Avatar n tn Im 25 years old and also having a hard time finding info on colon polyps in young people. I have no family history of polyps or other digestive problems mentioned on this board. Recently, i had a colonoscopy and ultrasound performed for abdominal cramping/hot flash/feverish feeling/ and consistently abnormal bowels over a 6 month timespan. The ultrasound revealed I have a 1cm polyp in my gallbladder (so i will get it removed soon) and, much to my Dr.
Avatar f tn You do need to be aware of your families health history(Has anyone in your family had any of those diseases I mentioned or colon cancer?) You should go to a doctor regardless, again because if you have been having blood in your bowel movements for years, you run the risk of being anemic. Meaning your body is continuously losing blood. Your doctor will check you for probable causes like hemorrhoids, etc. Most common reasons for blood at your age.
Avatar n tn Recently has 3 or more polyps removed for a second time. Just found out surgeon also fould a very large mass in lower colon and just left it and did not tell me about it my regular doctor did. Why would he have not removed this mass? My usual doctor didn't have a clue why not. I am practically incontinent at this time. I am a 69 year old malemwith diabetes and am abese. Have perephial artery disease. Have been told heart is enlarged and told it isn't.
Avatar m tn But I am not sure when to go back to get tested again. Polyps run in my family on both sides, and my moms mom died of colon cancer in her early 70's but it was never caught until late so they assume it started in her 60's. So do I go get the full colonoscopy? The doctor never said what to do next. I know 2 people age 32 and 34 that haev colon cancer and never had signs. So not sure what to do next.
160332 tn?1207762545 My great grandma died of colon cancer... and other colon problems run in the family, like IBS and polyps. And of course everyone in my family that has had these problems were much much older than I. I'm 27/M in great shape, I lift weights, going to college, raising my son, very busy! Anyway I have had bowel problems IBS for a long time, but I have noticed over the past year an increase in a slight amount of blood when im at the end of my "wipe".
Avatar n tn Hi, you did not mention the diameter of your polyps. Small polyps can be missed in the first colonoscopy. Also, it depends on whether you've been eating healthy (red meat and low vitamin D speed the growth). Finally, you might ask your doctor to do a genetic testing if they keep growing in large numbers. You also didn't mention where the polyps were found.
Avatar n tn Im a 22 yr old male and my GI doctor did found dozens and dozens of polyps in my colon. After the biopsy we found them to be precancerous. I am now in the process of scheduling my total collectomy. I dont know what to expect.. i dont know how to deal with this at such a young age.. can anyone help me? Im a bit distrot over this.. and my wife is having a hard time as well.
Avatar f tn Has anyone in your family been diagnosed with colon cancer at an early age? Your son is very young to have a polyps and nodules. I would find a different pediatric GI doctor and get a second opinion. There is an hereditary colon disease that presnts with polyps at a very young age. I've had 5 family members diagnosed with it and lost a son and grandson. Get a second opinion and definitely not from someone your current doctor would recommend.
Avatar m tn Also, it has now been documented through many studies that an aspirin regimen is effective in preventing polyps and even reducing them in size. Don't let your doctor discourage you from this. Find a GI who knows the facts and will work with you on this.
577395 tn?1277401364 Hi....finding multiple polyps in one this age is common and that's why they tell us to start getting scoped at 50, so this is not unusual for your dad. They always biopsy the polyps when removed and unless he's been having bleeding or pain, I feel they'll come back okay. Hepatic Flexure is the area of the colon that lies between the liver and pancreas and that is how it gets it's name.
Avatar m tn Why is it that the polyps keep reoccurring in such a short time? I heard it was uncommon but the surgeon said sometimes they may be missed the first time around. Do I have higher risks of developing colon cancer? I was told as long as I got checkups and had them removed I would be fine and have the polyps controlled.
Avatar m tn fast forward to 2011, saw a surgeon just last week and had a sigmoidoscopy two months after colonoscopy ugggh, anyhow he said that there are a few polyps in rectal area, most of them are in the transverse, hepatic flexure, and ascending colon.
Avatar f tn Through colonoscopy Doctor can examine your colon to identify the polyps which are lead to colon cancer. All polyps are not cause colon cancer and if he find any polyps that cause cancer they can be removed.
Avatar n tn Why polyps have been grown so fast in my colon, particularly why the polyps found in the last two years all had moderate dysplasia? Does it mean that there are some demons in my digest system or in my body that have been making these pre-cancerous conditions in my colon? 2. Do I need do some further exam, such as CT, ultrasound scans or CA19-9, CEA blood tests to exlude some potential bad causes in my digest sysytem or other related part of my body?
Avatar n tn Hi, I don't want to worry you, but do you have a history of colon cancer in your family? I ask this because we do, and the first symptom were mutliple polyps in the colon. BUT with our disease the polyps don't appear until around age 10 and through puberty. Polyps always start out benign and can, not always, turn malignant. The disease in our family is FAP, and my children were being scoped yearly for this. They were found in both my sons at ages 12 & 16, and my grandson @ 10.
Avatar m tn My doctor could not complete the colonscopy due to my long colon. (I have a tortuous colon.) Here is my problem - he saw 3 polyps, but could only reach 1 of them to remove. He wants me to return for another optical colonoscopy, where he will "put me all the way under" (anesthesia), then attempt to remove the other 2 polyps he saw, then attempt to look at the rest of the colon and remove any more polyps. I am scared.
Avatar m tn I was really hoping to wake up to good news and a clean bill of health. Instead, he found 20 small polyps. My heart sank. 16 of these were in the ascending colon. I was still groggy, and I need to have a follow up visit after the biopsies come back, but he said it’s possible I may have to have that part of the colon removed somewhere down the line. Has anyone else had a problem with polyps like this? I am at the very beginning of researching this.
Avatar f tn The scope showed that she has 3 small polyps in her small intestine and lots of inflamation in her colon (caused by the diarrhea). They felt that none of these things explained the cause. We ended up putting in a central IV and giving her TPN for nutritian and stopped all formula (she is Gtube fed). After about 6 weeks with the TPN and steroids, the diarrhea improved. Two weeks later she was put on amoxicillin for a sinus infection. After 2 doses, the diarrhea was back, and bad!
Avatar f tn Have 3 large polyps on right side of colon got to have surgery is there any concerns?
Avatar n tn I have a half brother that died from colon cancer. My family has a history of polyps, thus I had my first colonoscopy at 37 (2 polyps) then at 46 (2 polyps) All benign thankfully. I've had complete annual physicals for the past 5 years and all good thankfully. I am due for a colonoscopy and am stressing about more polyps. Also have anxiety and that's flaring up because of the colonoscopy. Should I be concerned? Thank you!
1506428 tn?1290113504 They found three small polyps in my cecum (1-2mm) and one mid-sized polyp in my mid ascending colon (6-8mm). Also, there were large discontinuous areas of inflammation in my ascending and descending colon with large amounts of adherent mucus. They removed all of the polyps and took tissue samples for histology and virology (they are testing for C.
Avatar f tn Familial Adenomatous Polyposis is an hereditary colon disease. It usually presents with polyps in the colon starting at the age of 10, and depending on the type of FAP the polyps do turn cancerous either in the 30's or late 40's. It's extremely rare to develop colon cancer at your age even when this disease is in the family. The three of you need to meet with a Gastroenterologist to determine if this is what is in your family.
Avatar n tn a new study shows that eating three servings of fish per week appears to cut the risk of developing colon polyps that could lead to cancer. Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health and Vanderbilt University in Tennessee surveyed more than 5,300 individuals about their eating habits. All of those surveyed also had colonoscopies.
