dilantin

Avatar f tn Regarding your sudden episodes of loss of energy (it sounds like sudden episodes of falling asleep basically), this is unlikely to be related to estrogen or vitamin D. Dilantin toxicity could potentially cause sleepiness, but it wouldn't be episodic, it would more likely be more constant, or at least related to your dilantin dose.
Avatar m tn t believe someone is having the same symptoms I have had for so long. I have been on dilantin for 45 plus years and gave up asking what was wrong with me...My new doctor wants to switch me to keppra and I am a little scared, how did you transition from dilantin to keppra?
Avatar m tn My neurologist just informed me that Osteoporosis and shrinkage of the Cerebellum are very serious side effects for long term users of Dilantin. Does anyone know more about this? I've been taking 500mg of Dilantin for over 30 years since I was a teenager, and now I'm terribly worried. Not one of the neurologists had mentioned anything about this over the years, and now at 46, I've learned that I may have severe osteoporosis.

Avatar n tn My husband was recently diagosed with glioblastoma multiforme brain cancer. The neurosurgeon put him on Dilantin "for life." He isn't even going to check blood levels. My husband has not had any seizures. Does this seem appropriate?
Avatar n tn Hi, Your blood test report shows a slightly low WBC (White Blood Cell) count of 3.2 (Normal for most laboratories is 4.0 to 11.0) Also, the ANC (Absolute Neutrophil Count) is in the lower range at 1.7. Low counts can transiently be seen in absolutely normal people; in others, it may represent diseased states. Do you have any symptoms like weakness, fever, bleeding? If not, then your doctor may simply choose to repeat the test after a couple of weeks.

Avatar f tn Hi, Thank you for your question. In medical terms involuntary muscle contraction called dystonia. This may be affected by nerve impingement, the position of the neck, and is often relieved when you are relaxed. It is difficult to find any specific cause for dystonia, however botox injections may be some help to prevent the contraction from occurring. I would recommend evaluation by a neurologist that may benefit you. I hope you find the information I have provided useful to you.

She was given ativan and dilantin intravenously at this time. A CT scan returned negative. The next morning she was given 150 mg of dilantin and walked like a drunken sailor for the rest of the day (she weighs 20kg). We are waiting for an EEG and, in the meantime she has been prescribed phenobarbitol. This worries me.
