adhd

Avatar f tn The ability to sustain attention to video games or television do not mean that a child does not have ADHD. Video games and television shows are so stimulating that even children with ADHD can spend lots of time with them. You may notice, however, that he is more active than other boys even while doing passive activities like watching tv.
Avatar n tn t communicate properly- it is neurological in origin and no med will help this disorder and that is where i started realizing that school said he was always inattentive despite being on different stimulants at the time for like 6 yrs, to see my child with child effects that were so severe that the tics he had were bad to the point they thought he had ocd like behavior and autistic like behaviours when he shuts down it can have the appearance of staring into space, or an outright refusal to coope

Avatar f tn After living with ADHD for 7 years I told my BFF about it. She began telling it doesn't exist and everyone has it. She asked me if I was in meds I said no. I can't take meds because I'm also bipolar and it causes manic stuff. I didn't tell her about the bipolar. Is ADHD really something everyone has or did she just make that up?
Avatar f tn I posted my concerns a few weeks ago but I only got one response so i'm gonna try once more. ; ) My nephew is 12 years old and about to be in the 7th grade. He is no where near ready to be in the 7th grade socially. My family and I have been worried about him for years but his mom refuses to admit there is anything going on other than him being "immature". He speaks like he's still a baby, he still carries around stuffed animals and says that he can't sleep without them.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am 23 years old and currently diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder and General Anxiety Disorder along with Post traumatic stress disorder but the past 5 or 6 months I have been questioning some of my diagnosis. I did some research on some stuff that has been going on with me since I was a child and I strongly think I could be add/adhd.
Avatar f tn Now, there are also conditions like Sensory Processing Disorder and ADHD where kids will bully and not even realize that they are doing that. Is your son having any other problems in school? How are his grades? Does he have any strong sensitivities to textures, food, sound, etc. This link might be helpful to determine if he has something like ADHD. http://www.additudemag.com/quiz/9/question-1.html?
Avatar f tn And, if he does have ADHD, what you (and the school) are doing will only make things worse - as you are beginning to find out. I could not tell from your post if he is having the same problems at home. That is pretty important to know. Also, if he had these problems last year. If this has only happened this year, that changes things. While I am waiting for you go get back to me on the above questions .....This is a good starting point for finding out about ADHD. http://helpguide.
Avatar n tn My child is 3 1/2 and does not like to be read to or color. He likes to look at books by himself and talk about them. He has a huge vocab. but prefers to mostly talk to himself. He has gotten better about talking to family. He will sit for along time and play with animals, trucks. puzzles, and loves tv. He seems very intell. , except for the socializing and talking to other people. He sometimes grits his teeth and puts his arm to his mouth when he gets excited. Does this sound adhd.
Avatar f tn //www.add-adhd-treatments.com/Famous-People.html So it certainly is possible to do very well in music, etc. and have ADHD. Personally, I know of at least two kids I had in school who found that drama or music changed their lives because it gave them a place to be successful in. Her other symptoms do fit those of someone who has ADHD, but other things could also be the reason.
Avatar f tn I dont want anything serious to be wrong with my son, but i have this feeling in my gut that something is wrong and i dont think it is ADHD!
Avatar f tn Its a good article, but the link didn't go through for me. Once you are on Webmd - do a search for ADHD causes and you will find it. But, yes, there is a strong genetic component. But, it is certainly not 100%. The advantage you will have is that you have the experience to help your child, if your child does have ADHD. Many kid's parents don't have a clue until the school system gets involved.
Avatar f tn s smart but he has been classified as ADHD due to focus issues. Lately I have seen some unusual behaviors, which my ex-husband and I have been trying to address. Yesterday we were told by his teacher that he was seen picking his nose and eating it. After sitting down with him, we found out that he was modeling another student in the class and didn't see what he was doing as inappropriate. Also when I take him to a movie, he sometimes covers his ears because of some of the loud sounds.
Avatar f tn First, there is a very strong genetic factor. But, it doesn't have to be a direct link. Good ol uncle joe could have been the link. But, I have seen numerous times where when the child was diagnosed and the parent started researching adhd - they said, "wait, so that explains why I always acted the way I did." And ADD or inattentive adhd is very easy to miss by doctors, teachers etc.
