First time, adenosine failed twice to bring down 180+ pulse. Diltiazem given, and worked. Sent home with extended-release 120mg diltiazem. Experienced breakthrough arrhythmias and eventual return to tachycardia 170bpm that lasted 8 hours before heading to the ER again. Given fast-acting diltiazem 60mg, which seems to be working so far, although I'm still experiencing arrhythmias. Cardiologist preliminarily diagnosed AVNRT and recommended ablation asap.

If one never had swollen gums after taking Diltiazem Hydrochloride Extended-release Capsules USP for years and then suddenly has swollen gums (no redness or infection) could the Diltiazem suddenly cause this after getting a "deep cleaning" of the teeth, or 'probing for pocket depths' at a dentist?

It makes them completely go away until it wears off which is about 24 hours (extended release 240), Just curious if anyone knows why doctors do not prescribe these to more patients for PAC/PVC because they seem to work.

Looking to safely taper off of my calcium channel blocker diltiazem extended release capsules. I have been on them a little over one year. My blood pressure is perfect and was perfect prior to my heart surgery. The only reason I am on them is because I had a large tumor in my heart and once I had my open heart surgery I developed post-op SVT, afib, a-flutter and my heart rate has skyrocketed over 200 beats per minute several times.

I was also on the 120 ER, extended release. How long were you taking the med? And sick sinus can also cause slow HR in itself. Are you symptomatic - light headed, fainting?

At my request, my family physician has agreed to change my medication from daily metoprolol extended release 100 mg to daily diltiazem 120 mg. Can I simply switch without fear of withdrawal symptoms from the metoprolol? His instructions were to stop taking the metoprolol when I start the new diltiazem. I was not aware that I might face withdrawal from metoprolol.

Has anyone tried extended release Topamax or Topiramate? It is called Trokedi XR. I am going to try it because my memory is so bad on Topamax. My neurologist said it might be better with Trokedi XR but it is very expensive. So if you can tell me before I buy it I would appreciate any feedback.

d have a different initial side effect problem I take. One advantage of the one I take, in regular release and twice a day, is low cost.

The former is Beta Blocker (BB) and the latter a Calcium Channel Blocker (CCB). Both are long/extended/slow (whatever) release and are often prescribed for taking once every 24 hours. Well having my doubts about how even the does is over a 24 hour period, I decided to take the BB in the morning and the CCB in the afternoon.

I'm also trying to taper off of it and on the 120mgs now for 25 days. What did you decide to do? Did you quit or taper down more? I don't feel well on this medication and want off of it but heard it's best to taper yet 120 is the lowest extended release dose and I'm not sure if I can switch to the 90mgs regular dose either. I could not be converted with adenosine, but diltiazem was successful. I was sent home the first time with extended-release diltiazem, which did not work and my heart jumped back into tachycardia that last approximately 11 hours before ending up in the ED again. Echocardiogram revealed no abnormalities and cardiologists scheduled me for an ablation the following week. I had the ablation done in May and have not, thank God, had an SVT episode since.

The doctor there did not understand why they changed my meds to diltiazem instead of upping the dose of metaprolol. He put me back on metaprolol (200 extended release pill), told me to stop the diltiazem. My blood pressure this morning was 121/74, heartbeat 71. I'm a bit dizzy at times but overall feel alright. I also have skipped beats according to my blood pressure machine and was told this is quite common with A-fib patients. Thank you for your prompt answer.

Back in February I was put on Diltiazem 120 ER (extended release) and only had to take it once a day. Compared to the Verapamil (also a CCB) that I had to try years ago and I ended up in the ER, the Diltiazem was a dream to take. I had some fatigue, was a bit slow mentally. The hardest part was the nasty headaches I got during the first week or so. They would hit a couple hours after I took the pill then go away. I solved that problem by taking it at bedtime.

I have Diltiazem for that reason. When I'm having a bratty heart day with lots of tachy and chest pain, I use one of those to calm things down. It's not quick like taking an aspirin for a headache but it does help. The only down side is Diltiazem gives me a wicked headache. If I took it every day like I used to, that side effect would wear off in a couple of weeks. Still, I'd rather just take it when I have to and deal with the headache. At least it calms my heart.

I just checked my prescription bottle and see the calcium channel blocker is Diltiazem 120 mg twice a day. This is a generic medication for the drug you mention, I believe. It is normal release, so I take it every 12 hours. I do believe the slow release isn't available in generic.

lately, i cant brush my hair on the left side because it is so sensitive. Am i on the wrong meds? What do you think of the hydro 15mgs extended release verses the 7.5 mg of hydrocodone?

Have you tried the extended release formula for Dilaudid? A new extended release formulation (OROS®) of Hydromorphone is available and I believe it is more afforable than the Fentanyl. I was recently prescribed 100 mg extended release beta blocker to increase my long time used 50 mg. Is it better to take 50 mg every 12 hours rather than 100 mg every 24 hours? If no, should I take 100 mg in morning or before bed?

Doesn't it depend on the type of Diltiazem, whether it's slow release or not? I take the slow release type, once a day. I thought I read the half life is about 16 hours. When I went off of my med, it took 3 days before my chest pains came back. In either case, I'd say (msanxiety) that the med is out of your system by now.

This is a good discussion to have with your doctor. Metformin, the immediate release version and Metformin, the extended release version are the exact same medication. The extended release version just doesn't have to be taken as often as it is released over time. The bid or twice a day schedule with the Metformin you currently take will work as well as the once a day extended release version. That's really the main difference.

The capsules are immediate release and the pills are extended release, right? I can't take hydrocodone also. I don't want to take a more powerful drug like oxycotin or morphine, so I was hoping there was a different chemical compound in the capsules!

Not sure of your exact question here, but Effexor XR is an "extended release" formula, which means a slower, more gradual release over a longer period of time versus a faster acting formula. It depends if your on extended release or not. If your on extended release a few hours either way won't affect anything but regular metformin it might. If you look at your bottle if it says ER or XR after the name then it's extended release.

I am taking methadone 5 mg tablets 3 times per day and Ultram 100 mg in the morning, 50 mg in the afternoon and 100 mg extended release in the evening. The reason for the mixed up dosage on the ultram is I am trying to get off of the extended release due to the cost. The problem I have is that before when I was taking 100 mg Ultram ER twice a day with the methadone as listed above my pain was controled, but since I have tried going down on it I have pain all the time again.
