905197 tn?1282232033 I was just going to ask everyone that would to pray for me and the baby, my husband has just been diagnosed with swine flu!!!! I just got out of the hospital last week after getting a virus and being dehydrated, and not even two days later my hubby started coughing and running a fever, the minute the fever started I got a bag and packed my stuff and went to my moms till he got to a doc. My doctor started me on tamiflu when he got his results back just to be safe so I dont get it!!!!
551343 tn?1506830518 Supposedly a temp of 38 or above is a hallmark sign of swine flu. My mum had everything else but the temp and was given tamiflu. For three days she slept in bed, looked really poorly and had sips of drinks. By the third day she began to improve. At the moment she's poorly in bed again with a throat and chest infection. I think everybody should be checked for swine flu. My neuro put me on amantadine for fatigue, this was one of the first anti virals that came out for flu.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know how old are the stocked Tamiflu and Relenza antivirals that the U.S. plans to use if this swine flu worsens? See my post above; if we don't know whether Tamiflu or Relenza past their expiration date [2 years for tamiflu] have still any efficacy, and we don't know how old or new the U.S. stockpiled quantities of these drugs are, then how do we know whether (or rather, to what degree) they are effective?
167 tn?1374173817 The first thing to do is check your symptoms, to see if it really is swine flu (H1N1). The symptoms are similar to those of ordinary flu: • sometimes but not always fever • tiredness • cough • headache • muscles and joint pain. H1N1 flu can also cause: • acute abdominal pain • diarrhea • vomiting • sore throat • runny nose A fever caused by H1N1 flu can be very high: if you have regular flu your fever is unlikely to go above 39 degrees C (102.2 degrees F).
Avatar f tn i was about 7 weeks pregnant and went to the ER,they said they werent sure if i had the swine flu or flu but not sure so they treated me for the swine flu anyways because i was pregnant, they gave me tamiflu....i wanted to know if there was any risks to the baby from having the flu or from the tamiflu?
Avatar n tn hi... i have recently been diagnosed with swine flu and am on tamiflu (with two days of the course left to go) I have also got some kind of chest infection on top on this and my doctor has given me prednisolone steroid tablets and an inhaler. the chest infection is not getting any better (cant get in touch with my doctor till monday now) what is worrying me today is that my breathing is still bad..and any slight movements walking leads to coughing and lack of breath....today though..
Avatar m tn Tamiflu as I understand it was used for the Swine Flu. So it is not likely to work if you have a different strain of the influenza virus. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
1052300 tn?1262940306 Glad you are going in to get checked out. Weird that they are putting the two with swine flu on Tamiflu. I read that doesn't work for H1N1, but I guess they know best! It doesn't sound like you have many symptoms so far, so try to stay calm... I'm betting it's just a reaction to the vaccine...
599170 tn?1300973893 Hi Zodiacqueen, This is unethical because it will take away medication that is needed for people who have Swine flu. I think Dr. Choi mentioned this in one of his blogs.
939489 tn?1260887943 I am so sorry to hear that you have the swine flu. I have the regular flu, but they were concerned because of my shortness of breath. that has subsided for the most part. I feel miserable, and I can not imagine how you must feel. I hope you get better soon. and just an update on myself. My fever broke around 2am, and it return approx 2pm today. *****. was wishing for the best. I hope to get over this darn thing sooner than later.
982641 tn?1252025412 So the CDC came out yesterday with their recommendation that Pregnant women be the first group to get vaccinated because 13% of the people that have died of swine flu in the US have been pregnant women (much higher than in the overall population). They plan to have the swine flu vaccine (H1N1) ready in October some time.
Avatar f tn I agree with whitie the major concern is children 5 to 17, secondly 5 and under, and thirdly pregnant women....... hardly the pattern we have seen with the normal flu. It is really important for everyone to get the "real facts" of how serious the swine flu is to the general population.... gosh I live in WA and one of our colleges of which many of my friends have children that attend and I have been around 2K of 9K tested positive for swine flu which made national news..
Avatar n tn It helps to reduce the severity of symptoms and shortens the duration of the flu. This is also preventative for any complications that may arise with severe flu symptoms.
