Avatar n tn s explanation where he states digoxin is used to treat irregular heartbeats. I was on digoxin for a few months following my congested heart failue event. It is my understanding the medication is used to increase contractility of the pumping chambers. My medication for stablizing heart rate is a beta blocker (coreg) and an ACE inhibitor. My research: "Digoxin is contraindicated in patients with ventricular fibrillation.
Avatar f tn Yes severe stress, electrolyte imbalance and other causes can produce QT prolongation especially on a background of drug induced or congenital QT abnormalities. If you persist to have prolongation after stopping the medicines, you might need further workup, but not get too worried. Hope that this information helps and hope that you will get better soon.
Avatar n tn Both Celexa and Effexor are drugs known to cause QT prolongation. QT prolongation can lead to ventricular arrhythmias causing fainting, seizure-like activity and sudden cardiac death. Hypothyroidism is also known to cause QT prolongation. I would probably seek a second opinion on this and get an ECG done to make sure that you don't have a prolonged QT interval.
Avatar f tn I would also check your EKG to see what the QRS duration is -- often when people have mobitz type I, the QRS is also widened, which would “stretch out” the QT interval -- a prolonged QT in this setting would not be considered a true QT prolongation.
1561081 tn?1351038313 a) do the drugs cause prolongation of the QT interval even in people without LQTS; b) Acquired LQTS is from taking meds that have caused it.... and then you're stuck with it; c) then some people can take these meds and never have any issues at all..
Avatar n tn Hello, Last sunday my 12 year old daughter stood up quickly from the couch and fainted without warning. This had never happened before. She came to almost immediately and said she felt fine. Just prior to fainting she had been sleeping for about 12 hours and also had had nothing to eat or drink for close to 14 hours. When we took her to the ER they found that her QT was 459. The next day the EKG was repeated and was 441.
Avatar n tn Erythromycin and Cipro are both on the QT drug list that can cause prolongation of the QT interval on an ECG and can cause the arrhythmia Torsades de pointe. This is usually worse for patients with Long QT Syndrome or for people taking anti arrhythmic drugs or other drugs also on the QT Drug list. Check it out at www.****.org.
Avatar f tn Some individuals with MVP are often predisposed to electrocardiographic abnormalities of ventricular repolarization, which requires annual cardiologic evaluation. Its not uncommon for healthy subjects to have a QT interval above the limit. MVP is associated with PVC's and mild QT prolongation and is not uncommon (about 5% of the population). Don't stop taking your medication, and consult with your doctor regarding MVP and the concomitant long QT interval...
789911 tn?1368636783 This is the drug I was prescribed for nausea during treatment. Thank goodness I am not having continuing problems with nausea. Something to look into to be aware! WASHINGTON -- A drug used to treat nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy may trigger dangerous and possibly lethal changes in heart rhythms, the FDA warned Thursday.
250701 tn?1320974765 Caution is warranted and clinical monitoring is recommended when co-administered with telaprevir. QT interval prolongation and Torsade de Pointes have been reported with clarithromycin and erythromycin. QT interval prolongation has been reported with telithromycin. http://pi.vrtx.com/files/uspi_telaprevir.
Avatar f tn It has been known that anti-phsycotic drugs especially risperidone have been known to lengthen the q t interval and cause sudden death also with people with a family history of sudden death( which our sister died of unexplained death(cot death) age 4 months) can heighten the risks of qt prolongation. If this is the wrong forum could someone please tell me where go to next or who can help me with my query.... i'm not looking for an answer but to a possibility.
Avatar f tn Hi, for the past two months or so I've been suffering with PVCS, I seem to get about 100 or more a day and they absolutely terrify me, I know when I worry I make them worse but I can't take my mind of them when they happen! I was diagnosed with long qt about 2 years ago I currently take metoprolol 50mg twice a day.. I have freaked my self right out tonight because I've read that if a PVC occurs during the qt prolongation it can cause cardiac arrest!
