Common Questions and Answers about Digoxin in wpw

Avatar n tn It was brought under control with digoxin and propranolol, but when they realized it was WPW, they took her off the digoxin. She has had a couple of episodes since we left the hospital, but we were able to stop them with an ice bag on the face. Has anyone else dealt with WPW in an infant? Got any observations or suggestions?
Avatar n tn Hi, I also got wpw. I had my His bundle ablation done in 1985. I'm still having an anterograde accessory pathway so it makes me a non pacemaker dependent. Were you going under open heart surgery or ablation? Were your wpw fixed after that? In 2005, I felt irregular heart beats and my chest was vibrating. He diagnosed is A-Fib / A-Tach. my cardiologist said that he's expecting my A-Fib will come. Did he expect that to you? I also got SSS ( developed in 1994) but pacer covers it.
Avatar n tn SVT is a fairly common arrhythmia that we see in children. I can’t tell from the information that I have whether your daughter’s SVT was easily terminated with medication, or not, nor do I know if she has a structurally normal heart or what her ECG looks like. Also, I don’t know how easy it was to keep her out of her SVT.
624571 tn?1326923969 Hi, I was given Atenolol at the beginning. My cardio said ADD this Tambocor (Flecainide) in. I was crying and refuse to take it. Then he wrote Digoxin and Flecainide. I told him I'll get vomit with Digoxin. Then he put Verapamil and Flecainide. I was spinning to sleep every night. I took the verapamil off by myself. Just the Flecainide by itself was fine. After 2 months, my heart beats very irregular. Big thumb here and there. Looks like restart every few minutes.
4356842 tn?1353312209 I'm a 23 year old, female that has been dealing with SVT for about 3 years now. Been taking digoxin since being diagnosed. I am pretty sure I have had svt all my life, I do recall having attacks when I was younger, but three years ago is when it go bad and more frequent. My cardio told me at first that he things surgery is a last resort for me. I am tired of dealing with the episodes. I feel lucky that their not that bad and that they are tolerable.
Avatar m tn Interestingly, you're the second person in the last few weeks who report using Digoxin. In their case, it was an adult. Digoxin is a very old drug. I used it in 1957 in an attempt to control mine. It didn't work. There are so many new drugs on the market, that I'd seriously question why they chose Digoxin. It can also be toxic, so you have to be careful using it. That's great to hear you've got a conversion process. I'd hold my breath and squeeze down.
Avatar m tn The problem is that digoxin is a contraindication to WPW and he gets while staying at the hospital about 9 tachycardias. Tough to be a parent in this situation. Propranolol (5mgx3) is prescribed. Approximately 1.5 months passed before a new tachycardia recurrence. Again we leave for the ER. Now we are referred to the waiting room! Pounding hard and frustrated at the door we are admitted. ECG is performed and adenosine is administered. Tachycardia stops on the first try.
Avatar f tn Diastolic blood pressure significantly decreased and systolic blood pressure significantly increased during overnight sleep in the digoxin phase .Heart rate decreased in the overnight sleeping phase . Digoxin significantly decreases diastolic blood pressure during overnight sleep in patients with congestive heart failure. This effect is likely to be caused by reduction of sympathetic activity or increase of parasympathetic activity.
Avatar n tn The link below your post goes to a doctor's explanation where he states digoxin is used to treat irregular heartbeats. I was on digoxin for a few months following my congested heart failue event. It is my understanding the medication is used to increase contractility of the pumping chambers. My medication for stablizing heart rate is a beta blocker (coreg) and an ACE inhibitor. My research: "Digoxin is contraindicated in patients with ventricular fibrillation.
Avatar n tn I took Digoxin for a number of years in reponse to an atrial fibrillation event. My new physician did not feel I needed to be on it any longer. What are the side effects of discontinuing this medication? I have been off it for several months and some odd changes in my body.
Avatar f tn A comparison of verapamil, propranolol and digoxin showed equivalent efficacy in a small group of patients. However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes. There are so many newer drugs now that are far more effective.
Avatar f tn Digoxin and Toprol act in different ways and do not induce the same effects. I have atrial fib and was prescribed amioderone.
