Does lantus have to be refrigerated

Common Questions and Answers about Does lantus have to be refrigerated

lantus

Avatar f tn I have always been under the impression that insulin should always be refrigerated. I am seeing a patient that receives lantus QD and Novalog TID. she does not keep the pens that are being used, refrigerated, only the unused ones. Although even though they are not kept refrigerated, they do seem to keep her blood sugars under control. I wonder though if they were refrigerated would that make a big difference? I will call her physician if necessary.
Avatar n tn My Dr gave me a vial (not a pen) of Lantus to see if I perfered it that way. I forgot it in my pocket for six hours. Is it ruined?
Avatar n tn I have been using Lantus for 2 years now, and in the past 3 months have experienced this. Is it possible I have developed an allergy to Lantus? The burning is almost intolerable. Or could it be a bad batch of Lantus? I am Type 1 times 27 years.
Avatar m tn t want to get into a big discussion on whether or not it is available. I just want to know if it NEEDS to be refrigerated. Does it? What if you don't keep it cool? I don't want to get into taking a med that needs this kind of special treatment because it opens the door for lessened potency, of course. Could someone get to the bottom of this refrigerate or not Thyrolar issue?
915277 tn?1252573113 Anyone out there on Lantus, and have you heard about this and will you stop using Lantus due to this news?? What bothers me about this news is that the study seems a bit shaky...but, I also feel, where there is smoke, can fire be far behind?? I, myself, am thinking of changing to Levemir, at least until the experts decide what to do. Only because, I have enough health problems, if I can save myself some anguish, I think I will...What's your take on this issue??
1353681 tn?1387083733 With Lantus, I focused on getting to sleep around the same time every night, but now I have to also focus on waking up early on the weekends too. The other thing I liked about the switch was being able to use a flex pen instead of a vial. Not sure if Lantus comes in pens now, but that was a big benefit when I switched. No more syringes, just flexpen needles for everything.
Avatar n tn m not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. So have you already switched to Lantus and are seeing the gain? That isn't clear, but I presume that's the case. Yes, switching insulins can cause weight gain, as the body reacts differently to different insulins. Insulins can stimulate the body into causing fat production, and when the body has to learn to deal with a new insulin, it may very well react that way.
Avatar m tn Iam type 2 diabetic for app. 8 years. I have been taking LANTUS for app. 4 months now. For the last three months i have been experiencing swelling/pain of my hands, then foresrms, and now my shoulders and neck.My "doctor" seems to be oblivious to these issues. I have met two other people that had this issue and both stopped using LANTUS and the swelling/pain is going away. Has this side effect been reported before??
Avatar n tn Thank you so much for the responses, I have been to the doctors twice last week and I have another appointment on Monday to talk about getting a pump...I have been offered 2 pumps the Animas 2020 or the Paradigm with real-time glucose checks...I was skeptical about the pump but as I read on this forum and others they seam to only have good comments. Has anyone used either of the pumps I can choose from?
Avatar n tn I have type 1 diabetes and am on Lantus. I was wondering though what the difference between 70/30 and Lantus is. My understanding is that they are both long lasting insulins, but I don't know much else. Does anyone know?
Avatar f tn s a multi dose vial it does need to be refrigerated after opening. Sooo, which is it?? The vial contains 4 weeks worth of medication for me.
Avatar n tn This would seem to be the easiest to me but you would have to bolus a lot that one day to compensate. Like I said see the Dr. this can be really complicated. Long answer to a short question. Hope it helps some.
Avatar n tn If you are haing difficulty with Lantus, you have every right to ask to try an equivalent alternitive. If your doctor has a reson why he thinks this is not advisable, he will tell you. The switch from Lantus to Levemir for me required no dose adjustment, and it performed just as well as Lantus.
