Avatar f tn i just started taking dilantin and im 4 weeks late for my peiod and not pregnant
Avatar f tn I had blood workup 2 weeks ago with my GP and everything was fine except cholesterolwas a little high and she put me on zocor. I have a seizure disorder and take 125 mg Dilantin and my doctor took my synthroid up to 175 mg. For the past few weeks I have been jittery, explosive temper, lightheaded, very foggy and started having horrible palpitations and breathlessness..I am really scared at this point and can't seem to get any answers..I am going to schedule an appointment with a endo.
Avatar f tn I know how frustrating that can be because I have gone to the dr for thyroid/adrenal problems and the dr told me, she did not know what else to do. So I can understand completely what you are going through here. I guess an option is to switch over to another med that your tribe will supply to see if that will take care of the problem. When they change meds, they should slowly add in the new med, and then when it has reached a therapeutic level, start discontinuing the old one.
Avatar f tn i started taking dilantin and im late for my period almost 4 weeks.
Avatar n tn She is on Dilantin for seizures and is not doing well. Very tired all the time. Her dilantin level came back at 21 so the doctor just lowered her dose. I'm just wondering if she should be taking the Free T3 test instead. My parents doctor is an older gentlemen and he never checked their thyroid levels until I asked him too. Thank you for any response.
2015036 tn?1332997788 My doctor wanted me to start with the Dilantin first, but then I read that bone-thinning and excess facial hair can be the some of the side effects. (So, I'm going with Tegretol.) I had no idea about the risk of leukemia! Are you okay?
Avatar f tn t witness but the symptoms were that of a seizure according to the Doctor who saw him in the hospital (he had a fall at the time and had superficial facial wounds) The doctor put him on dilantin and they did an EEG. Then he was taken off the dilantin because the EEG didn't show anythin g. A month later in the night he had two grand mal seizures and at that time a full workup was done at the hospital.
3921209 tn?1348605095 I would recommend consulting your Neurologist. Together, you and your Neurologist can weigh the pros and cons of taking Dilantin or possibly another medication.
1252074 tn?1271541709 He's done the thyroid tests they're all normal, and since I'm eating like I should he's worried about it, he's going to wait until after I've seen the neurologist and gets his impression of the MRI, before he schedules any more tests, that way he can figure out which way to go, although he did say something about scheduling a colonoscopy, b/c of my hx of a polyp that was removed back in the '90s that was highly suspicious of small cell carcinoma, He's trying to
739097 tn?1232231492 In plain terms the thyroid hormone is a 'cake' 'baked' in thyroid ['oven'] from iodine and other ingredients If you are have no thyroid [no 'oven'] and receiving replacement, the iodine would not be used without the thyroid, so it is not necessary for iodine supplementation
Avatar f tn Hello Dear, Stopping Dilantin quickly is not recommended. Although Dilantin is not addicting and is not likely to be abused, stopping it too quickly can cause seizures to worsen. Dilantin Withdrawal Symptoms The most significant Dilantin withdrawal symptom is a seizure. Suddenly stopping Dilantin can increase your risk of seizures These seizures can be especially severe and very difficult to control.
Avatar f tn my neuro is taking me off dilantin slowly. i take 400mg daily . my neuro told me dilantin will cause mood swings and cause me to be irritable and was hard on your body after being on them so long. i have started keppra and dropping 1 dilantin a month . i was told my moods will improve and i will start to think more clearly. my neuro told me dilantin does slow your thinking and leaves you in a fog.
Avatar m tn Right now I am actually on Keppra and Topamax and they have both kept me seizure free for over 3+ years and I have no side effects. My memory isn't that great but I'm not sure I can blame the drugs. The two of those as a combo, for me, are wonderful!
Avatar f tn it can also cause nystagmus, signs of cerebellar problems like ataxia. Apart from these it can also cause swollen gums and lips and easy bruising and bleeding. Hope this helps!
Avatar n tn I took 2 old, and 1 new for about a month, then 2 new and 1 old, and am now on 3 new dilantin 100mg. every day. I have been on this for about 2 weeks, and I have not had any problem at all. I do feel kinda nervous about it, though, and never leave home without my medical card in my wallet. (something I never even had to think about with the old dilantin). How about you? Are you on the new capsules? If so, how are you doing?
Avatar n tn 3 and they gave him a loading dose of 500mg. PO of dilantin, and 500mg. IV Dilantin. He is very regimented taking his Dilantin and does not miss doses. And told him to take 400mgs. today. I have a call in to our family Dr. and waiting for a return. We were being seen by a Neurologist, but she abruptly cancelled my husbands January appt. and said she was leaving town for a month, and did not refer us to any other Dr. so we saw the family Dr. who is prescribing.
Avatar n tn Two meta-analyses (an analytic study combining the results of several clinical trials) done by Sirven, et al (2004) and Tremont-Lukats, et al (2008) showed no benefit to giving anti-epileptic drugs in general, and Dilantin in particular, to patients with brain tumors in order to prevent an initial seizure. Your husband may have an option not to take Dilantin since there's no difference in outcome. You can check out the articles yourself: www.mayoclinicproceedings.
1924139 tn?1322798705 From my experience no but people do grow out of it if they are lucky enough our healed from it. I was on Dilantin, Phenobarbital and Lamictal three years ago. My Dr took me off of Dilantin and no more problems. I was on Dilantin over twenty years and i was scared. Let me know what happens because depending on your dosage you would be off of it or almost by now. I wish you the best.
542332 tn?1214592336 My neurosurgeon has me changing from neurontin to dilantin and I think the dilantin may be helping; my pain level has decreased yesterday and today. I will see him again on July 7 and hopefully I will be able to report a good response to the dilantin. If the drugs do not work then he wants to try injection of glycerol. I will post again after my next visit with my neurosurgeon.
458072 tn?1291415186 10am, and i am once again up for the night. i fall asleep at 9, wake up at 1 or 2am, and then just drag myself around through the next day... this must be insanity, and i have just hit the jackpot... been doing this craziness for so many years, have lost track... have chronic insomnia, done every drug thinkable to treat problem, now out of gas... doctors are clueless, i should get their money, for the lack of knowledge or how to treat this problem...
