I went to my cardiologist, she increased my digoxin from .25 to .375 and told me that my potassium level was on the lower end of normal to eat a banana or drink a glass of OJ daily. I had asked her if she thought it was some sort of panic attack (I have no prior panic attacks) with really no response other than lets monitor for the next 3 months. Well it has been 3 weeks now and I have woken up at least 2 times a week w/ the same problem.

The *one* exception to this consistency is her one medication, Digoxin, which she takes every *second* day at 6pm. I have brought this up numerous times with her doctors and they seem to not be all that interested. Now despite the fact that her episodes start before her Digoxin dose, and don't end immediately afterward I still cannot fathom how it could not be somehow related... some threshold of one medication crossing with another that at a certain level is triggering.
However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes. There are so many newer drugs now that are far more effective. My basic understanding of Digoxin is that it works on the heart's electrical system and decreases the heart rate, but increases each stroke volume.
I also do not know anything specific about Digoxin, but understand it is, or acts similarly to, a beta blocker. If that is the case, it likely lowers you BP which could cause both dizziness and fatigue.
It has been my experience with BB, that it takes months to adjust. I take Metoprolol to lower my HR which is driven by AFib. It helps, and in the beginning gave me a case of too low BP, but that has mostly gone away... my BP is now near normal, again.

My Son was diagnosied (provisional diagnosis) of Viral Myocarditis when he was 2 weeks old and he was in ICU for 2 weeks (in Dec 2005) . When his condition became stabe he was discharged and was on medication - Carnitine, Lasix & Digoxin.
When he was 1 year old, echo revealed improved EF of 45-50% and Doctor stopped Lasix.

i hev a question concerning digoxin....wat is its effect in the body. I mean its pharmacokinetic effects. i am having a hard time searching the net for it...
(no previous heart problems) Doctor prescribed Digoxin 1.25 MCG per day, and Plavix , to be taken in addition to 81 MG aspirin, (which I have been taking daily for years).

The pharmacist had stated that Diamox is a level 2 derivative of Sulfa and that the chance of an allergic reaction is there but small. My big concern is that I was diagnosed with a Sulfa allergy as a child when a Sulfa Based Opthalmic Ointment was used to treat an eye infection and I broke out in hives after using the drug. My daughter used Sulfa Antibiotics to treat a UTI and over the course of a week her face swelled up.
I am wondering if you are uneasy about taking digoxin. If so, I would ask you cardio if you can get by with just the TOPROL XL. Digoxin, xanax, toprol xl, and lisinoprol seems like a lot of stuff to be taking.
I am a runner and only take TOPROL XL 12.5mg. This knocks out my extra beats and really slows my heart down. A little seems to go a long way for me.
I am taking Digoxin for tachycardia--my cardiologist says that while there aren't good studies available for cardiac meds while pregnant Digoxin is believed to be safe. It is not a betablocker, however the dr felt the digoxin would be safer than a betablocker while preggo. Also the changes in your blood volume while pregnant may correct the tachycardia.
I'm 57 years old male with permanent AFIB and High Blood since 2002. I am taking Propranolol, Digoxin, Warfarin, Zestril/hctz, and Crestor. I've seen a cardiologist in 2010. He tried a cardioaversion it worked for a few days and went back. He seems to think it was my sleep apnea that caused it to go back. I went on a BI-PAP machine since then in July 2010. Nothing is really getting any better. I get weak,light-headed and foggy at times. How should I proceed with my treatment?
I'm 76 and have had 2 cardio versions. My cardio just took me off digoxin and started me on propafenone which is really making me sick. Do you ever adjust to it? I'm taking 225 mg twice a day.