Avatar n tn I was warned by nurse that I might have reactions to the Lantus, but have not been able to get back to the clinic to find out if this is a normal reaction that will go away. So far, it does wax and wane so my motivation is confused. Will this go away after awhile?
Avatar n tn I would suggest that you wait to take your Lantus shot until you normally take it the next day. You may need to check your blood sugar a couple extra times and may need to increase your Novolog dosage at one or more meals. Just be careful and take less rather than more to be safe. Good luck.
Avatar n tn Thanks everyone for the quick feedback! Yes, I visit endo on a regular basis (I use an endo for primary care, so to speak) and will be visiting her office Thursday. I think more info from endo's needs to be given than "it's a non-peak insulin"...I've been puzzled by this for over 3 years now. Although my new endo (who is very aggressive and I like) first insisted that there is no peak, I stood up for my own personal patterns.
Avatar m tn Is it common for someone with type 2 diabetes to be on Humalog 3X daily and Lantus 1X daily?
Avatar n tn ll be sure to have it at full strength in the AM and if it does start to fizzle out, it will be later after dinner or toward your next where you are more likely to catch your blood sugar on the rise and can correct it with Humalog. Just don't make any huge dosing changes I had to slowly adjust my Lantus dose up higher with the help of my physician until I got my AM readings where I like them.
154668 tn?1290115995 During the day when you need the afternoon dose, it is OK to carry it with you, again as long as temps do not swing too extreme, for example it is not a good idea to leave it in your car but is OK to carry in your pocket. My choice is to leave it in the ref when possible, just to be on the safe side, but I do carry the afternoon dose in my pocket when I leave in the morning.
Avatar f tn Also, I cannot afford the insulin, but make too much money to be on assistance. I have insurance, but it is still expensive when you live paycheck to paycheck.
Avatar f tn I am a type 1A diabetic with normal insulin sensitivity and predictable bg responses to insulin doses. Until now. I went on a reducing diet (high protein, next to 0 carbs, increased exercise) but never decreased my once daily PM dose of Lantus (10 units.) Immediately my AM bg's jumped to over 200 and stayed there. No hypoglycemia during sleep (I never woke up, anyway.)I could bring my daily bg's down with my shortacting insulin.
Avatar n tn I am in constant pain & have pits and swollen arms and legs because my doctor told me to mix lantus & humolog insulins. I did so for 6 weeks & stopped taking the humolog on my own. That was about 6 months ago, but these conditions are still present. Has anyone in this forum ever had a problem with humolog.? If so, please answer me. I am a 75 year old woman & would appreciate any help you can give me. Thank You. Eileen.
Avatar f tn 8 or more now when is lantus then suppose to kick in . my mealtime insulien is 2 to 3 units at mealtime, Surely I have to give myself more lantus at night maybe 12 units.
Avatar n tn Ooh, this sounds miserable! I personally have not heard specifically of allergies to Lantus, but I have heard of people having allergies to other insulins. The allergy is not to the INSULIN, but to the agents that it is suspended in. The cases I remember from other people who have written in to ask about this kind of thing were usually hives in areas near where the insulin is injected, but I seem to remember one or two that just had hives in unrelated areas.
Avatar n tn Its difficult to trust any of the medicines out there too with all the lawsuits and recalls.People are telling me not to be my own doctor but I have to as a result of all this chaos.
Avatar n tn She takes only one shot of lantis a day. She takes this at bedtime. She has been on lantis for 5 months. (she used to take NPH) She does not notice as many peaks and valleys as when she was on NPH, however, she has heard from people other than medical professionals that it really only lasts 18 hours. My sister feels that being on lantis has helped her.
Avatar n tn I cannot understand why this overnight drop is happening, which is becoming scary. I tested BGs during the night and there seems to be a drop of 2 mmol/hour. I am forced to go to bed with readings around 20, so that I will wake up with 7-8. I tried to decrease my lantus intake from 28u to 21u, but the nighttime drop didnt decrase or disappaer, insated i started to have very high readings during daytime. I also tried to take lantus twice a day, but that didnt make any difference either.
