Does estrogen patch cause weight gain

Common Questions and Answers about Does estrogen patch cause weight gain

vivelle-dot

I say this because it typically is the Lack of Estrogen that will cause weight gain and not the abundance. On the other hand, since you are also taking progesterone, you may have been out of balance between the two hormones. My other thought is that you may be the type of person who does really well on progesterone without added Estrogen, although the more I research recent studies on this, those people are few and far between.
I was put on the 10 estrogen patch. Does anyone have experience on the estrogen patch Vivelle-Dot, and if so did you like it? How long was your adjustment period if you had surgical menopause and was put on an estrogen supplement? I do have, what I believe might be mild hot flashes..I feel like I'm hot and I'm running a fever but I'm not.
There have been a number of studies on estrogen and weight gain and estrogen is believed not to increase weight. Many women do gain weight and believe it is due to estrogen, but the studies don't support it. Some increase in breast size and some fluid retention do happen. Having your ovaries out can also affect your thyroid hormone levels and that can cause weight gain. Ask your doctor to check your thyroid levels. Machelle M.
if you gain fat (not a problem with muscle weight gain). Then, if you begin losing weight (i.e. burning fat), this stored estogen is released. I have a friend who lost some weight after started a progesterone supplementation. For me, progesterone causes weight gain, partially from water retention. If it's not one thing, then it is another, isn't it?!
I am SCARED TO DEATH of two side effects I was told welbutrin can cause. 1. seizures 2. weight gain Can anyone here put my mind at ease?
I had a hyster in 05. Same situation as all of you. I have gained 23lbs after working at Weight Watchers and losing 52lbs in 03. I have started researching weight gain and hysterectomies just yesterday. I am a Christian, believer in JC.
we all are having the same problems and the catch 22 of weight gain which leads to depession which leads to weight gain etcl Any experts out there with a natural solution to losing weight with no pills. I would love to hear from someone!!
I don't know if you take any other meds, some antidepressants can cause weight gain...just throwing out some ideas. I think it is a good idea to get your hormone levels checked and see where all of it is...
This has worked well, as it does not have side effects or weight gain. It was not comfortable being put in though, especially if you have a tipped uterus, which I do, and I wish I would have known this and taken something for pain ahead of it's placement. I finally feel that the Depo Provera is starting to leave my body. I believe it is stored in the fat I still have.
I had the marina and actually just got it taken out today because of pains in my stomach, weight gain, mood swings, and head aches. It is different for everyone but if you are haveing any problems take it out...My doctor told me that the side effects I was haveing was not due to the IUD I guess we will see in a week or so how I feel. To the women going to get it done, it does hurt like hell but if it works for you go for it.
There are a few common misconceptions about weight gain and aging that I’d like to address. First, hormone supplements don’t cause weight gain - menopause, in general, with or without hormones, is associated with about a 10 pound gain. This often starts in perimenopause so it could occur as early as the 40’s. Second, lean muscle mass decreases slowly from mid-30’s probably until menopause when it decreases more steeply.
I finally realized that my size has varied through my weight. I hear that HGH does the trick, I bet it would increase size seeing as how it would increase your blood flow and your circulation ( more blood = bigger penis ). Your probably asking, " what about a big fat *** mother fucka, why wouldnt they all have big dicks?', well im no doctor but I realized that fat is not going to help blood flow, matter of fact, it hinders it.
increase production of testosterone causes an elevated level of LH in your system around ovulation time, as the egg matures instead of dropping like it should- it stays in your ovary and becomes a cyst. Symptoms of this- weight gain, facial hair, hair below the navel, or on the toes, deepening of the voice, irregular periods, ovulary pain, and increased risk of miscarriage (in some studies up to 30%).
I had Mirena put in in Feb 2005 and had every side effect imaginable (weight gain, acne, cramps, sore lumps in breasts, headaches, etc.) About one year into having Mirena, my periods stopped all together. Finally I could not handle the side effects anymore, so on Oct 4 2007 I had it removed. The day after, I started a light period that lasted for 4 days. Nothing since then. If my body was going to return to a 28 day cycle, I should have started 4 days ago.
Since you have high blood pressure, it is good to lower any additional risk for stroke or blood clots. Although you did gain weight while on estrogen, studies suggest that estrogen does not increase weight gain significantly. Aging does increase weight because metabolism slows down. So it will be important to look at how much you are eating, what food choices you are making, and how much you exercise to burn off what you eat before we can say if the weight gain was due to estrogen.
