Avatar n tn I took Digoxin for a number of years in reponse to an atrial fibrillation event. My new physician did not feel I needed to be on it any longer. What are the side effects of discontinuing this medication? I have been off it for several months and some odd changes in my body.
Avatar m tn This damage has left him with a dilated cardiomyopathy, in which the left ventricle is dilated and unable to pump adequately to meet his body’s needs. In some patients who have decreased pump function of the heart, the medications may be all that they need to be able to function normally. However, the damage to the heart is done, so this means that, at a minimum, he will need to be on these medications for life.
Avatar n tn I hope you are taking digitalis glycosides (digoxin) as they play an important role apart from the other therapies in improving the EF. I sincerely hope that helps. Please do keep me posted. Kind regards.
Avatar m tn I know there was a recent recall of Digoxin in the U.S. Check with your doctor about any changes in medications. Is there any chance the pain is because of the ICD? I've heard some people say they have some discomfort from the leads/placement of the device, etc. Does your doctor think it's OK for you to take over the counter pain medication? If so, what does he suggest?
Avatar n tn Is amiodarone as safe a drug as digoxin or linoxin for A-fib as far as long term side affects are concerned?

Avatar m tn Hi, Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle which results to difficulty in pumping blood. Cardiomyopathy can be treated. The type of treatment you'll receive depends on which type of cardiomyopathy you have and how serious it is. There are three main types of cardiomyopathy: dilated, hypertrophic and restrictive. The overall goals of treatment for cardiomyopathy are: to manage your signs and symptoms, prevent your condition from worsening, and reduce your risk of complications.
Avatar n tn Hi, The doctor has rightly prescribed you lisinopril which plays an important role in cardiomyopathy in improving the functioning of the heart. I’ll also suggest the use digoxin for you which tend to improve the ejection fraction of heart and also improve the symptoms of congestive heart failure and it’s especially used for patients who have low blood pressure. Apart from that, I’ll suggest a low intake of salt and water. I hope that helps. Please do keep me posted. Kind Regards.
Avatar m tn Hi, My daughter has Dilated Cardiomyopathy. She was detected with this condition, when she was 9 months old. Avatar n tn SVT is a fairly common arrhythmia that we see in children. I can’t tell from the information that I have whether your daughter’s SVT was easily terminated with medication, or not, nor do I know if she has a structurally normal heart or what her ECG looks like. Also, I don’t know how easy it was to keep her out of her SVT.
Avatar f tn Are second opinions needed or is there a protocol that is followed and if so what physician/treatment center in the country has the most success with management for cardiomyopathy? Avatar m tn Though the doctor from India advised to give the Digoxin (0.02mg BID) to her, we stopped it as per the advise of the doctor from Oman.We gave her digoxin for approx 15 days. Now for the past 4 months she is not under any medication. As per endocrinologist, since TSH and Free T4 are under normal range, no need for any medication. As per them they will consider medication only if there is a variation in Free T4 or TSH from normal range.

Avatar n tn Hi, the basic cause for the diminished ejection fraction needs to be treated for the ejection fraction to improve. In your case the cardiomyopathy. Ejection fraction can be improved by lifestyle changes, medications and procedures, such as the insertion of an implantable defibrillator (ICD) is indicated, with an EF of 25-30%.
Avatar m tn Mine has increased from just 2o% to past 30% in a matter of 2 years . You may try out EPLERENONE(inspra), of course in consultation with your cardiologist. regards..
Avatar f tn Heart transplant is an option but is considered when there’re persistent symptoms and the patient needs recurrent admission into the hospital for the same. Initially, all the medications like digoxin, ace inhibitors, diuretics should be tried in the maximum dose before thinking of other options like heart transplant. You should also ensure that your fluid & salt intake is to the minimum. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn Seems to be responding well to meds from what we can see. Any thoughts? We are scared to death. He is only 42. They called in a infectious disease specialist who is interested in the fact that my kids had strep about 6 weeks ago. One cardio told us no reason it can't be reversed because he is in such good health otherwise, they tellme they are shocked how stable and how great he looks. Please any info much appreciated.
Avatar f tn Diastolic blood pressure significantly decreased and systolic blood pressure significantly increased during overnight sleep in the digoxin phase .Heart rate decreased in the overnight sleeping phase . Digoxin significantly decreases diastolic blood pressure during overnight sleep in patients with congestive heart failure. This effect is likely to be caused by reduction of sympathetic activity or increase of parasympathetic activity.
Avatar n tn The link below your post goes to a doctor's explanation where he states digoxin is used to treat irregular heartbeats. I was on digoxin for a few months following my congested heart failue event. It is my understanding the medication is used to increase contractility of the pumping chambers. My medication for stablizing heart rate is a beta blocker (coreg) and an ACE inhibitor. My research: "Digoxin is contraindicated in patients with ventricular fibrillation.
Avatar f tn s are coming from the left chamber and they are leary of ablating on the left due to the mass at mitral valve) and the addition of digoxin to her other three heart meds, her ef is at 42% and at this point not in heart failure. the addition of digoxin has lowered the amount of svt and that is what seems to be helping. There is still the looming question of what is causing the pac's and what to do about it...
