Ask about switching to Cequa. There are 3 meds in the drugs that work like Restasis, The other 2 are Xiidra, which I have not found useful at all, and Cequa which is the same med in restasis (cyclosproin) but twice the amount and on a patented carrier that moves it deeper into the cornea. It will be more expensive as not as much med in the vial and cost usually higher than restasis.
Hi. I've been having trouble with dry eyes these last 2 months but have just realized how bad the fluorescent lighting is at work. I grade papers all day long under these lights. I'm not on the computer except to maybe print 1 or 2 things off. My eyes ALWAYS start to bother me around 1:00pm. Shopping at Walmart has always been a problem too. Just the wind from walking down the aisles makes it hard for me. It's very embarrassing.
ve recently posted that I just recently started Restasis, but my question is will the red eyes start getting better as the Restasis starts to work. Does dry eyes cause them to be red.......... I mean they are not horribly red, but are somewhat irritated. Will my eyes be like this always or will they get better eventually. My eye Dr. said they're not too bad, but I know that this is not they way they were before.
My eyes are still dry so now we are trying Restasis, but I read in the instructions that it does not work for people with eye plugs. The doctor told me that basically if this doesn't work he cant help me. Anybody know what my problem could be and how I could fix it? I have to wear contacts, Im a very active person and its annoying to always have to wear my glasses. Oh, and by the way, I took Accutane a few years ago, maybe thats what caused it?
No restasis works with a plug.
What usually would be done is a "permanet" plug that won't disolve but that is easy to remove because it has a cap would be put in and left till you switch to restasis. Collagen and dissolving plugs usually just last several weeks at most.
I'm on restasis, my wife is on restasis, I use restasis in my practice. the medicine does not cause floaters. Floaters can occur at any time. If they start and you are doing something else like mowing the yard, reading a book or starting restasis the relationship is COINCIDENTAL. On the other hand if you are hit in the eye with a fist and note floaters the relationship is CAUSATIVE.
You can try using a mild steroid drops for the first few weeks of treatment to ease of transition. Restasis does have pretty good science behind it and decent results can be obtained after 6 or 12 months of continuous treatment. Talk to your ophthalmolgist about restarting treatment. Also ask if the plugs are still in and consider getting new ones if needed. Try adding oral omega 3 fish oil and flax seed oil and modify lifestyle to reduce reading and computer work some.
After taking restasis for over a year and my dry eyes was not getting better the Dr. gave me lotemax but said only use that. Now after using it for 2 months only, he said I shouldn't have stopped the restasis. Now I am really annoyed.....have I lost what improvement I may have gained with the restasis having stopped it for two months? Should I be seeing a opthomologist rather than a Dr. of Optometry???
Hi. I have posted several questions regarding my dry eyes but think I realize what really is irritating them the most. It's the fluorescent lighting at work. My eyes seem fine in the morning then around 1:00, at the SAME TIME every day, my eyes get real watery & hurt. I don't work on the computer at work but do get on quite a bit a home. That also aggravates my eyes. This all came out of the blue 2 months ago. I have been fine up until then which is puzzling..
My results were only 2 seconds when normal break up time is around 7 seconds. Does the fact that my eyes are indeed dry have any effect on the persistent redness that I still have? My doctor gave me temporary lower punctal plugs, but they fell out after a few hours. I could feel the plugs poking my eyes when I looked side to side. Does this mean they were properly inserted all the way?

My Eye Doctor suggested I keep Restasis in the fridge to make more comfortable and reduce the burning and to keep using ir for 2 days. Does Restasis lose its effectiveness when placed in the fridge. Also when are results typically seen? I have a TBUT of 5 and hoping to see an increase if ues consistently.
I just got back from my optomologist & he prescribed for me Restasis. He mentioned that once you're on Restasis, it's an on going thing it's not really temporary. Is that the case, do I have to stay on it. I was hoping that once my eye is feeling better, I could just use artificial tears to keep my eyes from drying so badly. He also changed my contact lenses to Acuvue Oasys. Any advice or info would be great.............................

Rare anyone to be too sensitive to restasis. My wife and I have been on restasis for many years with fabulous results. restasis works with both forms of dry eyes. Many people have stinging with restasis for several weeks which can be helped by using steroid drops for a couple of weeks. there is a new medication that works like restasis called Xidra it is supposed to kick in faster (3-4 months) than restasis (4-6 months) but has not been shown to be better than restasis and is more costly.
I have been using the restasis for about 3 months and have not really noticed a difference. My right eye is worse that the left. The doctor plugged the lower lid, however I cannot tell much of a difference. The irritation is coming from the upper lid. I look in my right eye and can see tears along the lower portion. If I plug the upper lid and unplug the lower would that help? Also based on the Schirmers score would this be considered mild/moderate or servere dry eye?
Hi. Last week I started Restasis for dry eyes. I tried temporary collagen plugs but they did not help.. My dry eyes just seemed to come out of the blue last month. (I've had minor dry eye problems for many years). Now, it's all I think about. My main problem is a windy feeling to my eyes, even in my own home. I am actually dealing with that right now. My eyes actually feel better when they have a dry feeling, if that makes sense.
I was diagnosed with severe dry eyes 4 years ago. I tried all kinds of liquid drops and they did not work. I tried Restasis for a few months and all it did was burn my eyes. They don't advertise this, but Restasis is only effective in 15% of the people. Finally I had my bottom tear ducts plugged.
What worked best for me was an ointment. I use Genteal PM as needed throughout the day, otherwies I'll get a headache from my dry eyes.
I tried OTC preservative free drops, lotemax, restasis, omega 3 fish oil, and am drinking a lot of water. My remedies are helping but this condition is awful and I'm not sure if I'm doing enough to reduce the symptoms. Is there anything else I can try to help my condition? I know that my pink eye had something to do with my tear production so I was hoping someone else had a similar experience and had a successful remedy to deal with this.
