zovirax

Avatar m tn we treat herpes simplex and herpes zoster with the same medications. it's just a matter of dose.
Avatar n tn There is no pain in my neck or any where else. Therapy has not helped. Am taking 800-1200 mg of Advil and 800 mg of Acyclovir daily, plus Alcum for pain at night. All the doctors so far have said it happens with shingles but not genital or simplex herpes. This discussion is related to Herpes Simplex type 1 (genital herpes) ? Postherpetic Neuralgia.
Avatar m tn However my doctor a urologist suggested that it could be herpes and started me on acyclovir 400 for 3 times a day. I read on few posts here that the combination tests are not reliable. Hence I tested for herpes type specific 1 and 2 tests for antibodies Serum by EIA. The results were HSV 1 serum by EIA IGG value of 0.08 and IGM value of 0.06 HSV 2 serum by EIA IGG value of 0.6 and IGM value of 0.1 I have a few questions 1) do the EIA test results come back the next day.
Avatar m tn I have had herpes simplex type 2 (genital) for about 2.5 years. Acyclovir and lysine have reduced outbreaks dramatically. If I have unprotected sex with a partner who has been tested for herpes simplex 2 ( the test results indicate that exposure was quite awhile ago), will I risk causing my partner to have an outbreak? Will my partner's herpes cause me to have an outbreak?
Avatar f tn When you have an active cold sore, try one day valtrex or one day famvir to help speed healing instead of the dose you are taking of acyclovir. Another option is just to take acyclovir 800mg 3x/day for 2 days. You have done you can do by starting to treat it early on. If you don't have insurance, keep with the acyclovir since it's way cheaper. Have you thought about daily suppressive therapy instead?
Avatar n tn I was originally prescribed 400 mg of acyclovir twice daily for suppression of my herpes type 2. Recently, I asked my doctor to increase my dosage to 800 mg of acyclovir twice daily. Is there any negatives associated with taking a higher dose than what is normally prescribed for suppression. Also, are there any benefits to taking a higher dose regularly for suppression like less shedding?
55646 tn?1263660809 Nationally, there are at least three different studies beginning for the treatment of genital herpes. First, the Genocea phase one (first in humans) trial. Instead of an oral medication to treat herpes, Genocea out of Boston has taken the approach of stimulating the immune system to respond more robustly to the herpes virus in people who are already infected with the virus.
Avatar f tn one day i went to go check the pills she gave me because i was on birth control and wanted to know if it would affect it so i looked up the name acyclovir to find out it was for the herpes simplex virus....i freaked out and called and asked them why they gave me a pill for herpes if i didn't have that and the nurse on the phone told me that its for more than one thing and that its best not to google things cause it give me false indications.....
Avatar f tn Long-term use of acyclovir for up to 10 years for HSV suppression is effective and well tolerated. Acyclovir is also approved for use in children, is available in some countries over the counter in cream formulation for herpes labialis, and has been monitored in over 1000 pregnancies. Safety monitoring data from clinical trials of valacyclovir, involving over 3000 immunocompetent and immunocompromised persons receiving long-term therapy for HSV suppression, were analyzed.
Avatar m tn Two weeks later my blood test results came back negative for simplex 1, and a positive result of 1.49 for simplex 2. I saw the nurse at PP again and she put me on acyclovir for repressive therapy. In the next few days I developed a large pimple like bump just at the bottom of the shaft of penis. I decided to go to a doctor to get it examined and a swab taken for a culture.
Avatar m tn indeed she has changed that section a lot I see. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3332182/ is a terrific article to print out and take with you that lists the doses for acyclovir ( the valtrex dose appears to be a typo - it's supposed to be 500mg twice a day ). http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar m tn My boyfriend and I are planning to go further into the relationship, and however I would like to do the most that I can to prevent him of getting the virus from me. I have stand-by pills of acyclovir with me for around 5 outbreaks that I can remember. Could you advise help to advise on how much of the dosage that I will need to take for suppressive treatment, and how long will it take to start to be effective? Thanks in advance for the help.
Avatar n tn with skin-on-skin contact it only takes one time to catch herpes the use of condoms is a good idea, also what is herpes simplex 2 ? genital herpes?
Avatar m tn This time the test came back positive for simplex-2 and nothing showed up for simplex-1.....my doctor said he was kind of confused...I am totally freaking out now....I was taking acyclovir which is...generic for valtrex....i started this a week before i saw had the second blood test....I have had no signs of anything that resembled what was on my lip down in my pubic region....I have used condoms all the time....
Avatar m tn Her and I were together 7 years by this time. I tested positive for Herpes Simplex I (mouth) but was negative for Herpes Simplex II (genital). I was told by the lab that Herpes Simplex I is very common (50-80% of population) and that most people don't know they have it( like me) because they never have symptoms. I have never had cold sores or anything on my mouth. I do often get Canker sores in my mouth but it's my understanding that is not herpes.
Avatar m tn s he was going to prescribe me 400mg acyclovir to take twice daily for suppression. My question is, how much of a reduced number of OB's should I expect and does taking this medication cause any birth defects as my wife and I are talking of maybe having another child. Thanks in advance.
Avatar m tn creams dont really work on herpes lesion, since they are infecting the skin from the inside out.
Avatar m tn I cannot comment specifically to your case since recurrent herpes simplex virus (HSV) in the eye is very complicatied as the HSV virus can just attack the surface of the cornea, get into the cornea deeper laywer in in the eye's interior. There are two approved eye drops for HSV, you might ask your ophthalmologist about that. Ideally you are under the care of an Eye MD ophthalmologist that is fellowship trained and specializes in cornea diseases.
Avatar m tn The amount you were prescribed is for a first herpes ob ( the full 10 days ). It's not a recurrence dose. The easiest way to use acyclovir for oral herpes is 800mg 3x/day for 2 days. It's not FDA approved as a dose but the literature backs it and it's become generally accepted as a dose ( acyclovir has been a generic for a long time so it's doubtful anyone is going to pay for the studies to go for fda approval of this dose ).
Avatar f tn Why were you given acyclovir to take? You really haven't provided any testing details except for your blood test. Did they do a swab of your rash?
Avatar m tn s 3 months post encounter. should you get more obvious symptoms of herpes prior to that, be seen promptly for further evaluation. Nothing else you can do at this point to know if you really have hsv2 or not.
