Avatar n tn ECG last month showed SVES, RBBB. This week he has stress test with dipyridamole protocol, and injection of thallium-201. The result showed "evidence of mild, small to medium size, irreversible perfusion defect in the inferior/inferolateral wall (mid to basal level)." Could you explain what this means? Does he need to have surgery or pacemaker? thanks in advance for your help.
Avatar m tn My father 64 yrs went through a Thallium Stress test. His report reads the following, Could some one help me understand what it really means. He has had not heart ailments so far. He is Hypertensive and diabetic and takes regular medicines and is very strict with his diet and exercises daily. The report Stress Isotope myocardial perfusion scintigraphy done following i/v injection of 300 MBq at rest and 900 MBq of Tc99m Sesta-MIBI at Bruce. Mr. U.D. carried out exercise for 10:30 mins.
Avatar n tn I am worried that I may end up with another MI. My cardiologist is not worried but has recommended Stress Thallium for my satisfaction. My question is what will be a better option, a stress thallium or CT angiogram. Please advise. Thanks in advance. Note: Earlier I participated on this forum as tinu1959.
Avatar m tn The adverse effects experienced are similar to those with use of adenosine. While adverse effects are less frequent with dipyridamole (47% of patients), they tend to be more serious than those associated with adenosine. The most common adverse effects of dipyridamole are chest pain (19%), headache (12%), and hypotension (4.6%). In addition, 12% of patients require aminophylline for reversal of adverse effects.
1016145 tn?1253498064 There are many names for this same thing. Nuclear perfusion test, nuclear stress test, thallium stress test, thallium scan etc etc. Maybe they should standardise on the name to make it less confusing.
Avatar f tn Thallium stress tests utilize thallium-201, with a physical half-life of about three days. This means that the activity or emissions from a vial of thallium-201 will decrease by half every three days. Thus, after three days, the activity will be one-half of the initial activity. After six days it will be about one-fourth of the initial activity, and so forth.
Avatar f tn Persantine is dipyridamole, but you will have to get extended release tablets as the two asprin and dipyridamole should not be taken together. Don’t change the medications without discussing with your doctor. So, consult him and then decide. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn During a stress test, a radioactive material called Thallium is injected into a vein. A gamma camera takes pictures of the Thallium in your heart. the EKG and Echo were at rest and they are Fine ! now A Thallium Stress test just to see how your heart Managing the blood during stress.
Avatar m tn What is nonreversible apical inferior wall and what does it mean when they say no dipyridamole-induced reversible ischemia .there is mild defect in the apical inferior wall that is not reversible at rest.
Avatar m tn While you are taking Aggrenox (aspirin/dipyridamole), you should avoid taking over-the-counter pain medicine, especially any other products containing aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Also, Avoid alcohol, or drink a minimal amount, as the combination of Aggrenox and alcohol could cause stomach bleeding.
Avatar m tn Hi, My dad suffers from block in his heart. In a single vein he has 2 blocks one of 50% - 60% and the other 75%. The specialist who performed the angioplast said that he needs to do Echo Thallium & Echo Stress Test but the other doctor said that it can be medically corrected. And also i wanted to know are both the above mentioned test required or 1 test should do? Which one? This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/867902'>Stress thallium vs.
Avatar n tn Some of the alternatives include aspirin, Clopidogrel (Plavix), ticlodipine (Ticlid), dipyridamole (Persantine). Another alternative is Heparin injection. Different situations require different levels of anticoagulation. It is important to discuss the best treatment option with a physician.
Avatar m tn that did not impact my thallium test. The only possible conflicts could be if injecting you with the thallium isotope was a problem, or your overall health made doing stressful physical exercise risky. But if you don't have any of those problems you should be good to go. It's a workout, but have fun!!
512736 tn?1211343352 d CAD is greatly increased by performing a nuclear perfusion study in conjunction with the stress test. A radioactive substance called thallium (or a similar substance called sestamibi or Cardiolite) is injected into a vein during exercise. The thallium collects in the parts of the heart that have good blood flow. Pictures of the heart are taken with a special camera that can image the radioactivity of the thallium.
Avatar f tn I suffered a mild stroke (blood clot) Consultant prescribed Clopidogrel but cannot tolerate side effects. Then consultant prescribed Dipyridamole. I cannot tolerate this either. Severe headache, vomiting and diarrhoea. Has anybody got a different medication they are on?
Avatar m tn since 2 years he has been experiencing BREATHLESSSNESS,at certain times. His THALLIUM STRESS TEST was done to rule out any heart problems, like blocks etc.The test results were good, with EF at 65 or so.but he still has the problem. We are confused what is causing the breathlessness. Some doctors say, thallium stress test is good enough, and we need not go for angiograpjy. We are confused what we should do.pls advise.
Avatar m tn The thallium scan helps determine if areas of the heart do not receive enough blood. The exercise thallium scan is especially useful in diagnosing coronary artery disease, the presence of blockages in the coronary arteries (the vessels that supply oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle). Yes, it would be appropriate to take a stress test to determine if there are any vessel occlusions that may be blocking a good and adequate blood supply to the heart cells.
Avatar n tn I had a Stress Test yesterday afternoon in my Cardiologist office...did the treadmill. They were out of the 'regular' drug used on my last test so they were using Thallium. I did fine until this morning I have developed a major headache. I do have migraines but this is NOT a normal migraine H/A and at this point (hopefully want get there) is NOT a migraine...but is really concerning me. Could it be from the Thallium? How long will it last? Do I need to call my Cardiologist?
900662 tn?1469390305 Reverse redistribution (RR) abnormality is a phenomenon unique to thallium stress test. It is seen occasionally during re-injection phase of thallium-201 It has a complex and somewhat controversial explanation, but essentially there is an imbalance between thallium entering the heart tissue (dependent on blood flow) and leaving it (dependent on muscle cell health). What RR actually represents depends on why the patient got the test (fresh heart attack? old heart attack?
Avatar n tn tall - 134lbs, walk at least 1 mile several times/week, good cholesterol. Had a normal thallium stress test done in 1998 because of PVC, and a normal Holter monitor in 2001 for continued rapid heart beat and HBP. Family history of heart disease on father's side...my father had several minor heart attacks beginning at age 50.
Avatar m tn I just had the Stress Echo Test and my doctor states I passed the test, however, he saw something with the EKG and recommended a Thallium Stress Test. I run 6 days a week and lift light weights daily. Sometimes, I run twice a day, once in the morning and a 15 minute hill burner on the treamill in the evening. I have always run since the age of 18 years. Nver shortness of breath, I am now 57 years old and 166 llbs.
Avatar f tn I had a stress thallium done and got the report today. It shows 2mm ST depression inferolateral leads-abnormal. Myocardial profusion scan normal, no wall motion abnormalities. I am a 37 yr old female, overweight with a strong family history of early heart disease. It was a chemical stress thallium and they wouldn't let me walk on the treadmill instead.
Avatar n tn I recently had an abnormal thallium test showing inferior-apical ischemia. Calcium score was zero. My cardiologist considers the thallium test a false positive. I also have an unrelated arrythmia (pvc's) for the past 10 years controlled with atenolol. I am considered high risk for cardiac cath due to the arrythmia. In addition I have mild plaque in both carotid arteries.
