Does humalog need to be refrigerated

Common Questions and Answers about Does humalog need to be refrigerated

humalog

Avatar m tn t want to get into a big discussion on whether or not it is available. I just want to know if it NEEDS to be refrigerated. Does it? What if you don't keep it cool? I don't want to get into taking a med that needs this kind of special treatment because it opens the door for lessened potency, of course. Could someone get to the bottom of this refrigerate or not Thyrolar issue?
Avatar f tn s a multi dose vial it does need to be refrigerated after opening. Sooo, which is it?? The vial contains 4 weeks worth of medication for me.
Avatar n tn t) but because of the specifics that can play a role in why our ratios would be higher/lower and what factors might suggest we need to change our ratios over time.
Avatar n tn I went to a diabetes education class that teaches about the sliding scale and how to take your Humalog. However, my doc gave me a formula to use to counteract high blood sugars when not enough insulin has been taken. It's (bloodsugar) - 100 divided by 40. So, if your blood sugar is 300 you would subtract 100 to get 200. Divide that by 40 to get 5 units of Humalog. I also have a scale for when I eat. It's for every 15 grams of carbs I take 2 units of Humalog.
Avatar n tn Am curious to know if others have had similar experiences, and if so, what might be a solution to the problem.
Avatar m tn Is it common for someone with type 2 diabetes to be on Humalog 3X daily and Lantus 1X daily?
Avatar m tn insulin ratio (ie. how much Humalog you need to cover how much carbs/ protein). If you are going low overnight (how low?), then you need to be taking a lower dose of Humalog with your evening meal. What time do you eat dinner? Test your blood sugar before dinner. What is that number? Ideally it will be 80 - 100 range. Take your insulin, then eat your dinner, then test your blood sugar 2 hours after starting to eat dinner.
Avatar n tn Hi, danijo. I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. We've done the same thing, given a long acting shot instead of a short acting. Yes, he'll be ok, but you're going to need to monitor him VERY VERY closely. First of all, call your endo, they know your son better than I do, and they know the dosing better than me. You'll need to adjust the insulin you give him until tomorrow to take care of the differences.
154668 tn?1290115995 Does that mean long term storage or does that mean that we need to keep them cold if we go out for the afternoon?
Avatar n tn I have been taking the humalog after eating. So my numbers seem to be pretty high. I'm going to try taken it before eating to see if that works.
Avatar n tn Medtronic 512 and 712 - works with a blood glucose meter that sends results directly to the pump by radio frequency Deltec Cozmo - works with a blood glucose meter attached to it Animas - has several great features With an insulin pump you need to monitor blood glucose more frequently and be connected to the pump 24/7 but quality of life much improved over injections. Also, better blood sugar results and A1cs possible.
Avatar n tn not a physician) when I transitioned in the opposite direction you are going. Be sure to have a written record of your current basal settings. You may need to shift-in-time my basal settings. For example, let's say I had a basal rate of .5 from 12midnight until 4am when I was using Humalog in my pump. To get a similar basal coverage, I would "shift" that time to say ... 11pm - 4am. And do the same "shifting" for all my blocks of basal rates. Write 'em all down.
Avatar n tn I have been using Humulin R and just started using humulog in combination with this to try and put weight back on , lost about 25lbs . I seem to be having trouble with the humulog . I know our readings are different in canada , 5 to 7 is normal.I have had sugars as high as 32 and used 10 units of humalog , half an hour later I am 34 , I don't understand this ? What is the ratio of humalog to carbs ? I had the flu and I know it can really mess up your sugars , but this was a month ago .
Avatar n tn The 72-hour glucose monitor is used often by doctors to attempt to ascertain what kind of glucose patterns a patient is having or how certain foods or activities affect that patient's glucose readings. If you are having trouble fine-tuning your insulin regimen, then your doctor may hope that using this device for a short period of time will help him or her try to establish a better combination of basal dose and mealtiime bolus to keep your glucose levels more even-keeled than they are now.
Avatar m tn You are going to need to do basal testing to work out how much basal insulin you need. You will also need to bolus testing to work out your carb: insulin ratio. You can find information on this testing online. Also recommend the books: Using Insulin (John Walsh) and "Think Like a Pancreas'. Please do work out how to have good control. Such high blood sugars put you at risk of complications sooner than later.
Avatar n tn Great name, there, Oldstuff, I'm writing to echo what SS wrote to you. Seems that many Type 1 need the greater flexibility that a separate Long-acting & short-acting insulin provides. This is exactly what your son is doing by taking extra shots. Regular used to be our only choice in short-acting insulins, but now we have access to even quicker-acting insulins (Humalog & Novolog).
Avatar n tn My sister also has type 1 and takes lantus at bedtime and then takes humalog for correction AND to cover food with carbs, so in her case, if her BG is not High (if it IS under a particular number that she and her doc have discussed), then she does not need a correction shot AND if she was not going to eat anything containing carbs at that time, she would not need humalog to cover food, HOWEVER, she would still take her lantus shot at bedtime.
Avatar n tn Why is it that Lantus requires a prescription when other long-acting types of insulin do not? I feel like I should be able to go to a drugstore and purchase any type of insulin that I choose without a prescription.
Avatar n tn I give myself about 21 units of insulin per day--13 units of Lantus and a sliding scale of Humalog between 6-10 units--depending on how many carbohydrates I have eaten--So, it takes me about 2-3 months to use a bottle of Humalog and the Lantus would take longer, but I must open a new bottle every month for consistency issues. Does that help?
Avatar f tn We cannot recommend nor suggest adjustments to medication dosages as we are not privy to your medical records or history. That is question for your Endo.
Avatar n tn ll be sure to have it at full strength in the AM and if it does start to fizzle out, it will be later after dinner or toward your next where you are more likely to catch your blood sugar on the rise and can correct it with Humalog. Just don't make any huge dosing changes I had to slowly adjust my Lantus dose up higher with the help of my physician until I got my AM readings where I like them.
Avatar f tn I have been diabetic for ten years now and have been taking lantus and humalog this whole time. Well a new doctor Im seeing took me off lantus due to the fact that it could cause my twins to become insulin resistant. She has me taking more of the humalog but it doesn't seem to be helping me and now i have a harder time controlling my sugar where before i kept it pretty well controlled. Should i get a second opinion or does anyone have suggestions?
Avatar n tn com/health/drugs/humalog#humalog-vs-novolog Often Humalog is given with other medication along with it. You may need that approach.
1554089 tn?1294855456 I know most doctors scribble and what they scribble is hard to read, but if the pharmacist changed the prescribed Rx from Humalog 75/25 to straight Humalog, go to The FDA Medical Products Reporting Services web site, click on Reporting Serious Problems to the FDA, under Voluntary Reporting click Reporting by Consumers, download the form copy and take it to your doctor to fill out. While there get a new Rx and go to another pharmacy.
Avatar n tn I started controlling my blood sugar using Regular insulin About 3 years ago, my doctor moved me to humalog. Using humalog was not easy. I looked at the study that was done and it never reacted as expected when I used it. It was taking 2 hours to start working and in by the third hour my glucose level would drop 200 to 250. It was also hard for me to sense when my blood sugar is low. That was very frustrating. After six month of roller coaster, my doctor put me on Novolog.
Avatar n tn Lantus is a 24 hour insulin, so I am not sure what effects taking it in the morning opposed to taking it at night would be, but of course ask. Also ask your endocronologist about taking your humalog before meals, I am not sure if you meant that or if you do just take it before bed time. And are you eating a snack when you take humolog before bed? Humalog is a quick acting inulin, usually taken before meals.
