Avatar f tn I am taking Digoxin for tachycardia--my cardiologist says that while there aren't good studies available for cardiac meds while pregnant Digoxin is believed to be safe. It is not a betablocker, however the dr felt the digoxin would be safer than a betablocker while preggo. Also the changes in your blood volume while pregnant may correct the tachycardia.

Avatar f tn My daughter-in-law who is 23 weeks pregnant was told that the baby's heartbeat is 220. They are monitoring her with a high-risk specialist and a pediatric cardiologist. Over the last 3 weeks, the heartbeat has remained high, but stable. How dangerous is this? What are the odds of it damaging the baby's heart and/or the baby not making it? They have talked about Digoxin if the heartbeat goes up to 260. What would that mean for the mother's health?
Avatar f tn I am curious as to why your cardiologist would have you on digoxin. It is used today mostly for atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter. It has been surpassed by beta blockers and/or calcium channel blockers as a first line choice. Did you perhaps experience syncope before your ablation? High ventricular rate leads to insufficient diastolic filling time. Digoxin slows down the conduction in the AV node and increases its refractory period, and it can reduce the ventricular rate.
Avatar n tn The abnormals are mitral valve leaflets thickened, aortic vavlular sclerosis, diastolic transmitral e/a ratio decreased suggesting diastolic relaxation impairment, mild mr and mild tr present I am 39 with a history of tachycardia. I am currently taking digoxin 250mcg twice a day. Even with that my heart rate is still in the high 90's resting. I have low blood pressure, Digoxin has been the only medicine that hasn't dropped my blood pressure lower.

Avatar f tn If you have taken any of these drugs, do you remember if you took them before or after you developed cardiac symptoms. Avatar m tn People inhabiting regions where ouabain can be found frequently use the substance as a poison that, when applied to arrow heads or the tips of spears, causes cardiac arrest in animals. The poison can enter the bloodstream through small cuts, so even an arrow that merely grazes an animal can deposit enough poison to cause death. The chemical in ouabain works by increasing the amount of sodium that is drawn into the cellular membrane.

Avatar n tn s explanation where he states digoxin is used to treat irregular heartbeats. I was on digoxin for a few months following my congested heart failue event. It is my understanding the medication is used to increase contractility of the pumping chambers. My medication for stablizing heart rate is a beta blocker (coreg) and an ACE inhibitor. My research: "Digoxin is contraindicated in patients with ventricular fibrillation.
Avatar f tn You seem to have a true allergy to sulfa, and reactions to Diamox are a definite possibility. The cardiac drug Digoxin has been reported to lower the cerebrospinal pressure as well and has been beneficial for patients with your disease. Another option if the nerve shows progressive damage is to have a surgery called optic nerve sheath fenestration to protect the nerve from raised intracranial pressure.

Avatar f tn The PVCs now come if I lie on my left side or bend forward for any length of time. After EKGs showed transient cardiac ischemia, T wave abnormalities and the arrhythmias, I underwent stress testing. The only notable information that came from that was a minor MVP. My last stress echo showed a narrowing in one of my vessels that was not detected before. I was given a left heart cath and diagnosed with the bridge in August, 2008. I was put on isosorbide DN.