Avatar m tn Diagnosing LQTS in a patient with a borderline QTc (440 ms to 460 ms) is difficult and further testing is usually needed to determine whether the patient has QT prolongation and congenital LQTS. Factors that can increase the probability of having LQTS include resting ECG findings (specially QTc ≥480 ms), treadmill exercise test findings, history of recovered sudden death, syncope (passing out) with or without exercise, family history of LQTS or sudden death.
Avatar f tn Treatment with Methadone can cause arrhythmias, bigeminal rhythms, extrasystoles, QT interval prolongation, T-wave inversion and ventricular tachycardias. So, please follow up with your doctor and have an EKG done, so that he can check to see if there are any new rhythm abnormalities as compared to your previous recordings. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn I can not explain why the doctors changed the report with a QTc of 449 msec and then when the next day was 459 msec as I have not seen the EKGs, but it may be related to the value given by the automatic report of the EKG machine (that should not be used to diagnose QT prolongation) and the measurement done by the doctor.
1124887 tn?1313754891 However, others have suggested the upper limit of normal be set at 450 or even 460. Zoloft is known to prolong the QT interval. However, I would not consider prolongation of the QT interval to 388 ms to be of any clinical significance and would tell one of my patients to not have any anxiety about that change. In regards to QT dispersion. the QT interval varies from lead to lead. The QT interval can vary by up to 65 msec in normal people between leads.
Avatar n tn Xopenex is beta-2 adrenergic agonist and Pulmicort is corticosteroid, although they are often combined in clinical practice, the concomitant use of beta-2 adrenergic agonists and corticosteroids may result in additive hypokalemic effects. Since beta-2 agonists can sometimes cause QT interval prolongation, the development of hypokalemia may potentiate the risk of ventricular arrhythmias including torsade de pointes. However, clinical data are limited, and the potential significance is unknown.
4451049 tn?1387153437 Cardiovascular side effects have rarely included arrhythmias (including ventricular tachycardia), prolongation of the QT interval, torsades de pointes, palpitations, hypotension, and chest pain in postmarketing experience. A causal relationship has not been established.
Avatar f tn Should I avoid such medicines that cause prolongation of QT? I should take a one time pill of Diflucan for tongue trush. Is it dangerous?
Avatar n tn Yes, a well known side effect of the majority of SSRI''s is that they can prolong the QT interval. This does not mean that they will and "prolonging" the QT interval is not the same thing as having a "prolonged QT interval".
996946 tn?1503249112 I do have prolonged QT and Diastolic Dysfunction. I did cancel the stress echo but called and got the appt back for tomorrow at her office. I have weaned down to 200 mg a day on the flecainide. I'm scared of it bringing on a-fib...which I have not had in 2 months...but I guess the Dr knows what she's doing. If I don't show back up on MH by Wed. we'll all know why.....
Avatar n tn It was the EP dr who read the ekg while I was in his office. He requested that I wear a holter monitor for 24 hours but haven't gotten results back yet. I am assuming no news is good news. Today, I went to my cardio's office for my weekly ekg and QT / QTc intervals was within normal limits. Can QT / QTc intervals be prolonged one time and normal the next time? I have had three prolonged intervals in the past 6 months but also several normal ones.
Avatar f tn The concurrent use of class IA or class III antiarrhythmic agents with other medications that can prolong the QT interval should preferably be avoided unless benefits are anticipated to outweigh the risks (i.e. you won't find many doctors that will prescribe 2 antiarrhythmic agents together). Caution and clinical monitoring are recommended if these agents are prescribed together, especially to patients with underlying risk factors.
Avatar f tn Since I told the cardiolgist I was there for a murmur instead of the qt and he never actually saw the ecg with the long qt, could it have been missed? Is there another possible reason for a qt to be long once?
1900997 tn?1321659956 Hi all, I currently take Citalopram (40mg a day) which of course is notorious for causing prolonged QTc intervals. But is it possible to develop this condition after you've already been taking the drug for many years? I started taking citalopram in 2003 when I was 34 and it was great - no side-effects whatsoever. One year later, the dose was increased to 40 mg - i.e. I've been taking 40 mg a day for ten years.
