Common Questions and Answers about Digoxin toxicity level

Avatar f tn I have been through Digitalis and Digoxin toxicity. The classic sign of toxicity is seeing 'cracked walls'. I too had the upset stomach and vomiting, but it did not take very long for that to happen to me; I never lasted anywhere near 5 weeks. I would question if something else is going on with that. The other symptoms you describe can also happen as a result of the lower HR and BP.
390388 tn?1279636213 He went so far as to call my cardiologist which I am scheduled to see today anyway and now I have to have the blood test to check for toxicity levels of Digoxin. Not a big deal in the end but it makes one wonder sometimes.
Avatar f tn So you reach a therapeutic level your physician intended you to be at, but the drug continues to slowly build beyond that therapeutic level the physician intended you to be at. Digoxin is known for its narrow magrgin between therapeutic and toxic, so I would think your blood should be check frequently to ensure that you're at a safe level.
Avatar n tn s explanation where he states digoxin is used to treat irregular heartbeats. I was on digoxin for a few months following my congested heart failue event. It is my understanding the medication is used to increase contractility of the pumping chambers. My medication for stablizing heart rate is a beta blocker (coreg) and an ACE inhibitor. My research: "Digoxin is contraindicated in patients with ventricular fibrillation.
Avatar f tn I am curious as to why your cardiologist would have you on digoxin. It is used today mostly for atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter. It has been surpassed by beta blockers and/or calcium channel blockers as a first line choice. Did you perhaps experience syncope before your ablation? High ventricular rate leads to insufficient diastolic filling time. Digoxin slows down the conduction in the AV node and increases its refractory period, and it can reduce the ventricular rate.
Avatar f tn The benadryl might, as it can, be causing you worse tachycardia? Diagnosed by tilt table with P.O.T.S. in 2004, I suspect I have that form of P.O.T.S. (hyperadrenergic) due to various abnormal catecholamine type numbers in a number of lab tests. Medicines that were tried and discontinued for either side effects or not helping- lopressor, florinef, midodrine, and verapamil. Currently, I am not being treated by any physician for my P.O.T.S..
Avatar n tn I went to my cardiologist, she increased my digoxin from .25 to .375 and told me that my potassium level was on the lower end of normal to eat a banana or drink a glass of OJ daily. I had asked her if she thought it was some sort of panic attack (I have no prior panic attacks) with really no response other than lets monitor for the next 3 months. Well it has been 3 weeks now and I have woken up at least 2 times a week w/ the same problem.
Avatar f tn I received a letter in the mail from the pharmaceutical company stating they accidentally put a double dose of the medication digoxin I was taking since my surgery because of an irregular heartbeat. I feel that this is the reason I now need these valves replaced but all the doctors feel differently. I would like to know if anyone has had 3 valves replaced at one time? I had rheumatic fever when I was young and that's why I needed the valves replaced the first time.
Avatar n tn I took Digoxin for a number of years in reponse to an atrial fibrillation event. My new physician did not feel I needed to be on it any longer. What are the side effects of discontinuing this medication? I have been off it for several months and some odd changes in my body.
Avatar f tn My nurse practitioner ordered another Dilantin level check when I had another spell at their offices. My blood level was 17 at that time and I had taken 200 mg that morning. At my third appointment my neurologist put me on the name brand Dilantin and reduced the dosage to 400 mg. I am finally starting to feel better by degrees. My questions: 1. Could I have become toxic on the generic Dilantin even though I was within range? 2.
Avatar n tn High B6 level has been found in my friend's bloodstream. It is not coming down even after severe dietary restrictions. Literature indicates possible B6 source could be intestinal bacteria. She is discovering many others have a high B6 level that doesn't correlate with diet or supplements. She's suffering from all the classic signs of hypervitaminosis relative to B6 toxicity. Is there any research into this you can point us to?
Avatar m tn I am having all of the symptoms related to B6 toxicity. I do not take vitamin supplements and have a healthy diet. What can cause me to have such a high b6 level if I am not taking supplements? My doctor asked me to give him a month to figure it out but I am in pain and want some answers.
Avatar m tn The *one* exception to this consistency is her one medication, Digoxin, which she takes every *second* day at 6pm. I have brought this up numerous times with her doctors and they seem to not be all that interested. Now despite the fact that her episodes start before her Digoxin dose, and don't end immediately afterward I still cannot fathom how it could not be somehow related... some threshold of one medication crossing with another that at a certain level is triggering.
Avatar n tn I have seen green halos before due to digoxin toxicity....You don't happen to be on that drug are you? I remember it was awful....Regardless, if you keep seeing green, please see someone about it.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your comment on Vitamin B6 toxicity. I'm wondering if a long term B6 blood level of 90 (with 2 - 21.1 being normal) could cause sensory neuropathy? Thank you.
Avatar f tn Reading up on B6 toxicity it certainly explain alot of my symptoms (especially the neuropathy, which I had nerve conduction test for about a month ago and came up normal!). My question is, is my level considered a b6 toxicity? Has anyone had similiar levels and recovered? Is it a matter of just stopping the supplements or can I do anything else to reduce the level in my body? How long does it normally take?
Avatar m tn i make blood tests for everything every 4 weeks, toxicity with a level of 11ng/ml is impossible since i am close to undetactable with 5000ui daily dose plus 10000ui by 15min sun per day i hope that blood test or the supplements were the failure since is quite unusual not to reach minimum normal level by 3 months toxicity has been reached by 40000ui or 4 millions don't remember exactly per day for 6 months there are no other documented cases of toxicity at lower doses 10000 is perfectly sa
Avatar f tn However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes. There are so many newer drugs now that are far more effective. My basic understanding of Digoxin is that it works on the heart's electrical system and decreases the heart rate, but increases each stroke volume.