Been on prozac since March dr messed with dose till finally by late June i went to 50 mg...im also on wellbutrin, well weight gain and other problems dr said to cut back on prozac 10 mg a week, been doing that im down to 30 mg but i have bad depression like when i first began prozac,i was added a estrogen patch this past friday,i have no energy and im tired all the time..
Also to mention that a weight gain of so much weight also can be a cause of a heightening of the hot flushes. Fat stores estrogen and it's believed that estrogen is partially to blame for the hot flushes. There often isn't enough progesterone in the body to offset the extra estrogen and very often, doctors will make the mistake of giving estrogen when the real problem is a lack of progestrone.
Progesterones may increase breast cancer risk, promote weight gain, cause depression, increase cholesterol, and do not prevent bone loss. The use of testosterone in menopausal women has been studied and shows some benefit at low doses to treat vasomotor symptoms and decreased libido. Higher dosages have been associated with elevated cholesterol, triglycerides, male pattern hair growth, and acne. So what are the FDA-approved Bioidentical Hormones?
Most of the shift is due to the estrogen. Estrogen will not cause weight gain..it is the loss of estrogen that causes much of this. Yeah, I wouldn't want you to try the bodyrolling massage for adhesions since it sounds like you are dealing with something different. I would, though, encourage you to pick up Vliet's book so you can get information that would help you become more comfortable with the whole hormone issue. It is a HUGE topic, as you can imagine.
If I were you and you are not sure HRT is for you, I would get a second opinion. I choose to take the injections just when I need them instead of being put on a medication that stay in your system all the time. I can say that I have not had any problem at all. The bonus is that it increases your sex drive. I think it is just whichever you think will work for you. I take alot of other medications and I did not to take anymore pills, and I am allergic to adhesive so the patch was out.
these can be seen ( and treated via laproscopy) suggestion your right ovary may not be producing enough hormones. symptoms you indicate depression and weight gain almost confirm that. Ask for hormone level check and please resurch bio identical hormones its a safe easy "cure" for your symptoms especially since you seem to lead a very healthy life style...
I could not figure out why I was feeling poorly. I also had an immediate weight gain (bad enough that I have to constantly watch my weight... this was not pleasant). I was bloated and uncomfortable. I called the pharmacist after about the fifth day I was on that regimen and he explained the difference in prescriptions and stated that there are many women who do not tolerate a high amount of Estriol. I switched back immediately to the other dosage.
Well I used the patch and I was fine, no weight gain no weird hormones, had shorter lighter periods.
There are various schools of thoughts out there and you have to do a lot of sifting. I recommended a few books already on the thread about weight gain on this forum. And, I will update my profile when I get a chance. Just know that there is hope. I would not do well without the hormones I use... Depression, mental clarity issues, fatigue, deep bone pains in arms and legs, bone loss (I have had that twice and reversed it both times), irritability, forgetfulness, insomnia,.... ok...
Since interferon affects seratonin why wouldn't it affect estrogen? I'm wondering because I use an estrogen patch which pretty much guarantees me a steady level of the hormone (i.e. the interferon can't interfere with that) and I've been wondering if that's why I haven't had any of the ribarage issues--at least not so far. Honestly, I was crankier before I started tx than I have been since.
Some people have horror stories about withdrawing from Paxil but I didn't and I know of at least one other person who had no problems with stopping the paxil. I did not gain weight on the paxil and in fact lost a lot while on it (one had nothing to do with the other cause I lost the weight years later on the paxil).
Did you mean that the menstrual period lasts 5-6 weeks or your cycle is 5-6 weeks (ie, menses every 5-6 weeks)? The microor does not have estrogen, so that may help a little.
Oh my gosh Barb It is what put it on for me. Now they can say "all is normal in the tests" but what I learned is it may not be in the right ratios. Like me - In my FSH labs my estrodiol is within the right ranges but comparing to the progestrone - it shows I am not in a balance in producing the progestrone as much as I am producing estrodiol. Estrogen dominance! Putting me on the progestron in the short time I have been on it has been really great.
I am 28 years old, have 2 kids, and had an abdominal hysterectomy 2 weeks ago. The doctor said my uterus was enlarged, dropped and tilted. I was having pain durring intercourse. I didn't enjoy sex anymore and it was causing problems in my marriage. The doctor told me the only solution was hysterectomy, so I did it. He did abdominal and he also tacked my ovaries up. I am regreting it now, for several reasons.