Avatar n tn my dad was taken off of it because his rate dropped below 60 beats and was causing him to be knocked out for most of the day when he went off of it his symptoms improved now its been 2 weeks and he is showing signs of loss of appitite, sleepiness, slow in speech, stomach acid, nasea Can the digoxin be retintroduced without any big adjustment to his chemistry?
Avatar f tn He converted while in the ER and was told to take it in addition to his beta blocker. They had given him a pretty large dose of it while in the ER and he took 3 doses of the pill...he started feeling pretty bad. He went to his regular cardiologist today and he ran a blood test to check for toxicity and took him off of it. It sounds like a very nasty drug...thanks for the info. I can't understand why he was put on it.
Avatar n tn I have WPW. At my work, they have defibrillators placed around the office in case someone has a heart attack. I worry that a defibrillator would not work on me since I have WPW, and may do significant harm. Is this correct?
705586 tn?1314224932 I was treated back in 2001 with digoxin since I can not tolerate beta blockers because of my low blood pressure. I was on medication for about two years and did not have any more SVT's. My doctor took me off meds and I was SVT clear for about 4 years. This past Thanksgiving I had an SVT but was also sick with a bad gall bladder. It seems that when my stomach gets full of gass/ or is full it can trigger an event.
Avatar f tn I can only go by my experience of ecgs as each time the various drs looked at it they could see the extra pathway. If you get told it is wpw don't worry. I had an ablation the other day and it was a success. Obviously will have a check up in 3 months to make sure it has gone. But what i'm getting at is wpw can be cured. It has a 95% cure rate through the ablation. So just stay calm and remember it may even be just something like etopic beats or nothing to worry about.
Avatar f tn t have any kind of tachacardia that is consistant with WPW, just minor pvcs at times, and at times an unusual beat that can only be felt in the right front of my neck. Any suggestions would be helpful! Thank you!
Avatar f tn i hev a question concerning digoxin....wat is its effect in the body. I mean its pharmacokinetic effects. i am having a hard time searching the net for it...
Avatar n tn AFib in the setting of WPW often goes away after the WPW is fixed. What I would recommend to a patient in my office is to consider an ablation to cure the WPW and possibly even the AFib. There is a chance that you wouldn't need the atenolol or flecainide. It is tough to answer your question because it depends on if your afib is caused by the WPW or if the AFib is independent of the WPW. The only way to know for sure is to ablate the WPW and see if the afib comes back.
Avatar f tn Hi, my first pacemaker put in for my wpw 27 years ago. I'm now 51 yr old. I also had a leaking leak in 1994. I end up with the complete heart block. I'm not the pacemaker dependent. Now I have a 2 leads St Jude pacemaker. I also got 3 leads in my heart. The current pacemaker is number 4. It implanted in 2002. Not the new model require 2 leads. It depends how many leads that your husband needs. Oh, I rather say it depends your husband's EP choose how many leads for him!
353597 tn?1247279830 m terrified now thinking that something is horribally wrong and that I just developed WPW or that I have Long qt because this physician that I saw today said I had wpw from the results of the ekg because of the atria that was misfiring. I'm horribally confused. I had a 12 lead ekg done 6 months ago at the EP doctors office and it was fine... no worries my ep doctor said. NOw all of a sudden this physician (not my ep doctor) is saying I may have wpw...
Avatar n tn Which adds more stress, which in turn accelerates the WPW, which in turn causes an anxiety attack. After talking to my cardiologist, he said, that I need to deal with my anxiety. As I am not a candidate for ablation. He said that I'm caught in a vicious circle, where my WPW is setting of anxiety attacks, and vice versa. So my question is, What would be the best medication for dealing with this. I have done several years of counselling with little or no result.
Avatar n tn I dont know either. BUT, I have read that WPW becomes more symptomatic in us as we age. Also, very young children may not realize that they have anything unusual going on. Another question I would have once someone actually stated what the average age was is: over what time frame was the average determined? In the past 20-30 years technology has improved to the point that the initial diagnosis is getting easier.
