Avatar m tn My dog has a mild yeast infection in her left ear but she may have a tear in her eadrdrum. The vet gave us TrizEDTA but due to her losing her hearing from Tri-Otic, we didn't want to use any more ear medication that can cause hearing loss. I've recently started making her home cooked meals, wipe her down with apple cider vinegar+water, and flushing her ears out every other day plus cleaning the outer part of her ears on days I don't flush.
Avatar m tn It isn't possible to say what would work until the problem is understood. For example, if the dog also has a smell it may be a skin dermatitis or yeast infections. Some breeds seem to be more prone to yeast. If that's the case a medicated treatment that disrupts the yeast infection has to be used. It is possible to get over-the-counter medicated dog shampoo with 1% (I think that's the small level) ketoconazole which can help stop yeast.
370181 tn?1595629445 My vet, who we have taken 23 years worth of animals to, will not let us make payments to help our dog who has a yeast infection in his ears and which seems to be spreading to the other creatures who allow us to live here. My dog is a rescued shepard/sheltie cross. He had been shot, beaten, legs broken and starved, then tossed into a snow covered field to wait for death to find him. Fortunately, a kindhearted farmer found him first.
209987 tn?1451935465 Our newly acquired "Hero" is going through yet another round of yeast infection in her ears. Before my dad passed away, I remember him saying something about how Sheba was constantly going through this. He had tried many things over the years...took her to the vet who would rinse her ears and then apply some sort of cream inside them. Dad said that he would dish out about $80 or more each visit, and the relief for her would not last long.

Avatar f tn I suggest you go to the doctor and confirm if it's a yeast infection or not. If you treat yourself for yeast infection and have a bacterial vaginosis instead, you will only make it worse.
Avatar f tn ll be more accepting of it. Secondly your dog can be treat systemically for yeast infections with Fluconazole or Ketoconazole. Both are human drugs too so you can try online pharmacys like Costco.com or price shop your local pharmacys just ask you vet what the dose and quantity would be and try to save some money for yourself. He does need to get his ears cleaned out though so try the muzzle. Did they prescibe an antifugal ear drop? Clotrimazole is good for really subborn yeast.
237053 tn?1258828426 I've been dealing with a big yeast infection and my tongue gets that way sometimes too. I think Wonko once mentioned something I've also seen written elsewhere too, which is to swish around but DO NOT SWALLOW water with hydrogen peroxide in it. I forget the proportions. You can google it. *I think I've read that hydrogen peroxide is poisonous if you swallow it.* But it blasts the little yeast bugs to bits, so I've read. (I stick to Listerine cause I'm a chicken.
Avatar m tn Hi. I completely agree with everything skydnsr has said. Ear infections in dogs is very common, and almost always due to either mites or yeast infection and/or allergies of many kinds. The inner ears of a dog are fragile and susceptible to infection due to the close surface blood vessels. But the real question is, what is it that your dog has become allergic to (unless the reaction/inflammation has come from another dog or something else like due to diet).

Avatar n tn Is it possible for a female dog to get a yeast infection? She has been licking herself more than usual and I noticed she left a brownish discharge after sitting on a blanket. She doesn't whine or seem uncomfortable and is just as active as usual. Is there a homeopathic remedy that I can give her? BTW, she is spayed.
Avatar f tn The smells bad and itch sounds like it might be a Yeast infection - I don't know the medicine you said was prescribed. Yeast/dermatitis can be treated with a shampoo containing Ketaconazole (sp? this is a hard one, but my spelling is close enough). I have purchased it over-the-counter for about $10 at Walmart.. may have been an "Adams" brand The active ingredients are listed on the bottle. For a small dog one bottle would be enough for 3 maybe 4 baths.
Avatar f tn Taysien is a shelter dog he stayed with another family and the dog that they owned had an ear issue they said was a yeast infection of the ear? Their vet gave them pills for the dog to take an it cleared up. Our dog got this ear issue while there and we went to our vet and told them what had happened to their dog. They told us that it required steroids and put him on them this made him aggressive. We were told to discontinue the steroids.
Avatar f tn Have you had the yeast cultured to see what kind it is? There is an ear medication called Otomax that is used to cure yeast infections in the ear and it is very effective against the Malassezia pachydermatis yeast organism. Why not talk to your vet about using Otomax if you have not yet tried it?
Avatar f tn I had the same trouble with one of my dogs. Every summer she got yeast infections in her feet. She'd cool off in the pool, and since she had big hairy toe pads, they harbored moisture and made a perfect environment for fungus. The stench was horrible! My vet recommended Dermachlor Flush Plus, and it was a godsend. It comes in a bottle and I'd squirt it on her toe pads and in between her toes twice a day for 3 days. Fungus gone.
403311 tn?1205951286 It is ear medication that treats yeast and bacteria otitis (ear infection). You can make a ear solution at home if your dog has a yeast infection in her ears. Use one tablespoon of vinegar in 1/2 cup of warm water. It should be either room temperature or slightly warmer since cold water in ears can cause inner ear problems.