764229 tn?1322519884 i went to the er when 7 weeks preg. and they said since im preg and think its the flu or swine flu, they treated me for the swine and being pregnant does make it worse...i was so sick and didnt want to go anywhere for about 2 weeks, and if they perscribed you tamiflu...that made me start throwing up....i hope all is well and you get feelin better sooner.
457721 tn?1256640798 I am being treated for it right now with Tamiflu...and I am absolutely miserable. Obviously, I am VERY worried about the potential complications it can cause during pregnancy. :( My doctor is most worried about dehydration, since I am already having preterm contractions and we obviously want to avoid delivering too early. Just thought I would see if any one else is experiencing/experienced this!
Avatar n tn I received my swine flu vaccine yesterday and I'm glad tha I did.
Avatar n tn I never heard of high dose and regular dose flu vaccine! Truth, getting the actual flu is rare. It sure stinks when you get it but most people have it one or two times in a LIFETIME. And NOW we have tamiflu. I'm sure if there are two options, I've only gotten the regular flu vaccine. I'm in my 50's. Two years ago, my son was very sick with a 105 temp. I took care of him and we went to the doctor in the morning.
1029233 tn?1263966032 I went home on anti-viral meds safe for pregnancy and I had a phone call a couple of days later to say I tested positive for the H1N1 swine flu. I was stunned as all I had experienced was flu sympotoms. Nothing stood out as life-threatening. As the doc on the phone told me - ''you're just like 98 % of the population who make a recovery after having what are flu symptoms.'' My baby was fine. I was ill for a few days but coughing over a few weeks. It was no big deal.
Avatar n tn Would herpes cause strong flu symptoms without the sores? my doc recons i should take tamiflu as it sounds like swine/seasonal flu. hope it is! am of course goin for a sexual health screen but have been recommended to wait 2 weeks as things wont show before this.. so in the meantime.. i'm gettin a little worried. :( any advice would be very helpful. also.. any other stds cause these kinda reactions? Thanks in advance!
765070 tn?1384869794 so on Shepherd Smith they just had a teen on that was quarintined at home that has the swine flu and spoke to him via phone. The teen said that he had a fever of 102 for 1 day and mild symptoms and that thay are totally making this more severe than what it really is. He is taking tamiflu and is not allowed by the CDC that he is not allowed to leave his home until Monday. So, finally we heard from someone with this.
Avatar f tn 1% of the population, 6% of deaths with the H1N1 flu virus. I got the vaccine over 2 weeks ago at the end of my 1st trimester, and had absolutely no side effects. I feel very relieved that I and my unborn child are now protected.
Avatar f tn I had both the seasonal flu shot and the H1N1 shot. No problems with either.
168348 tn?1379357075 The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the use of one dose of 2009 H1N1 flu vaccine for persons 10 years of age and older. In addition to protecting pregnant women from infection, infants less than 6 months old will not be able to be vaccinated so it is recommended that everyone who lives with or provides care for infants less than 6 months of age receive both the seasonal influenza vaccine and 2009 H1N1 influenza monovalent vaccine to provide protection for the infant.
Avatar m tn ve had pneumonia before and I also have mild asthma and it is far better for me to take a chance with vaccines, than to risk getting the flu or swine flu and I trust my physician more than I trust some type of natural..., unproven, herbal or chinese, or 'natural' medicine. That's IMHO.
358304 tn?1409709492 The media is getting everyone upset about a strain of flu that is no more deadly than any other strain of flu (which isn't particularly deadly anyway). Tens of thousands of people come down with the flu each year, most of whom never report it because their illness is mild. There is nothing to be upset about. It is not fun to be sick, but you will get over it.
184674 tn?1360860493 Health officials everywhere are now recommending each man, woman and child get as many as four flu shots this season; two doses for the swine flu, and one or two doses for the seasonal flu, depending on whether you’ve ever had a flu shot before. Is it really prudent to mass-administer an untested swine flu vaccine along with a seasonal flu vaccine that may increase your chances of contracting the swine flu?
