s heartbeat is 220. They are monitoring her with a high-risk specialist and a pediatric cardiologist. Over the last 3 weeks, the heartbeat has remained high, but stable. How dangerous is this? What are the odds of it damaging the baby's heart and/or the baby not making it? They have talked about Digoxin if the heartbeat goes up to 260. What would that mean for the mother's health?
My little 2 week old child was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome after presenting with SVT at 275 bpm. It was brought under control with digoxin and propranolol, but when they realized it was WPW, they took her off the digoxin. She has had a couple of episodes since we left the hospital, but we were able to stop them with an ice bag on the face.
Has anyone else dealt with WPW in an infant? Got any observations or suggestions?
he has been on the max dose of digoxin for the last 8 or 9 months with little effect. his doctor has suggested doing a catheter ablation on him, given his wieght of over 15 kilos. the other consideration is the number of times he has been in the e.r and p.i.c.u and the heart rate of 250 bpm and higher when in svt. should we consider rfa at this time?

My Son was diagnosied (provisional diagnosis) of Viral Myocarditis when he was 2 weeks old and he was in ICU for 2 weeks (in Dec 2005) . When his condition became stabe he was discharged and was on medication - Carnitine, Lasix & Digoxin.
When he was 1 year old, echo revealed improved EF of 45-50% and Doctor stopped Lasix.
My daughter will be 4 weeks old this week, she had SVT in utero and I took digoxin while pregnant and as soon as she was born she was placed on it. We went to the cardiologist yesterday and they did an echo and told us that she has pulmonary artery stenosis, (not sever) but definately audible....she was also born with a very short perineum...my question is this....is that somesort of syndrom or condition that could be playing the part in the combination of these problems for her?...

However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes. There are so many newer drugs now that are far more effective. My basic understanding of Digoxin is that it works on the heart's electrical system and decreases the heart rate, but increases each stroke volume.

Though the doctor from India advised to give the Digoxin (0.02mg BID) to her, we stopped it as per the advise of the doctor from Oman.We gave her digoxin for approx 15 days. Now for the past 4 months she is not under any medication.
As per endocrinologist, since TSH and Free T4 are under normal range, no need for any medication. As per them they will consider medication only if there is a variation in Free T4 or TSH from normal range.

I am wondering if you are uneasy about taking digoxin. If so, I would ask you cardio if you can get by with just the TOPROL XL. Digoxin, xanax, toprol xl, and lisinoprol seems like a lot of stuff to be taking.
I am a runner and only take TOPROL XL 12.5mg. This knocks out my extra beats and really slows my heart down. A little seems to go a long way for me.
I am taking Digoxin for tachycardia--my cardiologist says that while there aren't good studies available for cardiac meds while pregnant Digoxin is believed to be safe. It is not a betablocker, however the dr felt the digoxin would be safer than a betablocker while preggo. Also the changes in your blood volume while pregnant may correct the tachycardia.
i would not have known that my daughter had cardiomyopathy had she had not gone to see a nurse at school for a little bit of a cold... her pulse was very low... went for a routine visit with her pediatric cardiologist a week or so later (she was 19 at the time and was born with an anureysmal bulge at mitral-aortic junction) echo showed ef of 32% and she was admitted to hosp that day for management over the weekend.
I'm 76 and have had 2 cardio versions. My cardio just took me off digoxin and started me on propafenone which is really making me sick. Do you ever adjust to it? I'm taking 225 mg twice a day.
