tube), which patients feel as chest pain, especially right behind the breastbone, as described here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15230733 You should call your doc and report this.

Avatar f tn Stopped taken the doxycycline and started to have chest pain went to a+e ecg performed, results normal i was sent home saying it was muscular pain. The pain has'nt fully subsided and currently being treated for acid reflux Have any body else had this problem with this drug?
1068682 tn?1255468934 //www.mypacs.net/cases/DOXYCYCLINE-INDUCED-ESOPHAGITIS-173438.html. That antibiotic was doxycycline for my skin for bites. The page cleared me about what happened to me. So it's not the tablet stuck anywhere again, but the hurt was becoz of my esophagus' tissue was damage. I just took Mylanta and didn't help much. The next day, Monday, i met a doctor and he gave me 2 tablets to drink for 2 days, and he said time will recover the tissue back.
Avatar m tn Hi, I am 53 and have had on/off GERD symptoms- sometimes severe- for about 17 years. About 2 years ago I had an endoscopy done and was diagnosed with chronic mild esophagitis and they gave me 40 mg of omeprazole for 8 weeks. After that, I started on 20 mg every day and have been on that dose regularly and still had a day or two every couple of weeks with a GERD flair up. About 3 weeks ago I developed some lower GI issues with constipation, nausea, cramps, and was pretty sick for 2 weeks.
Avatar n tn I have had severe GERD off and on since 2006 and YES the pain can and does radiate to the upper/midback in many people.Just Google GERD and back pain and see how many others have this same pain.I believe Mayo Clinic's website mentions back pain referral in their description of esophagitis. My heart has been extensivley tested for heart disease and it has been ruled out.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, Shortly after the birth of my second child I started to experience burn/dull ache in my chest, along with major weight loss- i had a c-section and was on pain killers, not sure this was the culprit. I had a scope and was diagnosed with esophagitis. Thing is before the diagnosis I never had any heartburn or signs of discomfort- it literally came of of nowhere.
Avatar m tn is esophagitis hiv related? cause today they found out after endoscopy and colonscopy they did to me!!
Avatar m tn Listed right under causes on this website http://www.medicinenet.com/eosinophilic_esophagitis/article.htm#what_is_and_what_causes_eosinophilic_esophagitis I developed a breathing issue in May 13', by July 13' I had an endoscopy performed and they found signs of Eosinophilic Esophagitis, , , finally by Nov 13' I realized that I had not been tested for Herpes back in May when all of it started, and found out I was Herpes + (both 1 and 2). To this day I have NEVER had an outbreak.
Avatar f tn This is not a question so much as info to be added to the ongoing discussion. I too have experienced hives followed by painful daily/nightly bouts of acid reflux and belching. I've lost 8 pounds in a week due to nausea. I was tested for H. pylori(negative), lipase and cbc both normal. As a precaustion my doctor gave me a 10 day round of meds for systemic yeast. I also had a cat scan and that was normal.
Avatar n tn I am trying to find answers to resistant h.pylori, eosinophilic esophagitis, and severe acid reflux. Antibiotics, steriods, prevacid, and several other medications were used to no avail. The esophogal lining is severely decreased... Vomiting and stomach upset are prevalent. I'm looking for dos and donts for these conditions and any successful treatments. Thank you!
Avatar m tn Now I am confused, how come the LPR is only starting now and not 2 months ago together with my reflux esophagitis? And how come it only begin after I started treatment for my reflux esophagitis? And why is it that even though my reflux esophagitis symptoms are cleared, only then do the LPR symptoms appear? I read in some websites that when you cut down on PPI's, there is a rebound which causes more acid to be produced compared to pre-PPI. Is this what is happening?
Avatar n tn I've had on-and-off mild nausea, including two episodes of vomitting. To check for possible gallbladder problems I had an abdominal ultrasound. The report showed a normal gallbladder but "inhomogeneous pancreas". The doctor has ordered amylase, lipase, and liver function blood work. I have been on proton pump inhibitors for years for GERD and eosiniphilic esophagitis. It's weeks before I can see the gastroenterologist.
Avatar n tn Hello, I cannot think of any condition associoated with both urticaria and difficulty swallowing except eosinophilic esophagitis. Symptoms of EE can range from severe heartburn, difficulty swallowing, food impaction in the esophagus, nausea, vomiting and weight loss to urticarial rash.Mostly, patients with eosinophilic esophagitis suffer from food allergies also. Diagnosis is obtained during an upper GI endoscopy where biopsies are taken of the esophagus.
Avatar n tn You may be experiencing gastritis, esophagitis, gallbladder issues, and even pancreatic issues, among others, given the description and timing. (I'd be inclined to think either gastritis/esophagitis (including heartburn) or gallbladder issues, though those tend to be a bit off center. In any case, I highly recommend you go to a gastroenterologist and check yourself out.
Avatar f tn Thank you. Which alkaline powder should I buy? I do have a juicer. I'll definitely juice the celery. I'm frazzled right now and it seems the esophagitis is only getting worse because I can't totally get rid of the reflux, even with Aciphex. Any help is so appreciated.
Avatar f tn Non-erosive esophagitis disease (NERD) may be the most 'common' form of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) considering what some research results are suggesting. Most people with NERD are defined as those having the classic symptoms of GERD without showing any evidence of esophageal mucosal (lining) injury.
