7378022 tn?1390751481 It actually may not be kennel cough. Many things can make them sneeze, from an allergy to something to sniffing a glass that contained an alcoholic beverage. As far as the cough, chihuahuas and other small dogs are commonly afflicted with collapsing tracheas, and palpating the throat is a way to trigger that when looking for it. I would just keep an eye on her. Kennel cough causes a loud, honking cough, famous for keeping owners awake at night.

415109 tn?1304890182 I would take him back to the vet if he is still coughing. It could be an UTI/kennel cough and needs to be treated with antibiotics. If not, then it may progress into the lungs. Also immune boosting supplements will help. There are SOME cough syrups you can give to dogs, but you have to be VERY careful of the ingredients and dosage, and it would be best to ask your vet which they recommend. Another possibility is reverse sneezing..

1491913 tn?1288486935 Do you think he could have something stuck in his throat? There is another thing that dogs sometimes do, and that's called "Reverse sneezing" Take a look at some videos of dogs doing this Reverse Sneezing (there are some on youtube) And see if the sound he makes is anything like that. Reverse Sneezing is harmless, and no-one really knows the cause, but many dogs do it.
Avatar f tn It would probably be best to take your dog back to the vet for chest X-Rays to make sure that he is not developing pneumonia. Especially since your dog's cough has evolved from a dry cough to a productive cough with colored phlegm. He may need an additional antibiotic, cough medication, and additional diagnostics such as a culture and sensitivity or a transtracheal wash.
Avatar f tn I just adopted a dog from pound 3 days after being home she came down with kennel cough she is being treated with antibotics, my question is should I get rid of her chew bones? can she reinfest with the cough if her phlem is on them ?
Avatar n tn I agree with Karla, it sounds like Kennel Cough to me. Kennel cough often resolves itself as long as it's not a real serious case of it. There has been good results treating this disease with azithromycin. Sanchez is certainly an adorable little boy! I hope he is back to normal again soon! Please keep us updated.
Avatar m tn An Herbal Canine Cough remedy you might consider that is helpful to relieve coughing associated with Canine Kennel Cough is Slippery elm and the dose is 5ml which is the equivalent of one teaspoon by mouth, as needed. Should your dogs cough continue, checking in with your vet would be warranted and chest x-rays along with a complete blood panel would be helpful to determined the underlying cause of the canine cough.
Avatar f tn Well it was kennel cough. We saw the other vet in the office. She's on meds n got a shot. They haven't even been around any other dogs, but he said that they could've gotten it from running the fence with a neighbor dog.
Avatar f tn Sounds like kennel cough. That will not kill your puppy, but you need to get her to a vet for antibiotics. It'll take your puppy 1-4 weeks to get over the hacking cough, depending on how long she's had the cough and how badly it's supressed her immune system. As for losing teeth, that's normal. Her baby teeth are falling out and adult teeth will grow in, just like children's teeth do.

507241 tn?1225491785 After adopting a dog from a shelter my dog was diagnosed with kennel cough. This has been one week now.How long will this last ?? My vet put her on antibiotics and he is away for a few days.
694466 tn?1227677802 Since then she has been sneezing when she gets excited or runs around too much. She also has been hacking. At first I thought it was kennel cough, but heartworm also seems to be a possibility. How can I tell which it is?
Avatar n tn normal inoculations but not kennel cough. coughs several times and then seems to have to dig into his throat for a final clearing cough although nothing is produced. Has no heart problems. is running around on his walks like a 2 year old. Does not cough as much when out walking. My vet seemed to think it was nothing and he has suffered from little warts, one of which had to be taken off in an operation. Found nothing in his throat then. lives inside and is looked after.
1756475 tn?1330538713 Have both your dogs been vaccinated against kennel cough? Distemper is also a more serious concern, particularly if your dog has not been vaccinated against this sometimes fatal virus.
Avatar f tn It could be kennel cough. Kennel cough causes coughing that sounds like whopping cough and can be so severe that can actually lead to vomiting. Other possibilities are collapsing trachea, heart disease and allergies. Benadryl can be tried at 1 mg per pound. The average Shih Tzu would require a 12.5 mg. tablet up to 4 times per day. Kennel cough may require antibiotics and cough medicine, if severe.
Avatar f tn My dogs are recovering from kennel cough too. One of my dogs got over the cough in just two days, but my other dog has had the cough since the second week of July. She just finished her antibiotics and prednisone and now she's on cough syrup, the pediatric robutussin, three times a day. She's still coughing, but not as much as last week. I think it's just something you have to wait out.
