Common Questions and Answers about Does macrobid have sulfa in it

macrobid

Avatar n tn Hi, welcome to the forum, you have a history of drug allergy. It is quite rare one having allergy to all the medication. In such cases you need to keep anti histaminics with you so as to prevent allergic reactions. Drugs like penicillin and sulfa group of drugs are most common cause for hypersensitivity reaction. As you have a history of penicillin allergy. If your body is hypersensitive to sulfa, reaction will be similar to that you develop for penicillin.
1027524 tn?1259033777 delivery, they ran a few tests and found out i have a UTI. they prescibed me Macrobid (a lot of other drugs used to treat them contain Sulfa & i'm highly allergic) well here's the thing. i looked some stuff up and i found this link, along w/ many others http://www.aboutlawsuits.com/birth-defects-linked-to-antibiotics-6733/ ^ i guess Macrobid is linked to birth defects. should i ask for a different med? is there any way to get rid of a UTI w/out medication? (maybe a lot of water?
Avatar n tn I had a baby 3 weeks ago and just over the last couple of days I have experienced this terrible itching! It started in the outer genital region, and I couldn't stop, it was so itchy it almost hurt. Now my whole body itches all over-- hands, head, arms, legs, everywhere. I have been treated recently with macrobid for a bladder infection and took a single dose of More Milk Plus. My urine is a dark color too, and I have no rashes, bumps or dry skin, but very, very itchy! Please help.
233616 tn?1312787196 The hospital admitted at first it was a drug reaction...but once they discovered it was their emergency doc who had prescribed it the week before, they started to back pedal on it being the cause. This drug is containdicated in the elderly and liver patients. After a rough weekend she is starting to stabilize...but we are unsure if the fibrulations have caused stroke and are awaiting MRI results. But I want to warn again the LIVER people that this is one of the worst drugs out there.
Avatar m tn It is not very common for her to get these so I was just wondering if this was a sign of chlamydia. I just think that it is strange for her to have uti and eye infection in two days. If I tested negative for gonorrhea does that also mean a negative result for chlamydia?? Is eye infection common std symptom?? Thanks!!
Avatar f tn html Category A Only a few medications fall into category A, which means that human studies have shown no evidence of fetal harm in the first trimester or later in the pregnancy. Nystatin vaginal (Mycostatin) Category B Most antibiotics are Category B, which means that there is no known association with birth defects or other pregnancy-related complication and the drug is probably safe.
Avatar n tn As far as macrobid, it is a sulfa drug. It has activity against a number of gram negative bacteria which casue UTIs but little activity against STDs. there is limited activity against chlamydia but theraeutic benefit should not be assumed.
Avatar f tn I tried every antibiotic (cipro, zithromax, amoxicillin, etc.) and macrobid was the only one that killed it. Ever since I have requested macrobid as the others still have failed to work. Now it appears as if macrobid no longer works. Also, for two years I have had blood in my urine (even when I don't have a UTI). I was also diagnosed (when this first recurrent infection occurred) with interstitial cystitis (sp?
Avatar n tn Have you ever heard of this happening to others? Is it because of drastic hormon changes after having kids? But in her case it happened a few years after having the baby....this is so strange.
Avatar f tn THE BLEEDING WILL COME OUT IN MY URINE I WANT TO KNOW WILL THE BLEEDING STOP? I HAVE BEEN TO SEE MY DOCTOR SHE SAID IT IS FROM HAVING A UTI AND COMPLETING THE MACROBID TREATMENT. I JUST NEED MORE OPINIONS!
187316 tn?1386356682 Macrobid I was told wasn't good in the first trimester. Though I'm not sure how any of them could really be considered "good". Metronidazole pretty much kills all negative cells in your body. It's so harsh that it kills the good and bad bacteria in your whoha. I'm just so concerned that it will have messed something up. I still can't even get over the fact I'm pregnant.
Avatar f tn Also, I have been off the pill for about a month and a half and no yeast infection:) so far so I'm guesing I eliminated the culprit. I also take acidophilus pretty regulary could I still have possible candida overgrowth? Ive searched the symptoms, in which there's a huge array but I have some of them. If it was indeed candida overgrowth wouldn't I have a chronic yeast infection or thrush I believe they call it?
Avatar n tn I have severe rashes now after taking bactrim for 5 days , I had to stop taking it as it made me feel very sick. Many weeks later Istill have these rashes on different parts of the body ...
Avatar f tn I need to get off of these as much as possible and it is in everything! Food, meds, and other various things. Anyone have a website that could help me with this or other that resources?
Avatar f tn Does the antibiotic macrobid used to treat uti's decrease the effectiveness of birth control? Because I'm on the pill and I shouldn't get my period for another week and I've been bleeding.. This makes me nervous because while taking macrobid I had sex without a condom, he pulled out, but I know that's not always a safe alternative either. I know that during early pregnancy bleeding isn't uncommon. I'm scared out of my mind..
Avatar f tn In truth, it 'could' be the macrobid but it also could be a combination of inflammation from the uti and your hormones shifting. I'd give it a cycle or two before trying to make a determination. I'm sure spotting is always a pain. Sorry that is happening.
Avatar f tn I and my husband received IV continous infusion Clindamycin treatment times 7 days and the followup testing showed we were both positive with clamydia. I still have pain in my right kidney that I usually have with chronic UTI. I am taking Cipro now for E. facelis but infection will not go away. It is too the point I don't want to have intercourse with my husband. Also did two months of oral macrobid and clarithomycin both I and my husband. Don't know what to do please advise.
Avatar f tn I have relapsing-remitting MS and was given Macrobid for a UTI. After my first day of Macrobid, my entire left side has gone numb and i have lost function in it. I do know that the weakness and numbness in one side can be caused by the MS, but it did not occur until i took the macrobid. I was stopped from taking the macrobid and started on it 2 more times and each time the weakness returned. Is there anyway to fix this?

Avatar f tn It feel I have small fiber neuropathy and asked my neurologist to please give me a biopsy for it. She said NO. I don't understand why not. I'll go to that website.
Avatar f tn I have not seen any problems using tapazole in patients with sulfa allergies.
Avatar m tn t on me and rubbed it in. From everything I have read this is a non risk exposure. 2 weeks later I expereinced frequent urination , and sometimes the urge to urinate even though I didnt need to go. While I had these symptoms I had a upper repsitory infection and was treated with a standrard Z pack and since that didnt work they also put me on doxycycline for a week.
Avatar f tn That night I woke up in excrutiating pain feeling like I had to pee, (the same feeling you get when you have a UTI like if I could pee it would feel better, not like oh my bladders full kind of feeling) went to go pee and could hardly get any urine out.
Avatar f tn I don't have any experience with this issue, but it may be comforting to know that most of us blame HepC for everything, especially in treatment. That doesn't mean it's unimportant, and it's good that you're paying attention to your body's needs. That will help. Good luck.
