Avatar m tn Hi, Well, your ejection fraction is definitely low and the only method to ensure it remains the same or actually increases is by using drugs like ace inhibitors, digoxin etc. One also needs to ensure that the salt & fluid consumption is within limits as that also tend to aggravate the CHF. One has to ensure that the blood pressure, heart rate & lipids are kept under control. Please do consult your cardiologist also.I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn ive recently had a duel chamber pacemaker installed, which im gr8full4 because no dr untill now has been willing to get it4me (i have sick sinus syndrome, mvp, 3 valves regurgitating, chf & right circumflex artery missing). however since the pacemaker ive been getting a-fib & flutters with my hr jumping to120 bpm & my other symptoms (fainting, etc) getting worse.
Avatar n tn Later we found out that he died from respiratory failure, pulmonary edema, end stage chf all due to severe metabolic acidosis shock and hypoperfusion. None of this explains what happened to me. They were asking about all of his medicine and he was on the digitek and had to take some of his medicine back up to the pharmacy with like 10 pills left. I am very lost in what happened with him and would just like some closure on why he detriated so quickly.
304450 tn?1192686333 What is the underlying cause for the low EF. Digoxin can increase contractions and sometimes used if there is heart muscle damage. If the heart is enlarged causing low EF, then afterload can be reduced with medication such as coreg and vessel dilation, etc.
Avatar n tn Q1) A few months ago I took him to a specialist who took him off some other medications previously prescribed by our GP (local doctor). The specialist put him on Digoxin. He said it was better for his condition. However the patient recently had another appointment where his blood pressure was high and so another specialist has now added Doxazosin. (You don't always get to see the same specialist at appointments). The patient is also on Furosemide, Warfarin, Simvastatin and Ramipril.
Avatar f tn I'm 76 years old was diagnosed with CHF in February of 2009. I am being treated by a good cardiologist. My ejection rate is 34% and I hope increasing all the time. It was 20% in February at my initial diagnosis. I'm taking carvedilol, lisinopril, digoxin, medication for my cholesterol and diabetes 2 and also aspirin and cod liver oil . I would like to continue with my exercise program and don't know if it's allowed. It's not hard, just walking.
Avatar m tn I had my echo last week. I’m very interested to see if there’s evidence of CHF or Pulmonary hypertension. I ‘m yet to hear from my consultant but he implied that the next step would be to put me on ambulatory O2. He said the respiratory nurses will deal with that & that I was to see him in 6 months for a review appointment. I’m a bit worried that my doctors will put me on ambulatory oxygen to relieve the symptoms without trying to resolve the underlying condition.
Avatar n tn I am 49 years old and was admitted to the hospital in August 2008 with CHF, Cardiomyopathy and an EF of 20%. I went to my GP complaining of occasional missed heart beats... was given an EKG and he noticed a LBBB - onto the cardiologist who performed a nuclear stress test which I failed miserably and was admitted immediately into the hospital. I had NO OTHER SYMPTOMS. First diagnosis was a virus had attacked my heart. Upon further evaluation...
Avatar f tn Hi, As per the symptoms described by you, the chances of her suffering from CHF are quite high. The standard treatment of CHF is to off-load the heart. This can be done in 2 ways. One, by decreasing the fluid overload which we call the preload and that’s done by the use of Lasix. Lasix ensures that the extra fluid in the circulation is passed in urine so that the work load of the heart is less.
Avatar m tn I was recently diagnosed with congestive heart failure after a brief stay in the hospital (admitted from the ER with chest pains). I was given several tests, including an echocardiogram and a nuclear stress test.
Avatar n tn hello doctor,my nephew louai 20 days old has ASD type secondum 4mm restrective and VSD membranous (beneath aortic valve) large 6 mm non restrective ,debit pulm/debit systemis= 1,3 doctor gave him captopril and digoxin until his next appointment for echodoppler (i think ), pulmonary artery dilated and heart enlarged but no pulmonary hypertension does he need surgery?
Avatar f tn She is currently on Lasix, Spironolactone, Digoxin for her heart. Right now her symptoms as far as breathing, sweating etc.. are very well controlled by medications, though she's still struggling to gain weight. She had an NG feeding tube inserted due to failure to thrive, and even with the tube & 27-cal formula she only gained 20 grams in the last week. I'm wondering if we are wise to wait that long?
