The doctor is mostly concerned about steroids but I have had an allergic reaction to Tegretol, Clinoril, Dicloxacillin, Penicillian family, Valproic Acid, and Prednesone. My doctor knows all about this in fact he diagnosed the Stevens-Johnson when no one else realized why I was so sick.
Right now they are trying Naproxen for spinal and sacariliac problem. Constipation being a concern.(Lost a third of colon with the Stevens-Johnson).
The doctors and nurses there dismissed Stevens Johnson Syndrome almost immediatly. A few hours later the doctor indicated his opionion that it was herpes. Swabs and blood work are in process.
My daughter is devastated and embarrassed.
Is it possible to contract herpes via another avenue than sexual exposure, notably for a child this young.

You don't mention a fever which is usually present and the spots are typically more blister like than red spots. It could be reaction to the new cream and your skin trying to adjust.

After a few days on Bactrim, her mouth broke out in sores and her throat and lips swelled, and the doctor correctly diagnosed it as Stevens Johnson Syndrome, and immediately stopped the Bactrim and hospitalized her. The sores did not spread externally beyond her mouth, however while in the hospital she experienced black diarrhea, and continued to have some diarrhea and vomiting after they released her a few days later.
I disagree because of 4) (culture produced nothing) and because my lips are different than under cold sores
My PCP thinks this may be Stevens-Johnson syndrome. I know SJS can be due to an allergy or an HSV outbreak (any other reasons?). My PCP has not spoken definitively about the cause. He wants me to continue taking Acyclovir.
Am I correct to disagree with my dermatologist?
I still think my penile area is not infected with HSV. Is the negative culture a sufficient test?
It never progressed to Stevens-Johnson syndrome but was pretty severe. Over the years he used alternative antibiotics for ear infections etc. He was tested by an allergist and was found not to be allergic to the medication he was on during that time period. So what caused the EM? Is it likely to happen again. It was very scarey. His eyes swelled shut and he had these "bullseyes" popping up all over his body.
Oh, I made a misleading statement about cause of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome which I don't really know how my fingers and brain collided when I type with just 2 fingers. I did not mean it's ONLY caused by drug reaction, although it seems to be the "popular" cause with the Syndrome. It can also be caused by infections. It can also spread to the whole body except for the scalp (Come to think of it, I've never seen horrible skin reactions touch the scalp that I can remember.
If the use of Advil to infants is bad and may cause Stevens-Johnson disease, why is it on the market? I can't believe the profits from it's sale would outweigh the legal ramifications and losing such a reputable brand name such as Advil.
I have used Advil periodically for a teething tolder...wow, it's in the garbage as I type.
I had an allergic reaction to alleve that caused a few rashes on my penis.. This was an abnormal allergic reaction to this medication, as my dermatologist said I had this reaction was a mild case of Stevens Johnson syndrom (he's only seen this specific reaction a few times in his career).. I had canker soars in my mouth, rash on my butt and most important a few rashes on my penis... Every thing else has healed completely except the rashes on my penis..
Treatment includes anti histaminic and glucocorticoids against prescription. Other causes needed to be ruled out are drug reaction, Stevens-Johnson syndrome etc. If drug allergy is suspected you need to discontinue the drug and report to your doctor immediately. I suggest you to consult a skin specialist. Take care and regards.

Also various immunologic conditions. Conceivably you have Stevens Johnson syndrome, a kind of potentially serrious skin rash that can also cause genital area ulcers. (Some cases of SJ syndrome are triggered by HSV infections, but that's a separate issue.) And still other possibilities beyond those; I'm not in a position to speculate further.
If you have not seen a dermatologist, that would be a reasonable step.
