Common Questions and Answers about Dilantin hypersensitivity syndrome

dilantin

Avatar f tn I am pretty sure this is neurological. First, I have had restless legs syndrome since I was little. It has gotten worse as I have gotten older. I am 45 now. I can get it just in my legs or whole body. It isn't pain, just creepy crawly and I take meds. For awhile now, maybe over a period of 10 years, I have noticed that I am super hypersensitive to touch, especially my legs which can cause them to start "acting up".
Avatar m tn My neurologist just informed me that Osteoporosis and shrinkage of the Cerebellum are very serious side effects for long term users of Dilantin. Does anyone know more about this? I've been taking 500mg of Dilantin for over 30 years since I was a teenager, and now I'm terribly worried. Not one of the neurologists had mentioned anything about this over the years, and now at 46, I've learned that I may have severe osteoporosis.
Avatar f tn It was our experience that these patients have a characteristic symptom complex in association with their chronic cough which enables it to be categorised as a single syndrome. We have termed this the ‘‘Cough Hypersensitivity Syndrome.’’We proceeded to test this hypothesis by constructing a questionnaire that elicits the major components of this syndrome and subsequently testing its validity.

779627 tn?1235845890 I have been diagnosed with hypersensitivity pneumonitis. In 2004, I drove the length of US 95 from Maine to North Carolina. In southern Virginia, I stayed with friends in a cabin near the Great Dismal Swamp. Two days later, in Manhattan, we ate a late lunch near the WTC site. I ate my calamari. Both hands started to itch. Soon, both hands were covered with blood blisters. I had developed a fever. I was admitted to the Norwalk, CT hospital with a high fever.
Avatar f tn Dilantin Withdrawal Symptoms The most significant Dilantin withdrawal symptom is a seizure. Suddenly stopping Dilantin can increase your risk of seizures These seizures can be especially severe and very difficult to control. Anxiety, sleeplessness, feeling cold, anger, seeing dead people in sleep, nausea, little appetite, shakineness are usually not due to the withdrawl of dilantin.Reduce your dose gradually to avoid seizures. Avatar n tn I had a thalamic stroke December 7 and am now having pain and numbness and hypersensitivity on the affected side. This seems to shift and change day to day. What is the treatment, if any, and what is the chance this will go away over time?
Avatar m tn I would suggest your friend go back to the free clinic and ask for a 2nd opinion. Dilantin is one of the primary medications given to people with seizures. I cannot diagnose nor can I say that giving this medication is the right or wrong medication to give her. I would only review the information I have provided, and keep going back until they can figure out why this happened. I have provided some package information regarding Dilantin for you to review. Best of luck. Jennifer R RPh www.

Avatar n tn , I still have no definitive diagnosis, though a peripheral hyperexcitability syndrome (neuromyotonia, benign fasciculation syndrome, cramp fasciculation syndrome) is under consideration. But my healthcare provider lacks specialists for these, so I'm stuck at the moment. Neurontin did nothing for me. Neither did the standard tricyclic antidepressants used for various pain disorders. Anticonvulsant meds help to some degree, as do lifestyle changes. Good luck.
1924139 tn?1322798705 From my experience no but people do grow out of it if they are lucky enough our healed from it. I was on Dilantin, Phenobarbital and Lamictal three years ago. My Dr took me off of Dilantin and no more problems. I was on Dilantin over twenty years and i was scared. Let me know what happens because depending on your dosage you would be off of it or almost by now. I wish you the best.

My levels have been around 3.2 and I take the correct dosage my doctor prescribed of 400 MG a day. 200 in the morning and 200 at night. 1808278 tn?1338484942 I watched South Pacific last night and just could not stop crying. These years of taking Dilantin and Vimpat have seriously impacted my marriage, and i just cannot get hub to speak to me in the voice I am accustomed to hearing. He is sooooo impatient! So demanding! So judgmental! We married when I was already a head injured person: if I divorce, I will get half of what we/he has, but that is not the deal I signed on for. I love him and am also very dependent on him.
