trigeminal-neuralgia

Avatar f tn Hello, I would like to know if any one out there has TMJ like symptoms along the jaw area, along with their neuralgia. I have been told it is not trigeminal neuralgia, but the symptoms seem to be more like atypical trigeminal instead.. It is consistent, and very painful and the pain medications are making me so sick, I can't function.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your question. This may be Trigeminal neuralgia as you have typical one sided facial pain extending to temple and eye( ophthalmic branch of trigeminal nerve may be involved) and sore gums of the teeth of same side (maxillary branch of 5th nerve). Trigeminal neuralgia may have a triggering factor like recent history of tooth extraction, touch, cold breeze or hot sensation etc. which you need to evaluate and avoid.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with Paratrigeminal Neuralgia and so far (knock on wood) my pain does not compare to yours (although having an icepick stuck in your head isn't really all that much fun either)! I wish there was something that I could do to help but I am out west in Alberta so even if there was you would have a bit of wait for me to get there...tee hee. I am glad that you came here to vent and please let us know how you are doing and if things improve for you ok?
Avatar n tn Hi 1987 Cry1987.. does this mean that you're twenty-one and in a lot of pain.. I'm so sorry you're going through this . It does sound like it could be trigeminal neuralgia(sp)..There is a vast amount of info on the web about this and many of the forum members have gone through TN, myself included .. Its not fun Are you see a neuro , has he/she prescribed anything for it. You could also have something else , like TMJ , you really need to have this looked at.
1475492 tn?1332884167 Was told they may be some form of atypical migraine but I AM NOT light or sound sensitive!!!! They dont go away in hours. They stay and just increase or decrease in pain level. Normal migraine meds DO NOT WORK. I also suffer from other Neurological sx (tingling, numbness, pins and needles around eye, ear, lips, cheeks) that increase with the pain. I have narcotics for them and have tried several kinds. They take some of the edge off but not all the way.
Avatar n tn In all probability, you are suffering from trigeminal neuralgia. For medical treatment of trigeminal neuralgia several types of drugs are tried either singly or in combination. These are anti-epilepsy drugs such as valproate, carbamazepine, lamotrigine, phenytoin, gabapentin, and pregabalin; muscle relaxants such as clonazepam and baclofen; tricyclic antidepressants such as carbamazepine, amitriptyline, and nortriptyline.
Avatar n tn Been to regular doctor several times, first for throat infection with fever and antibiotics had little effect. Pain not cured by pain killers. Lymph in neck is swollen and does not go away. Face started to swell. Then large lumps under arm began, antibiotics did not work and had allergic reaction. Regular doc referred me to a neurologist who diagnosed trigeminal neuralgia and prescribed anti-seizure and anti-depressant. Had MRI and EEG. Tests showed nothing.
Avatar f tn Hi, Thank you for your question Trigeminal neuralgia may have a triggering factor like recent history of tooth extraction, touch, cold breeze or hot sensation etc. which you need to evaluate and avoid. Drug of choice for trigeminal neuralgia is carbamazepine but as the dose may vary according to severity therefore I would advice an oral medicine specialist consultation or at least a physician to confirm this diagnosis and get you treated accordingly. Take care.
1140169 tn?1370185076 Hi, guys. I hadn't looked at this site for more than a year. STN is a new categorization. Clearly my TN is STN also. This does not mean that we don't a form of Trigeminal Neuralgia. The "Powers That Be" have conferred and determined that they will separate TN from MS from the classic TN which is caused from Compression of the nerve. This makes sense and does NOT change what we have been saying about TN, its incidence in MSers or its meaning.
Avatar f tn Symptomatic trigeminal neuralgia is usually caused by multiple sclerosis or by tumours arising near the trigeminal nerve root. Differential diagnosis of trigeminal neuralgia: Cluster headache - Longer-lasting pain; orbital or supraorbital; may cause patient to wake from sleep; autonomic symptoms Dental pain (e.g.
Avatar n tn To to get relief from Tn trigeminal neuralgia naturally, the full pranayam exercises are described below. You can do this alongside any medication.Your feedback at some point will help others. This works gradually, so allow time (3 months to 9 months) and concentrate fully on the breathing. Keep a record of episodes and how you are feeling. Avatar f tn Without the medication I could not live with this pain, it does help but the pain never goes away, and I dread it when I know that I am going to have an attack, nobody seems to know exactly what is what is causing this, I have looked up Trigeminal Neuralgia and I have these symptoms along with other symptoms, can you please tell me if you think that I may have this or a combination of Trigeminal Neuralgia and Hemicrania Continua. I live in the UK and would really appreciate your advice.

Avatar f tn org/posts/Multiple-Sclerosis/Attack-of-trigeminal-neuralgia--OMG/show/2646953#post_12856616) I moaned about it, but I have to say it was excruciating. Fine now, at least from that standpoint. The standard treatment is Tegretol (carbamazepine). It turns out I can't tolerate that, as a reasonably effective dose wiped out my balance and had me staggering all over the place. It also almost destroyed my platelet count, which was down to 23.
Avatar f tn I went to the dentist, who x-rayed me, and said I had an abscess, above my left upper 1 tooth. He did root canal treatment, but could not find anything, the pain did not go away, and after several root canals, he referred me to a consultant for an apicectomy. When the operation was done, as he drilled through the bone, he said there was lots of pus to drain away.
567677 tn?1246767776 he said to me well Utah does not have Medical Majiuana but for trigeminal neuralgia I can put you on Marinol the side effects will help you ... I asked him what it was and he told me I was just glad I wasn't presenting for it...

Avatar f tn After the pain med has taken effect, these symptoms go away. I have no idea why. My simple assumption is that the pain is caused by an inflammation of some kind. It will also hurt in my ear or temple when I bend over. I have had migraines with aura since high school. I am now 43. This pain does not occur with aura, and do not follow my typical migraine pattern. Most of my issues are on my left side, including not being able to bend my toes. I do believe this is all related somehow.
Avatar n tn I had read about glossopharyngeal neuralgia, but since it would go away for a long time, months, even a year before, could it possibly that that? And what about when I stretch my neck backward and turn my head in the opposite direction it can sometimes be 'pop' in my outer ear and it is back to normal. That too me didn't sound like glossopharyngeal neuralgia. The popping sound/feeling seems to be in the outer ear. I am just so confused. thank you for your time....
279234 tn?1363105249 Thanks for the comments Insurance companies don't make since. I'm currently fighting with mine over a shot of birth control I got to control an ovarian cyst. My doctors and I decided we would use the Deprovera shot...It was either that or lose the only ovary I had left. My insurance company doesn't want to pay for the shot...They said they would have if it was the birth control pill but this wasn't an option for me because of the blood clots I got in my leg last year.
