Avatar f tn My arrythmia continues to disrupt my life. My EP highly recommended Amiodarone and another ablation but I have no faith in the meds nor the ablation. In research that I have done online I located information on a mini maze and thought that might be a better option. I found a surgeon who does the mini maze and went to him for a consultation. In reviewing my records he decided the Cox Maze was the best procedure because I have had so many episodes of Afib and flutter.
Avatar n tn I have been receiving treatment for arrhythmia from the VA for about 10 years now (1999). I have had the shocks, the medication Amiodarone and now a pace maker. I take 240 MG's of Diltiazem twice a day, 100 MG of Metoprolol twice a day and one table (.125) of Digoxin a day. My last visit to the Pace Maker clinic showed that in the past 90 days it had recorded 887 instances of my heart rate going over 160 bpm's.
Avatar n tn I had atrial fib in 2005, had a successful cardioverson done in 2006. I went back into Atrial Fib sometime this winter. I seem to become lethargic, tired, and depressed. The first time I went to the doctor he said he was sure I was fine, 3 months later I returned and told him I was not getting better, something was wrong, sure enough he listens to my heart and orders a EKG, I'm in Atril Fib once again. This time seeing a different cardiologist.
Avatar m tn I am 67 years years old and was diagnosed with ventricular tachycardia last march, was prescribed "amiodarone" which resulted in a lung toxicity that almost cost me my life. I am left with a permantly disabling loss of lung function, cant return to work and my normally active lifestyle is over.If you go on medication for your arrythmia be cautious and check it out well on the internet.
1317224 tn?1378705134 After 5 weeks, I went into intermittent afib. Because it was intermittent, the doctor did not want to cardiovert. I was put on Diltiazem but it did not help restore a normal sinus rhythm. The doctor put me on amiodarone yesterday. My CEP said "It has lots of side effects in the long-term but I want to let your heart heal from the ablation so we'll have you on it for 5 weeks max.
Avatar f tn I have occasional atrial fibrillation and I only take 200 mg of Amiodarone a day as well as 50 mg of Metoprolol twice a day. The combination seems to be working fine. I am sorry to hear you have to take so much medication. I'm shocked.
Avatar n tn He also put me on Diltiazem ER, with instructions to take three 30mg diltiazem fast acting, 30 minutes apart for an episode (which I just had this evening).........I add a 7.5 mg Tranxene, and that seems to help end it.......I'm nort an anxious person, but it's my opinion that my brain just automatically goes into that state when my heart is beating that fast and erratic.........
Avatar f tn I've had 3 ablations since January this year (2011) to get rid of arrythmias but they keep coming back and this time are worst than ever. Dr. put me on Amiodarone 200 mg but I'm affraid of the side effects but I feel so sick that decided to take them I had my first pill today 08/28/2011. I really don't want to take this pill but what can I do?
Avatar n tn I am currently on 30 mg of diltiazem 3x day and i was wondering how effective is this dose at bring down your blood pressure. and how much would it bring it down. a rough estimate would be great. for i am hoping to come off of this medicine.
Avatar n tn I was to take one daily and my cardiologist would determine when I should come off Amiodarone. I took Amiodarone for 62 days. My cardiologist took several EKGs and Echo’s and determined there was no Afib so I came off Amiodarone. I was doing real well in recovery and finished my cardio rehab. A month later I started to get some shortness of breath and a racing heart beat. We both agreed that I should go back on Amiodarone.
Avatar m tn I think you have to weigh the significant risks involving ablation and the location of your accessory pathway vs. drug therapy and living with your condition. How often do your events occur? Are you able to convert them yourself by some means; Valsalva, etc.? At 30 years old, time is on your side. Perhaps a new technique in the next decade will make your particular situation less risky. Verapamil is a serious, Class IV anti arrhythmic that is indicated for SVT.
