Dog abscess tooth home treatment

Common Questions and Answers about Dog abscess tooth home treatment

abscess

Avatar n tn Depending on the general health of the dog, a small dog weighing 45 pounds can live 15 years or more! Ask your vet about making payments to have the abscess taken care of. If you are considering putting him down because of an abscessed tooth I can tell you that most vets would sternly recommend against it, and it probably will not cost you a lot more to have the tooth taken care of than it would to have him euthanized. PLEASE consider having the tooth doctored.
Avatar m tn Lastly , I tried to give him a treat and instead of eating it striaght away he put it down multiple times before deciding to eat it. Everything is pointing to what I see online as a tooth abscess but I'm not sure I could pay for him to go to the vet at a time like this. Please tell me it's not a tooth abscess and I could stop worrying because there's some small fix I could do for $5 :(.
Avatar n tn I'm so glad you took him to the vet! I'd probably just have the tooth pulled so you won't have to worry about it again. No doubt the abscess is pretty painful for your dog too. Very ouchy, tooth abscesses. I've had a couple myself and wonder if I should have just had the stupid things pulled instead of putting myself through root canal, crown and 10 years later the whole works just breaks off anyway. LOL! We had a dog who lost part of a back tooth.
Avatar f tn My first thought when looking at this was that it is perhaps a tooth abscess. Has he had his teeth checked recently? On the other hand, it could also be a cyst. If, when you gently feel it, does it feel attached somehow, or does it lift up with the skin? If it lifts up it sounds very much like a cyst. Does it appear to cause him any discomfort or do you see him shaking his head sometimes? It has a very rounded appearance, and that is quite cyst-like.
Avatar f tn I have a 14 year old dog. Last week we found out he had a tooth abscess. We put him under antibiotic. After a few days the infection ( little mass under his eye) disappeared. He seemed to be doing a whole lot better (he stopped crying at night and was more reactive) I was also planing to find a vet to take off his tooth.
Avatar f tn The vet has done one urine cortisol test which showed increased levels of cortisol but there was a tiny increase in urine concentration though still dilute. There was a tooth root abscess that was also being treated at the time of the test so the vet wants to do the test in a couple more weeks since the infection could cause the increase in urine cortisol.
Avatar n tn IS THIS AN ABSCESS TOOTH OR IS THIS FLUID FROM MY EAR. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY AFTER TWO ROUNDS OF ANITBOTICS IF THIS IS AN ABSCESS IT HASN'T WENT DOWN.
Avatar n tn help!! i had an abscess on a tooth that had already had root canal treatment went to the dentist he said i had the abscess after taking an x ray and said the tooth needed to be removed. without asking whether there was anyone to go home wiith me or if the rest of my day was free, he, under just normal injected into the mouth painkiller proceeded to pull the tooth i felt most of it and screamed i had previously asked can i have gas and air or something he said id be "fine" .
Avatar m tn Yes i have they give me tablets then said come back Monday to have it out, but all the swelling as now spread to my neck so a bit worries
Avatar n tn Has your dog had a recent injury, or cut there? If so it might have got infected. But a likely cause of this would be a tooth abscess. He/she needs to see a vet.
Avatar n tn It is possible that acute abscess has been developing. It is best to get an appropriate evaluation and treatment done. If there was a root canal done in the above tooth? In few cases root canals can fail due to branching and convolutions of the tooth roots. See your dentist at the earliest. Treatment will be specific based on the cause. Best luck and regards!
Avatar n tn If there's an abscess, root canal treatment should resolve the problem. If not, a re-treatment of the root canal is possible or an apicoectomy in which they remove the tip of the infected root along with the infection in that area. Referral to a specialist for the procedure may be necessary.
Avatar m tn My tooth had a hairline crack and the only time it hurt me was if tiny grains would get in it. That was massively painful. The dentist gave me a root canal.