Avatar f tn My baby has been seeing cardiologist since 2 weeks old and was found in chf at 3 mo old and ftt admitted for ngt started on Lasix had already been on dig. My baby is SLOWLY gaining weight and the vsd did get a little bit smaller at 6 mo appt but continues to cause difficulty gaining weight. Was taken off dig and Lasix and has been tolerating- no more sweating or tachypnea. Recent appt at 8 mo old did not show a change from last visit.
Avatar m tn Can I in some way improve that and am I more susceptible to chf because of it. I take 40mg lasix once daily, is that enough?
Avatar f tn Scheduled another cardio-vert for this Wed Mar 4, and will start on Tikosyn and be monitored in hospital for 2-3 days. Also said I would need to be on Digoxin and would fax that Rx in.... he "forgot".....I called the service Sat.& Dr. in surgery his PA said he would call back in 2 hours.... but I didn't hear from him. Today I learned he called it in, but didn't notify me, the pharmacy did. The P.A. said A-Fib was a "nuisance" not dangerous.....
Avatar n tn Hello I have a question, I have been diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy, Atrial Fib (AF), Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)and an Enlarged Heart back in 1998. at that time my (EF) Ejection fraction was well over 60%. I went to my Doctor the other day and found out that my (EF) is at 30 - 40% from a EKG/Echo cardiogram report that dated back to 07/19/2005 now three years have gone by and now I'm worried.
Avatar n tn dog, but should be split in half with 25mg. in the morning and 25mg. at night. I have a dog in CHF for a year now and I am basing this answer on his dosage. I can also adjust his dose to every 8hrs. if I feel he is unusually congested. However, the milograms stay the same. Hope this helps, and please keep us updated....
Avatar f tn Our daughter has a moderate VSD, small ASD, is in moderate congestive heart failure. She was admitted to the hospital on Monday with failure to thrive. While there they checked her blood pressure which was 109/72, and the nurse said she thought that was a bit high. We didn't see the cardiologist. Is that reading high for her age (9.5 weeks)? Or would that be considered normal for a baby with her condition?
Avatar f tn Our daughter, who was born with a VSD and PFO, is now having some issues with cyanosis in her extremities. Her VSD is now down to 4 mm, and her CHF is well controlled by meds. Her PFO we were told was down to a pinhole. I know that some mottling/cyanosis, can be normal in newborns due to immature circulatory system, however, hers seems to be severe. Yesterday her extremities stayed purple for almost the whole day. Both hands and feet, were DARK purple.
Avatar f tn I get tired so easily, too. Just walking from my car to a building can be exhausting with someone with CHF. I take Lisinopril, Multaq, and Digoxin. I don't know how I got this Congestive Heart Failure. The doctor said it is caused by a weak heart muscle that can no longer pump enough oxygen to get rid of excess fluid in someone's body. I guess I wore out my heart. I am 61 years old and I have done a lot of things to wear out my heart muscle.
Avatar n tn I took Digoxin for a number of years in reponse to an atrial fibrillation event. My new physician did not feel I needed to be on it any longer. What are the side effects of discontinuing this medication? I have been off it for several months and some odd changes in my body.
Avatar n tn s explanation where he states digoxin is used to treat irregular heartbeats. I was on digoxin for a few months following my congested heart failue event. It is my understanding the medication is used to increase contractility of the pumping chambers. My medication for stablizing heart rate is a beta blocker (coreg) and an ACE inhibitor. My research: "Digoxin is contraindicated in patients with ventricular fibrillation.
Avatar n tn sotalol 320 mg twice/day Mexiletine 200mg 3/day Niaspan 1000MG 1/day, coreg 12.5 mg 2/day. digoxin 01.25mcg 1/day, spironolactone 25mg 1/day, warfarin 3mg 1/day zocor 40mg 1/day lisinopril 10mg 1/day. My question is what i sould do, go for a heart transplant or keep things the way they are.
Avatar n tn Helps the heart to contract more vigorously and effectively, and helps to reduce symptoms. •Angiotensin II receptor blockers: Similar to ACE inhibitors, these medications reduce the stress on the heart muscle and may benefit patients with diabetes and heart disease. The medication apparently protects the kidneys from the diabetes-related complications.
