Common Questions and Answers about Digoxin hr

Avatar f tn s, my doc said Digoxin and Toprol do the same thing, I chose the Digoxin. Does anyone take the Digoxin for these conditions and it works? Which do you think is better?
Avatar f tn I've been taking dig for about 5 weeks now to decrease my HR to help control PVCs/PACs. Over the last 2 weeks I've noticed that I am increaingly tired and am having nausea and dizziness. My HR is the same and I do not take any other medications, just a vitamin. The drug info says these can be side effects and i am wondering if these are a forever side effect or just my body getting adjusted. The doc said it take 6 days to be therapeutic so why would i be getting the side effects now?
Avatar n tn is it ok to take furosemide 20mg with diltiaz er120mg,digoxin 0.25mg and metoprolol tart 50mg and a bayer aspirin 325mg ?
Avatar m tn She had no chest pain, only palpitations and general weakness. She took 1 mg digoxin PO and eventually the episode resolved. Had two more similar episodes in the past year: tachy with normal BP brought on by exertion. EKG was normal the next day. She's a dear family member who doesn't live in the states and her doctor didn't believe her when she described the episode.
Avatar n tn When I began taking it, my HR dropped, as did my already low BP. I have a tendency to faint sometimes, and on the BB my tendency increased 10 fold. So, I dropped back to 1/2 pill and voila...my PVC's are manageable, my HR is more "alert" and my fainting has stopped. As for the fatigue...that starts to fade after the first two weeks or so. Unfortunately, a beta blocker's job is to lower your heart rate, BP and generally slow metabolism. The result???
1231791 tn?1289756226 I have numerous heart problems and after a recent bout of a fib my meds were changed. My normal bp is 137/78 hr 65. Right now it's 87/48 hr 58, and i haven't taken my pm digoxin yet. ?? At what pressures do i call for a ride to the ER.
Avatar f tn ive recently had a duel chamber pacemaker installed, which im gr8full4 because no dr untill now has been willing to get it4me (i have sick sinus syndrome, mvp, 3 valves regurgitating, chf & right circumflex artery missing). however since the pacemaker ive been getting a-fib & flutters with my hr jumping to120 bpm & my other symptoms (fainting, etc) getting worse.
Avatar f tn I am curious as to why your cardiologist would have you on digoxin. It is used today mostly for atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter. It has been surpassed by beta blockers and/or calcium channel blockers as a first line choice. Did you perhaps experience syncope before your ablation? High ventricular rate leads to insufficient diastolic filling time. Digoxin slows down the conduction in the AV node and increases its refractory period, and it can reduce the ventricular rate.
Avatar n tn During af I got bisoprolol (not good, stopped), Digoxin and Dilmin (not good, stopped). Digoxin and atenolol were left until I got Multaq a week before electric cardioversion. Atenolol has been very good for me to prevent tachycardia for tens of years. Most betablockers are not good for me. Calcium blockers are not good either, eg. Verapamil is forbidden. I don't know Crestor and Cartia. Do you know to what group of medicines they belong? Now I have been without af over nine months.
Avatar n tn have they started you on any medications?? i ask this because my daughter had 749 episodes of svt (on 48 hr holter) at the time of ablation. her ablation was unsuccessful due the fact all episodes are coming from the left atrium and they were not able to ablate on the left due to a mass. she began treatment with digoxin, and the number of of svt are down to 166. she is feeling much better due to the digoxin.
378273 tn?1262097621 Hi, i was on a beta blocker for about 6 weeks and its true with most people they will keep your hr lower and even at times my hr went lower than needed but in my case the beta blocker dident work very good and my hr would go up to around 100 to 102 now iv been on cartizem for about 3 weeks and my hr stays fairly good around 75 to 88 but from what i know and read here most peoples hr is controlled pretty well with the beta blockers.
Avatar n tn I took Digoxin for a number of years in reponse to an atrial fibrillation event. My new physician did not feel I needed to be on it any longer. What are the side effects of discontinuing this medication? I have been off it for several months and some odd changes in my body.
Avatar n tn s explanation where he states digoxin is used to treat irregular heartbeats. I was on digoxin for a few months following my congested heart failue event. It is my understanding the medication is used to increase contractility of the pumping chambers. My medication for stablizing heart rate is a beta blocker (coreg) and an ACE inhibitor. My research: "Digoxin is contraindicated in patients with ventricular fibrillation.
Avatar f tn So when I got up I put on my chest strap exercise monitor, and the HR was in the high 90s. Sitting here typing, at rest, the HR is 100. Something seems to have gone wrong here, but I'll set back and watch before looking for help. The heart sounds to still be in sinus rhythm." I think I will take an "extra" dose of Toprol to see if that brings the HR back down. My hope of getting off of Toprol may have just been dashed.
Avatar n tn I take usual medications beta blockers, ACE-inhibitors, digoxin, asprin-clopidogrel, statin, deuratics. No other symptoms. Was doing reasonably well until recently. I failed to get any answers from my Cardiologist. Can someone on the forum please help? Do not know what this will lead to or any precautions to be taken? Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn s are benign. If more toprol does not work was told we may try calcium blocker or digoxin. Then ablation if necessary. Doc says this could weaken my heart if not treated but did not mention stroke. Is stroke a problem only for the more classic afib type? Any insight appreciated.
Avatar f tn The benadryl might, as it can, be causing you worse tachycardia? Diagnosed by tilt table with P.O.T.S. in 2004, I suspect I have that form of P.O.T.S. (hyperadrenergic) due to various abnormal catecholamine type numbers in a number of lab tests. Medicines that were tried and discontinued for either side effects or not helping- lopressor, florinef, midodrine, and verapamil. Currently, I am not being treated by any physician for my P.O.T.S..
Avatar f tn However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes. There are so many newer drugs now that are far more effective. My basic understanding of Digoxin is that it works on the heart's electrical system and decreases the heart rate, but increases each stroke volume.
391561 tn?1227047215 Ok, I am starting to lose it. I have done the best I can to channel information regarding the deteriation of my health. I have been through quite a bit in the past, but the past few months have seemed surreal. Someone please awaken me and tell me that this has truly been a nightmare. I had always taken care of myself. Ran, weekly workout routine for years (not a builder, just tone). Relatively low cholesterol (170-ish), BP 110/70, HR 60, 6'3, 190 lbs ( at one time body fat under 10%).
Avatar n tn I get intermittent runs of Afib or SVT lasting anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. Digoxin treatment greatly reduced the number of episodes I have, but haven't eliminated them entirely. Being recently married, I wanted to start a family. After talking to my cardiologist and my husband, we decided while trying to get pregnant that I should get off of my medication, Digoxin, and aspirin therapy because it isn't safe for the fetus/baby.
Avatar f tn i hev a question concerning digoxin....wat is its effect in the body. I mean its pharmacokinetic effects. i am having a hard time searching the net for it...
1302576 tn?1273270866 My untreated AFib caused my HR (Ventricle) to run at about 130 at rest. After a couple of years trying to get the HR down below 100 at rest we used beta blockers only, up to 100 mg twice a day of Metoprolol. The best that could do was get my resting HR down to about 80, not bad, but the side effects were troubling. I finally settled on 100 mg once a day and live with a resting HR about 90.