Avatar m tn Judging by your description, it is most likely a fistula which is a tract that forms from the abscess of your infected tooth that escapes out to the gums. As long as the fistula in intact, your abscess can drain and slow down the spread of the abscess but if the fistula closes up, the abscess can spread rapidly through your face or neck area. I would recommend seeing a dentist and getting treatment started.
Avatar n tn I went to my regular dentist on 1/13/06 and xrays showed a large abscess in tooth #10, as well as a smaller abscess in tooth #20. On 1/17/06 I had a RCT done on tooth #10, as well as an incision in the roof of my mouth behind that tooth to help extract the infection. On 1/19/06, I had a RCT done on tooth #20, with one 0.05mm post placed. I have been on Antibiotics since 1/13/06, taking Penicillin VK 500mg QID, so I'm now on my Eighth day of antibiotics.
Avatar n tn s got a tooth abscess in a healthy tooth and that the tooth should be extracted. He said it is unusual in cats and that they don't know the cause. He also suggested some antibiotics for a few days before the surgery to help with the infection. Just wondering if it is worth trying to save the tooth. Go through the course of antibiotics and see if he gets better. My vet made me feel like I was just being cheap and that conventional wisdom is to just remove the tooth.
Avatar m tn How much risk is there of the infection spreading in a dangerous way if this is some kind of chronic low level abscess? Should I push for emergency treatment or can it wait until I get to Hong Kong? Will the antibiotics help address any risk of the infection spreading? How is it possible that I have gone back so many times for exams and had them find nothing wrong?
14987752 tn?1437741703 Going back to your dentist to have a post op exam is advised. Your descriptions suggest presence of bacterial resistance to amoxicillin. Switching to other antibiotics may help sooner recovery.
Avatar m tn I arrive at the office, get an x-ray, dentist looks at my tooth and says I have an abscess and it seemed to have been there for quite some time already. She proceeds do drain it, sends me home on antibiotics and ibuprofen, and tells me to come back on Friday to extract the tooth. My headache only got worse, and I felt pain from behind my nose and eye all the way back to the neck, all on the left side. It "stings" when I inhale deeply, so I imagined it's the sinus cavities.
Avatar m tn what happeneds if i dont get the extraction, im trying antibotics for now! and say i get an extraction what do i do after that? can i get an implant the same day! i want to finish school with a full pair of teeth...
Avatar n tn I'v just noticed a big abscess above my tooth, i already know i need root canal treatment for the tooth but my dentist can't take me for another week. Is it safe to wait that long without anti-biotics or treatment?
Avatar n tn i posted before. i had an abscessed tooth and the abscess spread into my cheek. my dentist put me on keflex but after 10 days there was still noticable swelling in my cheek. so now the dentist has put me on a stronger antibiotic. when i woke up this morning i felt a very large "bubble" on my inside cheek.
Avatar n tn A related discussion, tooth broken for a year, now aches and swollen cheek was started.
Avatar f tn My guess would be that it may take a few weeks. Keep using all the recommended treatment regimen at home and hopefully it'll gradually go away. You may need a root canal if the symptoms don't stop after about 4-6 weeks I would guess.
Avatar f tn We have a 14 year old miniature poodle who had an abscess and tooth removal 2 weeks ago. He did great and came home happy and eating like normal. However in the last 24 hours he has refused to eat and is chewing at his skin like he has a flea (but he doesn’t!). Our vet is out of the clinic until Monday but we may have to see another in Her practice before then.
Avatar f tn Sorry, forgot to mention her antibiotic treatment. She has definitely been on antibiotics. Since she returned home on the 1st of April I've had her on a couple different kinds, the second a stronger antibiotic (do not have the name but will get it when I get home). Currently, she has had her stitches removed and it seems to be healing nicely... minus the fluid that is still leaking (i have to change the bandage once a day).
Avatar f tn How long does it take for a cavity to develop a periapical abscess? When is the tooth too far gone to save it? Hope to hear from an expert.
Avatar m tn Standard treatment of a tooth abscess is to drain pus and then disinfect and fill tooth, or remove tip of root (an apicectomy) if it cannot be disinfected, or take the tooth out.
