Avatar m tn IV doses of both metronidazole and tidazole have not been shown to increase their effectiveness. Oral dosing is still preferred as the treatment route. High doses of these drugs can be toxic. If you have a resistent strain of trichomonas, there are ,unfortunately, no good further options for treatment. Some trichomonas infections will resolve over time. I wish you luck with this.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with Trich after being infected for well over a year with it.. when finally treated with metronidazole it did clear up the infection but I think becuase it went untreated for so long it did permanent damage to my prostate....
Avatar f tn Last year in October I got Trichomoniasis from my ex. I took the antibiotic metronidazole to get rid of it. All my symptoms went away, the itching, green discharge, burning, all of it. Annoyingly enough now every time I get my period, I start itching really bad. No weird discharge or bumps just really itchy vagina. It happens every time, around the same time of the month. I have never had this problem before the trichomoniasiss. Has this happened to anyone else? Could the std have came back.
Avatar m tn You are correct, PAP smears are not particualrly reliable for dianosis of trichomoniasis.
Avatar f tn I have taken three rounds of the single dose. Twice of Metronidazole and once for Tindamax. Then a couple weeks later Metronidazole twice a day for seven days. I saw no change in my symptoms. When I realized that I wasn't getting better I went back to my obgyn, thats when they told me again that its "inactive". I told her I didn't know what that meant and she said that it means its not moving and said its like little spores of trich.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with trich at the end of June I got it in April. They gave me two mega doses (metronidazole 4 pills at once) and then those did not work for me at all, they then prescribed me a weeks worth of the same medication, I can tell the medicine works while I am on it but two days after stopping it my symptoms all return. My doctor does not believe me anymore she thinks I’m reinfecting myself over and over but that’s so not true, I haven’t had sex since I first got this in April.
Avatar f tn I have a very raw almost a burning feeling at all times that seems to be more noticable after my menstruation....and also, I already took 3 doses of 2g metronidazole total, one in february once they told me I had bacterial vaginosis, one in march and the last one a month ago when they noticed a possible trichomonads in my wet mount. I am desperate..any advice would be really appreciated..
Avatar f tn I was given metronidazole for the second time (same dosage). Its been just recently when I went to visit the same doct. And. He tested me again due to my persistent symptoms. Agan negative results of culture and this time I was given tinidazole 2 g one dose. The man I had intercourse with said he was tested for chlam and gonorrhea with negative results but was never tested for trich because he says he is symptoms free.
Avatar n tn Also I read that when people have this hard of time getting rid of it an option for them is to get an iv dose of metronidazole. Is that true? And should I ask the dr about that? And am I going to die from this?
Avatar f tn So i went to another doctor and she gave me double dose of ceftriaxone injection and an oral medication of doxycycllin for a week. It went out for 3 days but then it just came back again. I applied for a job abroad expecting that i will fail my medical test. But it turned out that all test is normal and i got the job. So now im here in saudi and ive been living with this mystery for 4 years now. I am working in a clinic but i cant submit my self for check up because im single.
Avatar n tn My wife tested positive for Trichomoniasis on a PAP Smear. Her dr wants to re test her in two weeks to see if it is a fale postive. We both have been faithful what are the chance this was a fales postive.
Avatar m tn What would be a possible course of treatment for the Metronidazole-resistant Trich? I read, that perhaps Tinidazole would be the next choice of drug? If yes, what dosage should be effective? Question 5: I tried to comb through the net to find anything about after how much time the symptoms of Trich should start disappearing when treated with drugs? (Non of the countless sites mention that at all). Thank you very much in advance for your help.
Avatar m tn She did not do a culture for trich, just diagnosed it based on me having a strawberry cervix. I did a course of 1 day of the antibiotic metronidazole. I have been in a monogamous relationship with my husband for 10 years. I've read a lot about it and I realize it could have been asymptomatic for a long time, but I'm wondering if she misdiagnosed me. Thanks for the input!
Avatar m tn I came back in and was tested Trichomoniasis gonorrhea, and chlamydia while being prescribed metronidazole and azithromycin as prophylactic. I am on day 3 of 7 of the new meds and again all the test came back negative but I still have dysuria. In addition this morning while urinating I had what looked like a little tiny clear sack of liquid come out of my penis with a drop or two of blood. I am almost certain this was a cyst from a water borne parasite but I am no doctor.
Avatar f tn The characteristic symptom of trichomoniasis infection is a heavy, frothy, yellow-green, fishy-smelling discharge from the vagina. The infection can also cause discomfort during sex, vaginal itching, pain when passing urine and occasionally stomach pains. It is diagnosed by pelvic examination, swabs of the discharge and their culture sensitivity.
Avatar f tn Since you might have a slightly resistant strain, it would be reasonable for him to also receive several days of metronidazole or tinidazole, instead of a single dose. But these treatments should take care of it. As to when you originally were infected with trich, it is really impossible to know. It could even have been well before November 2009. Discuss this with your NP and let me know if you have any further questions. But don't let this bother you much.
Avatar n tn I have been taking metronidazole for six days now and still have a discharge. I still have one more day of meds, but should the discharge be gone or does it take awhile to clear up? This discussion is related to Resistant trichomoniasis.
Avatar m tn t give me the metronidazole because I tested negative for trichomoniasis. I took the azithromycin 4 tablets in one dose on only one day. If U. urealyticum has colonized wouldn't it take longer than one day of treatment for me to be cleared of it? But with him taking both, I don't know which med is clearing his symptoms. It could be the metronidazole which would also cure Gardnerella vaginalis. I guess the biggest question I have is that if it were U. urealyticum, G.
Avatar f tn Hi im 9 weeks pregnant and I was diagnosed with trichinosmas recently and I'm on metronidazole (flagyl) 500 mg for 7 days I take every 12 hours. I've read nothing but bad about it and it freaks me out so I stopped taking it after 2 doses, so I'm asking is this safe to take while in the first trimester and if not would taking only 2 pills be enough to harm my unborn fetus?
Avatar n tn Hi, Are you having any itching, irritation, or a bad odor? It could be a type of infection and I'd see a doctor just to make sure and to get the proper meds., if needed.
Avatar n tn Thanks for your answer. I just looked at my lab results. From my last visit, directly reading from it, there were no yeast or trich. Clue cells were more than or equal to 20%, moderate wbc count, positive whiff test, and my pH was 6.0. This is why I'm confused. If the wet mount doesn't indicate trich, why is my wbc count still elevated? I've been given metronidazole for the millionth time this year for both trich and this last time for BV, but it still didn't help.
Avatar m tn Ketoconazole is therapy for fungal (yeast) infections, not for trichomoniasis. Metronidazole, which you took is the appropriate therapy. Alternately there is a drug called tinidazole which is also highly effective for treatment of trich. That your tests were negative is not suprising. As your doctor correctly told you, trich is difficult to diagnose in men. Treating you was the right thing to do.
