Two meta-analyses (an analytic study combining the results of several clinical trials) done by Sirven, et al (2004) and Tremont-Lukats, et al (2008) showed no benefit to giving anti-epileptic drugs in general, and Dilantin in particular, to patients with brain tumors in order to prevent an initial seizure. Your husband may have an option not to take Dilantin since there's no difference in outcome.

Last week I started adding 100 mg of tegretol to my other TN meds (pregabalin and gabapentin) at night. I noticed the next day I was exceptionally groggy. I was also having a lot of muscle pain and weakness (very pronounced at times), particularly in my legs. I also developed pretty pronounced dry mouth, and was also having a problem with slurring my words more. I initially was scared that it was an exacerbation but then realized the sx came on the morning after starting the drug.

I m desperately looking for help after seeing tons of neurologist and neuro surgeon about my daily chronic tension headache and tingling burning pain on my left side of body after a seizure last year due to a brain aneurysm. I m since on 400mg of tegretol cr daily and i suspected tegretol is the cause of my suffering. Any personal experience or advise to help ? All scans and test turn out fine.
yes app, keppra works well for both, i have just started this medication as i have been on sodium valporte and tegretol for many years, im slowly coming of the tegretol and going onto keppra, and if everything gos well they will then start to reduce the soduim valporte, i hope this has helped you in some way, if you like i can keep you informed of how things are going.
i am suffering from bilaterial tn for last 34 yrs i take tegretol and neurontin one of each three times a day during the attack of pain, but once the pain goes i stop taking them.
u can try tegretol after consulting your doctor, it is the only medicine that arrests the pain of tn. and when combined with other anti convulsant drugs like, dilantin, or neurontin, it works even better.
Mom told them about some situations that occurred and they put me on regular dilantin, tegretol and 10mg of valium. Sure I still slept alot, but I knew when I was going to sleep. Like the Doctor said you have the weigh the good with the bad. When the meds stops the seizures, she'll come around. I did.

Very itchy now spread all over body. I have recently been changed over from Dilantin to Tegretol for seizures and ever since I have had this rash. Going on 2 months. I have been very irritable and short of breath having to use my nebulizer to compensate. Doctor has been moving and I have not been able to see her. I researched on internet and found that I have some of the symptoms but not all of the symptoms for this drug change.
t as bad, but not effective enough, so my knucklehead doctor added Tegretol. Duh...needless to say, he was fired and I went elsewhere. I went to a comprehensive epilepsy center and they found a medication that works really well for me and I have minimal side-effects. I've been on Topamax for 7 years and it's more effective than any other medication or combination or medications I've been on.
I know it's really a drag and it truly *****. I take a lot of medication...
I am on Tegretol XR and have noticed severe memory impairment. I was on two Anti-depressants, Cymbalta and Lexipro for major depression and fibromyalgia and had to stop both as they lower the seizure threshhold...thus both of those are worse. Have found that riding in a car (surrond movement) and watching tv are still triggers. Boy, my world continues to shrink.
My neurologist just informed me that Osteoporosis and shrinkage of the Cerebellum are very serious side effects for long term users of Dilantin. Does anyone know more about this?
I've been taking 500mg of Dilantin for over 30 years since I was a teenager, and now I'm terribly worried. Not one of the neurologists had mentioned anything about this over the years, and now at 46, I've learned that I may have severe osteoporosis.

I took neutontin for several years until it started to take more and more to acheive the same level of pain relief at which time my Doctor switched me to LYRICA 75mg 3 times a day. Except for the occassional flare up the LYRICA seems to work.
The only antibiotic that has ever been shown to interfere with birth control levels and effectiveness is a medicine called rifampin which is used to treat tuberculosis. Rifampin may also interfere with the birth control patch and vaginal ring so if you are taking it, be sure to use a back-up, non-hormonal (i.e. condom) form of birth control.
When I was on Tegretol, I had many diagnoses for glasses and each year the prescription got worse and my eye sight seemed dull and in fact the whole world seemed dull to my senses. It was like looking at the world with someone elses eyes not my own. While walking around the sidewalks, I sometimes came upon stop signs or red lights telling me not to cross the streets but, in my mind while on Tegretol, I went right ahead and crossed the street anyways. I had no sense of danger what-so-ever.
But you would also need an anti seizure medication possibly like tegretol or dilantin and that should be given in an ER!! Obviously stopping the coke will help as you know. But something else is going on besides withdrawal from the coke-IMO. Please who cares if you were there earlier-demand some kind of treatment! Keep us updated. Im worried for you.
