Avatar n tn I took Digoxin for a number of years in reponse to an atrial fibrillation event. My new physician did not feel I needed to be on it any longer. What are the side effects of discontinuing this medication? I have been off it for several months and some odd changes in my body.
Avatar n tn Hi, The doctor has rightly prescribed you lisinopril which plays an important role in cardiomyopathy in improving the functioning of the heart. I’ll also suggest the use digoxin for you which tend to improve the ejection fraction of heart and also improve the symptoms of congestive heart failure and it’s especially used for patients who have low blood pressure. Apart from that, I’ll suggest a low intake of salt and water. I hope that helps. Please do keep me posted. Kind Regards.
Avatar n tn 3 months following it was up to 46% and my cardiomyopathy is resolving. I am due for another ECHO next week and am hoping for normalcy. I FEEL FANTASTIC, although I truly always did except for that minor "blip" that I felt every once in a while. My question is... Can I completely recover? When I asked my Doctor her answer was "I don't have a crystal ball"... not exactly what i wanted to hear. Oh, I also walk the treadmill 3 x's per week at 3.
Avatar m tn This is a genetic disease of the heart muscle that is probably related to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Medications may help for some time, but it is unclear how long. It will not go away, however, and will likely worsen over time. I can not get into transplantation rates and survival from the US, UK, and India in this venue. This is something about which you need to speak with your cardiologist, and is also likely available on the Internet.
Avatar n tn Is amiodarone as safe a drug as digoxin or linoxin for A-fib as far as long term side affects are concerned?
Avatar m tn Thanks for your reply, i am shocked that digoxin has been recalled in the USA, i must speak with the cardio Doc about this. I asked the Doc about my ICD being the problem but he dismissed it. Also the pain killer drug that i am taking is Oral morph- a morphine derivative. But i do not want to become dependent on it, this is why i want the problem solved. Also being overweight will this affect my breathing i.e. shortness of breath and affect my exercise tolerance?
Avatar m tn Although, there was no deficiency with that vitamin, the doctors suggested us to continue cartinine vitamin supplements for her as there are not much side effects. Currently she is on enapril, lasix, digoxin. Her EF when we had checked last month was 25%. Please let us know what are the procedures available here to find out(or rule out) the causes for dilated cardiomyopathy. Also, please let us know if there are any research institutes who are pursuing stem cells therapy to this problem.
Avatar n tn Hi, the basic cause for the diminished ejection fraction needs to be treated for the ejection fraction to improve. In your case the cardiomyopathy. Ejection fraction can be improved by lifestyle changes, medications and procedures, such as the insertion of an implantable defibrillator (ICD) is indicated, with an EF of 25-30%.

304450 tn?1192686333 What is the underlying cause for the low EF. Digoxin can increase contractions and sometimes used if there is heart muscle damage. If the heart is enlarged causing low EF, then afterload can be reduced with medication such as coreg and vessel dilation, etc.
Avatar n tn Valent80,Digoxin,Cardivas.However,when a followup was done in May'08,her EF had fallen to 15%.Still the doctor advised her to take the above medications with additions of Nucarnet and CQforte and a good diet. She talked to us on 21/08/07 night and was totally fine but the next morning she did not wake up.from June'07,she did not complain of swelling of feets and did not have cough.
Avatar n tn t really consider it (or anti-arrythmics) an option until I developed PVC-induced cardiomyopathy. Prior to that I had PVCs for at least 20 years. Great ejection fraction!!
Avatar m tn to manage your signs and symptoms, prevent your condition from worsening, and reduce your risk of complications. Treatment varies by which of the major types of cardiomyopathy you have. This includes medications, surgically implanted devices or, in severe cases, a heart transplant. Take care and keep us posted.

Avatar m tn Though the doctor from India advised to give the Digoxin (0.02mg BID) to her, we stopped it as per the advise of the doctor from Oman.We gave her digoxin for approx 15 days. Now for the past 4 months she is not under any medication. As per endocrinologist, since TSH and Free T4 are under normal range, no need for any medication. As per them they will consider medication only if there is a variation in Free T4 or TSH from normal range.

Avatar m tn The ejection fraction is a useful measure of left ventricular performance. The normal range is 63-77% for males and 55-75% for females. It reflects the pumping capacity of the heart. Due to this the heart is not able to pump adequate blood to different organs in the body. In this process the kidneys too receive inadequate blood and to compensate for this start retaining sodium. When the sodium content in the blood increases it causes fluid to seep out and cause edema.

Avatar f tn There are many forms of an enlarged heart, but this most common is Dilated cardiomyopathy . Dilated cardiomyopathy is not reversible but treated to prevent and cure the underlying cause of the cardiomyopathy. Once treated properly the condition improves greatly but the enlargement will not shrink back to normal size.
Avatar n tn s explanation where he states digoxin is used to treat irregular heartbeats. I was on digoxin for a few months following my congested heart failue event. It is my understanding the medication is used to increase contractility of the pumping chambers. My medication for stablizing heart rate is a beta blocker (coreg) and an ACE inhibitor. My research: "Digoxin is contraindicated in patients with ventricular fibrillation.
4703993 tn?1379768388 My electrophysiologist is having problems finding the right medication to treat my POTS and IST. I am currently on Midodrene for my blood pressure. For my heart we have tried Atenolol 12.5 (really small dose, but even with 10mg of Midodrene 3x a day my blood pressure would drop too low and the side effects were unbearable) .. so he concluded that I have a sensitivity to beta blockers.
