Avatar n tn Hi aliparkone, If she has undergone a laparoscopic surgery, the recovery time is faster. She can go home in 2-3 days. She might have pain at the surgery site for which pain killers can be taken.Generally a semi-solid diet is presribed from the 2nd or 3rd day during the first week. If the semi-solid diet is tolerated well, then other foods can be slowly introduced. This usually takes 2-3 weeks.Complete recovery takes 2-3 weeks.
Avatar m tn Double check. About 70 percent of hernia surgeries are outpatient. How old is your sibling?
Avatar n tn I had double hiatia hernia surgery in Sept. 2006. My recovery was fine and within the year i lost 100 pounds and have kept it off. The other day I was sick and coughing a lot. All at once it felt like my somach ripped open inside. the pain was horrible for about 10 to 15 minutes. I couldn't stand up staight. Just as I called my husband home to take me to the hospital it started to loosen up and ease off.
Avatar m tn My question is what will the recovery be like. I looked up the recovery for a gallbladder surgery and recovery for hiatal hernia repair and I think I am in for a lot of pain and weight loss. the weight loss I can take. But the pain I am not looking forward to. I will be home during the day by myself. Would I be able to take care of myself and what will the recovery be like. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
Avatar n tn t bad, I still had pain but thought it was from surgery as the doc said I had a lot of adhesions. At the end of two hours in surgery the doc had to call in a second surgeon, it took them four and 1/2 hours to complete the surgery. I woke up crying in pain and it continues.
Avatar n tn This can be repaired through surgery. Recovery time varies depending on the size of the hernia, the technique used, age and presence of underlying medical condition. However, a hernia can recur up to several years after repair. I hope this helps. 329994 tn?1301663248 I tried to eat solid food and that has not set well on my stomach, very nauseous, so I am gone back to drinking Boost, eating soup, soft foods and that sets better on my stomach, but does not produce a bowel movement. Is this normal after surgery and will it just take more time. I also have a hiatel hernia and take Prilosec 20mg/day. Thank you for any help.
Avatar f tn This was my second surgery (first... removal of ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids). My recent surgery was also to repair a small hernia and removing bowel adheshions (scar tissue). Both are believed to be a result of my first surgery - possibly returning to work and daily activity too soon. I have 2 questions? First, what is a recommend timeframe to resume daily activities (I.e.driving,etc.). My tentative return tobwork dare isn't until July. And...
5959600 tn?1377396574 My boyfriend had double hernia surgery in the beginning of February, it's going on September and just recently he's had swelling of the veins that go into his sac, he said its very painful and it's followed by lower abdominal pain. Could this be serious and is there a certain type of doctor he should see rather than a regular check up doctor at a clinic?
433485 tn?1321813390 I have not had the operation, and I looked to see if we had a forum for folks with hernias, but, it looks like we don't. I would do a google search on umbilical hernias and surgery, you should hopefully be able to find something that will be helpful. Sorry that I can not help you more.
478868 tn?1209031705 Hi Gail, As a nurse in the recovery room, I see incisional hernias all the time. The hernia develops from a weakness in the wall of the muscle that was cut for your original surgery. Alot of times if it is bothersome or large enough, they will take you back to surgery, may place some mesh against the muscle to reinforce it and it can be day surgery. Most can do it laparoscopically, so less recovery time in the hospital.
Avatar f tn I had a double hernia surger (lower abdomen & between my ribs) both on top of old scars. Now, 8 months later, I have had an Ultrasound, CT, MRCP all indicating Chronic Pancretitis. I am scheduled for an ERCP. I am not nor have been a drinker and I have had no trauma to my abdomen (except the hernia surgery. I don't feel as if I fully recovered from the hernia surgery. Could a hernia surgery or the scar tissue from that lead to pancretitis or dammage to my pancrease?
2042217 tn?1336527852 You may leave the same day but if the hernia was large you may be asked to stay in hospital for aday. After surgery your vital parameters will be monitored and depending on the parameters you will be discharged. Once back home avoid lifting or strenuous exercise for at least the first two weeks, light exercise like walking can be done. The recovery time varies person to person and depends on your general health condition and extent of hernia.
454221 tn?1259445739 The risk of blood clots exits, but with an experienced surgeon, use of intermittent calf compression boots at surgery, relatively short operative time, and early ambulation, I have not seen this complication in over twenty years. Occasional seromas and minor wound healing issues are more common. Recovery time is usually about two weeks.
Avatar f tn Hi, 6 years ago i had my 2nd child and developed an umbilical hernia, which i had surgery for the repair. I now have had a 3rd baby - 5 months now- and have the umbilical hernia has returned.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, A bit of background...I have a 7-8cm cyst on my left ovary. CA125 of 10, ultrasound shows no sign of a malignancy, so they are not too concerned about that. Dr. I was seeing wasn't confident in doing a cyst this size laparoscopically so he referred me to another Dr who is apparently an "expert" in removing large cysts like this by "bagging" it and removing it that way through the tiny incision instead of having open surgery.
Avatar n tn My son has had strabimus surgery 4 days ago, this is his second surgery, this time his eye was drifting only slightly outwards. Now after surgery his eye is facing extremely inward. I did after surgery say that it looked very inward to the surgeon and he said like others have said that he would want a slight over correction as it will adjust. My concern is that this looks drastically over corrected as it is now sat in the corner.
1570782 tn?1296689507 Hey Everyone! I'm new to this whole forum thing, but I thought I'd give it a try. I was just wondering for those of you who've had surgery, how long your recovery has been? I just recently had the surgery and I'm having a hard time dealing with the after math. I am here to find some friends to talk to who are going through the same thing as me. Please feel free to talk with me anytime.
Avatar f tn I am having surgery to repair a Hiatal Hernia. Has anyone had this done recently? What can I expect? Is it in and out surgery, how long were you out of work, what could you eat, etc.?
Avatar f tn At the End of last August (so just under 6 months ago), I have surgery to repair an orbital blow out fracture. Prior to the surgery, I had double vision when looking up or down (not in primary position, but extended gaze). Now, at nearly 6 months after the operation, I still have a little double vision when looking up (extended gaze). Is this likely to improve further over time, or is this pretty much how it will always be? Any comments appreciated.
Avatar n tn 2. What can I do to prepare before and after the surgery to help witht the recovery process. 3. May I still be excercising such as 1 hr. walks and situps/crunches before the surgery? and 4. Are there any special bands or wraps such as a girdle to help keep my organs in and my body in shape?
Avatar n tn You need to see an ophthalmologist ASAP. Ask your family MD or the neurosurgeon to refer you to one quickly. Patching is not good therapy as it can hamper recovery and cause contraction of the eye muscles. Many of these cases improve over 3-6 months. Prism glasses are a "crutch" that impedes recovery when used this soon after the stroke; both prisms and any surgery (difficult to fix with surgery) are usually delayed 4-6 moths.
