Common Questions and Answers about Does novolog need to be refrigerated

novolog

Avatar n tn Novolin says unopened vials shall be kept at temperatures below 30°C (86°F) for up to 28 days in the refrigerator, but should not be exposed to excessive heat or sunlight. Open vials may be refrigerated too. My pharmacist states that if I do not wish to refrigerate it my room temp of 50-70° is just fine for storage.
Avatar m tn t want to get into a big discussion on whether or not it is available. I just want to know if it NEEDS to be refrigerated. Does it? What if you don't keep it cool? I don't want to get into taking a med that needs this kind of special treatment because it opens the door for lessened potency, of course. Could someone get to the bottom of this refrigerate or not Thyrolar issue?
Avatar f tn s a multi dose vial it does need to be refrigerated after opening. Sooo, which is it?? The vial contains 4 weeks worth of medication for me.
Avatar m tn I live in Kenya and cannot find any supply of NovoLog there is only Humulin R. I need help to know if this is accceptable please!!!
Avatar n tn I am at the point now where I am trying to cut 95% of the carbs out of my diet and increase my physical activity so that I can reduce the need for Novolog, loose weight and eventually loose my need for Lantus as well. Prayerfully this will work. The doctor said that loosing at least 15 pounds would take my insulin dependency level down.
Avatar n tn You may need to check your blood sugar a couple extra times and may need to increase your Novolog dosage at one or more meals. Just be careful and take less rather than more to be safe. Good luck.
Avatar n tn Medtronic 512 and 712 - works with a blood glucose meter that sends results directly to the pump by radio frequency Deltec Cozmo - works with a blood glucose meter attached to it Animas - has several great features With an insulin pump you need to monitor blood glucose more frequently and be connected to the pump 24/7 but quality of life much improved over injections. Also, better blood sugar results and A1cs possible.
Avatar f tn Do you wait for the insulin to warm to room temperature that could help and also are you injecting in the fat tissue? what type of insulin are you using?
Avatar n tn Why is it that Lantus requires a prescription when other long-acting types of insulin do not? I feel like I should be able to go to a drugstore and purchase any type of insulin that I choose without a prescription.
Avatar f tn Take your breakfast soon after you wake up (you will need to dose Novolog to provide both a correction and to cover the food). it will be best if your breakfast is very low carb ie. eggs or meat and some veges, to avoid further increasing blood sugars too much. Eating may actually help stop the liver putting out sugar, which it does in response to an overnight fast. 6.
154668 tn?1290115995 Does that mean long term storage or does that mean that we need to keep them cold if we go out for the afternoon?
Avatar n tn t need insulin. So when do I take the Novolog? I been waiting 2 hrs and using it to get from my normal 250 - 300 (After meals) down to an acceptable level.<140.
Avatar f tn HELLLO, I AM FRESH OUT OF THE HOSPITAL AND THEY WANT ME TO CONTINUE MY INSULINE REGIMENT WITH LANTUS AND NOVOLOG BUT THEY DIDNT TELL ME WHICH ONE TO TAKE WHEN LIKE WITH MEALS AND BEFORE BED. I NEED HELP BEFORE I END UP BACK IN THE HOSPITAL. CAN YOU HELP ME FAST?
Avatar n tn s simply imperative that you work with someone who can help you make the many adjustments. It would not be surprising to find that you may need to change your doses, your timing and perhaps even your long-acting insulin. You didn't mention which long-acting insulin, but I'm assuming you have Type 1 and that you are using some longer-acting insulin also. It seems you may be overdue for some good diabetes training since you mention that you take "4 units before meals.
Avatar m tn Had a big stream of insulin pop out when I tested the First Injection today , the second test was normal .. a couple of drops .. maybe its starting to work, I need to be patient , I think and stop panicking!! Nordisk is sending a Diabetes consultant next Wednesday at the family doc's. I'll be there. I have been injecting over 60 units [the limit on Flexpen] , using the same needle. Now using two needles .. starting yesterday.
12861759 tn?1432917955 I did both at the same time. not that hard to do, just keep good records and test your BG. when your 4 hour PP BG is the same as your pre-meal BG then you took the correct amount of novolog for the carbs you eat. WHen your Pre-meal is under 130 and your fasting is under 130 your Lantus is correct.
Avatar m tn Normally your care provider would have provided you with instructions. Didn't instructional paperwork accompany the pen? Contact your care provider for the proper amount [units] designated for you. Then Google search "how to use novolog flex pen" [w/o the " " [quotes]], scroll down and click the link to [PDF] NovoLog Flex Pen. You'll need a .pdf reader to read it. If you don't have one, go to Adobe and download and install the free pdf file reader.
Avatar n tn t) but because of the specifics that can play a role in why our ratios would be higher/lower and what factors might suggest we need to change our ratios over time.
704262 tn?1247674638 Yes, you can take Novolog and Lantus in separate injections, but they may not be mixed in the same injection or at the same injection site. Generally Novolog is only prescribed if you follow a strict physician-approved routine. If you have a meter and strictly monitor results of various combinations under vary circumstances use of both medications should cause no problems. Be careful using the Novolog because you can easily drop your blood sugar to very low levels.
209227 tn?1242346745 My DS was on Humalog when he first started pumping 8 years ago. Worked very well in the beginning. After about a year, his sites started to fail in 2 days for no reason, instead of him getting 3 days. After trouble-shooting all pump/site aspects of what could be causing consistent site failures, we decided to try Novolog, just to see if it made a difference. Our endo said they are soooo similar in structure that it should make no difference. But he agreed to let us try Novolog.
Avatar n tn not a physician) when I transitioned in the opposite direction you are going. Be sure to have a written record of your current basal settings. You may need to shift-in-time my basal settings. For example, let's say I had a basal rate of .5 from 12midnight until 4am when I was using Humalog in my pump. To get a similar basal coverage, I would "shift" that time to say ... 11pm - 4am. And do the same "shifting" for all my blocks of basal rates. Write 'em all down.
Avatar m tn One thing to make sure of is that your insulin is not more than a month old. The effectiveness of insulin can go down after a month. We've run across that a few times. Another thing to keep in mind is that sometimes your body will adapt to insulins/regimine. My husband has changed his insulin dosages several times over the 24 yrs of being diabetic. He also switched from short acting to 1 long acting shot. His body is reacting better to this than it was to the Novolin. Good luck.
Avatar n tn She is supposed to call this morning about changing his dosing. She said evenutally he will be able to go to the insulin to carb dosing but not now. I have figured out if he does not eat every 2 hours his sugar goes low. Is that normal? I feel like I am over feeding him. Also he has NO symptoms as of now of low sugar so thats REALLY scary. Thanks for the info and all the suggestions. It is GREATLY appreciated!
Avatar f tn Use of the wrong Insulin at the wrong time can be DEADLY. This is not something to be played with. PLEASE USE EXTREME CAUTION if you decide to do this and if you are not SURE what you are doing do not attempt it.
Avatar m tn Then another week I am changing to Lantus once a day from taking Levimir 2x a day. Change is hard for me but I need to remember to stay with my carbs small amount and protein and fat.