Avatar f tn Everytime I went to the hospital for my a-fib or a-flutter that would not stop, they cardioverted me with amiodarone. From what I understand and was told by 2 EP's that amiodarone works very well for a-fib , however they would not let me take it for long term due to my age. I was told the side effects from long term use was to risky. So I was put on rhythmol then atenolol and then finally sotalol with cardizem.
Avatar n tn It went well, except on the third day in the hospital I developed atrial fib which returned to normal rhythm in seven hours with the help of an IV drip of amiodarone. I was released two days later and sent home with orders to take 200mg of amiodarone a day for three months. My strength is returning and i'm exercising about an hour each day with no ill effects. My blood pressure is good and I have a good appetite, The only other drug I'm currently taking is 80mg of pravachol daily.
Avatar m tn BP is relatively normal. I take indapmide for that (From my regular doctor). In fact when my cardilolgist put me on diltiazem, he took me off indapamide. That didn't last long. The diltiazem did nothing for my BP. It went back up (Only talking +/- 140/90), so let me add bavk the indapamide. So, that is not an issue. Just the MVP/ diltazem issue. The pulse can stay n the 60's for awhile. At most during the day, in the 80's. (Of course, that is only when the rythym is normal).
1622431 tn?1299070442 I have recently been diagnosed with pacs, and my doctor put me on diltiazem. Can any one tell me from experience how effective this treatment is?
Avatar n tn I have to take thyroid medication because of the Amiodarone. It can also cause lung problems. Now, after all the negatives, I have to say that Amiodarone is a great medication for controlling heart arrhythmias, however, according to my doctor it should be used as a last resort.
Avatar m tn His surgeon mentioned possible pacemaker, but was put on amiodarone since surgery. He has been on amiodarone 6 months. No afib since surgery. He now has hypothyroidism and would like to stop the amiodarone. The cardiologist says ok to stop amiodarone. My understanding is that with a low EF his risk of AFIB or other arrythmia is high. Should he stop and see how he does?or try to become a candidate for a pacemaker?
Avatar f tn A year ago in March 09, I was given Amiodarone for a month, during which time I experienced alopecia universalis, brain fog and 50 pounds of water weight. My hair began to grow back in late August however only 15 pounds of the water has come off. Do you have any idea how to eliminate Amiodarone from my system or is there something I can do to restore my body back to normal? Again, thyroid replacements have not worked.
Avatar n tn New doctor has taken me off 100mg Amiodarone and replaced with 25mg toprol XL. I am experiencing dizziness, extreme sensitivity to heat and sunlight, confussion...I have waited a week thinking the side effects would subside. Internet research has led me to believe that the amiodarone can stay in my system for up to ninety days...or is it the beta blocker I am having a bad reactiont to??? Did the amiodarone damage my eyes? My vision has declined substantially over the past two years.
Avatar n tn He said I might put an 88 year old on Amiodarone not a 48 year old. He took me off the Amiodarone and I am just on Toprol, Xarelto and HCTZ. Do I have to go back to the cardiologist that put me on the Amiodarone? Or would you just say no! Do I have to have a Cardiologist as well as a EP guy? Just wondering what is your opinion?
Avatar n tn I dont know about your blood pressure meds.. but I do not understand why your on amiodarone. Amiodarone is a very strong arrythma medication and is usually used on folks who have had afib for a very long time and other meds dont work... Amiodarone has some pretty serious side effects.... and its my personal opinion, but I wouldnt want to be on it unless it was absolutely necessary. I had afib for 12-13 years and finally had if fixed a couple of years ago with an ablation...
Avatar f tn My mother has a pacemaker and is taking Amiodarone and Warfarin (all since 11th January). She is 85 and was in remarkably good health, despite her arrhythmia. Up until 11th January she was walking two miles a day, and gardening, now she is too weak to go anywhere. She had not taken any drugs for her arrhythmia prior to the Amiodarone. Since mid February, she has been coughing a great deal and is becoming increasingly breathless.
